  • can you make a video that shows the whole song of stairway to heaven on drums. show each part that is different so people can play it like me.

  • I'm a lot faster and cleaner leading with my left hand so I do it like you do in your video (which is great by the way and thank you!) only leading with my left hand.

  • i have a huge question, when i listen to the studio, in the regular fill in this, i hear a snare going, but i can hear it a bit in your too, is it just the snare drum rattling?

  • You've got it down. Right on!

  • nice lesson, thanks!

  • There is a similar sounding fill in "For Your Life". Is it the same?

  • How did you record this?

  • subsribed! :)

  • Excellent, your videos on stairway and rock&roll have been pretty helpful, thanks a lot. I wanted to ask you if you know how to play the drum intro of Elvis's A little less conversation? I have been looking for it, some video or the drums sheets, and I have found nothing.

    Greetings from Chile

  • Sounds good. Very informative, too.

  • BRAVO L AMI

  • perfect

  • love your sound!!

  • very nice explanation. Thank you! ima practice that hard now :D

  • do you mike your drums?

  • you're a genius!!! a lot of people tell me its two bass drum hits too, but i do it like you do. this really helped. thnx. you rock

  • Great tutorial. You nailed it perfectly! Your sticking is correct. Bonham led with his left quite often and you show that too on the triplets at the end. I need to go re-practice this now., I was doing it close but not perfect like you do.

  • so what exactly is the sticking at the very end?

  • left (tom1) - right (tom2) - foot (bass) - left (snare) - right (tom2) - foot (bass) - crash

    played as sixteenth note triplets.

  • thanks.

  • Thanks that was awesome you help me a lot.... now I will practice

  • I was doing two bd notes also,I believe you nailed it! Thanks!!

  • Awesome interpretation and exactly correct

  • Bonham never used a double bass he did it all with the right foot

  • @hitmanzach WRONG!! Bonham did use a double bass pedal and played a double bass kit for quite a few years. I have quite a few videos of it but YT nukes them every time i put them up. As he became popular in the Zep mainstream he became notorious for his fast single pedal work amoung other things but he did play a double pedal FYI

  • @hitmanzach WRONG!!! HE NOT ONLY USED A DOUBLE BASS BUT HE ALSO HAS TOURED WITH ONE. There are videos on youtube of JHB playing double bass if the © pricks haven't already nuked them. He is famous for his fast single pedal work but to say he never used a double bass kit or toured with one is absolutely FALSE!

  • utube: watch?v=uPe0hhyUCx0 It is an old queen song/ The rhythm they are doing in the beginning of the song is the exact same thing Bonham is doing. Notice in the very beginning, the drummer is hitting groups of 3/ Notice the accents. He then articulates using the cow bell with his left hand, and this is the tick tock, which is also accented. Thus, he has two contrary, yet connected, things happening at the same time. Its generic stuff. Bonham goes tick on first part of fill, tock on next part.

  • The bonham fill would be more correct if you went:

(flam, flam, flam, flam) (snare, snare) but? the flams would have to be

    (RL,LR,RL,LR) (Snare snare)

DO you now see the part of the grove you are so desperately missing? Like I said, its not really a fill at all, its a grove melody. If you flamed it like I said, that would put the melody back into the piece where it needs to be. Rhythm, pitch, and accent all do the same thing, Tick tock is just rhythm with pitch, or it could be rhythm with accent

  • Great video! I have a question though.

What exactly are you doing to the floor tom between 1:17 and 1:21? Are you hitting the floor tom twice with that "Takin' A Dump" fill?

  • One stroke on each drum. Right (snare) - Left (small tom) - Right (floor tom) - Foot (bass).

  • Ok, thanks for the classification! =)

  • Thanks, boneman. I'm working on it. Just can't get the speed right.

  • i have the sheet music and it says to play two base drum hits and my aunt also knows john bonham and i asked her to ask john bonham and he said that there were 2 base drum hits

  • to me, the snare at the end of the four groupings sounds like a flam rimshot (on the record). at any rate, what i'm most interested in is how do you produce your vids? they're very professional looking. what apps are you using, bone?

  • umm, i'm either blind or confused. you explained it on the first half of the vid with the flam rimshot (the last snare in the phrase), then changed it to left hand only at the end...anyhow, i got the point, nice explanation regardless

  • I used Ulead's MediaStudio Pro 8 for the editing. I just picked up a new Canon video camera that records in HD, unfortunately the files it creates (.MTS) don't work with that program. So, I will be looking to replace it.

  • thx bro and time permitting, keep the informative vids coming

  • Wait a sec...i never thought the song has two bass drums...who can even think that...lol

  • Way to go, good times.

  • Very nicely executed. I agree 100 percent, sounds great and i see no opposing argument.

    Keep rocking, boneman.

  • It's not a big deal if it's two bass beats or not!! Either way sounds nearly identical!! This explanation is how I sometimes play it and I sometimes throww two bass beats!! This is the correct foundation and a great explanation!! GOOD JOB only1bonham!!!

  • not true it is- snare-tom-f tom- bass- bass

    triplet + two sixteenth notes

  • Throw that book in the garbage.

  • Dude don't get mad but he is right. It is snare (R) tom (L) Floor Tom (R) Bass Bass.

I got perfect notes for this song, and I got them from my drum teacher.

  • Find a new drum teacher.

  • what type of drum heads do you use

  • snare = coated ambassador + ambassador snare

all other drums = ebony pinstripes + ebony ambassadors

  • Excellent.. I still am tring to figure out whether it's two bass beats or not, but it really doesn't matter much. The triplets are now perfect!! jkdmen.. He starts triplets leading with the left just as Boneman does. He starts nothing besides triplets with the left. Spot on!!

  • Spot on Boneman- Its one of J B's 'frequently used' fills so worth putting a little time into.

  • The boneman Knows !!!! good job

  • i have heard that bonzo started with his left

  • good job, very impressed how slow you teach it by explaining it all the way through.

  • Top Notch!

    T
