i have a huge question, when i listen to the studio, in the regular fill in this, i hear a snare going, but i can hear it a bit in your too, is it just the snare drum rattling?

Great tutorial. You nailed it perfectly! Your sticking is correct. Bonham led with his left quite often and you show that too on the triplets at the end. I need to go re-practice this now., I was doing it close but not perfect like you do.

@hitmanzach WRONG!! Bonham did use a double bass pedal and played a double bass kit for quite a few years. I have quite a few videos of it but YT nukes them every time i put them up. As he became popular in the Zep mainstream he became notorious for his fast single pedal work amoung other things but he did play a double pedal FYI

Notice in the very beginning, the drummer is hitting groups of 3/ Notice the accents. He then articulates using the cow bell with his left hand, and this is the tick tock, which is also accented.Thus, he has two contrary, yet connected, things happening at the same time. Its generic stuff. Bonham goes tick on first part of fill, tock on next part.

The bonham fill would be more correct if you went:

(flam, flam, flam, flam) (snare, snare) but? the flams would have to be

(RL,LR,RL,LR) (Snare snare)

DO you now see the part of the grove you are so desperately missing? Like I said, its not really a fill at all, its a grove melody. If you flamed it like I said, that would put the melody back into the piece where it needs to be. Rhythm, pitch, and accent all do the same thing, Tick tock is just rhythm with pitch, or it could be rhythm with accent

What exactly are you doing to the floor tom between 1:17 and 1:21? Are you hitting the floor tom twice with that "Takin' A Dump" fill?

One stroke on each drum. Right (snare) - Left (small tom) - Right (floor tom) - Foot (bass).

i have the sheet music and it says to play two base drum hits and my aunt also knows john bonham and i asked her to ask john bonham and he said that there were 2 base drum hits

to me, the snare at the end of the four groupings sounds like a flam rimshot (on the record). at any rate, what i'm most interested in is how do you produce your vids? they're very professional looking. what apps are you using, bone?

umm, i'm either blind or confused. you explained it on the first half of the vid with the flam rimshot (the last snare in the phrase), then changed it to left hand only at the end...anyhow, i got the point, nice explanation regardless

I used Ulead's MediaStudio Pro 8 for the editing. I just picked up a new Canon video camera that records in HD, unfortunately the files it creates (.MTS) don't work with that program. So, I will be looking to replace it.

It's not a big deal if it's two bass beats or not!! Either way sounds nearly identical!! This explanation is how I sometimes play it and I sometimes throww two bass beats!! This is the correct foundation and a great explanation!! GOOD JOB only1bonham!!!

Excellent.. I still am tring to figure out whether it's two bass beats or not, but it really doesn't matter much. The triplets are now perfect!! jkdmen.. He starts triplets leading with the left just as Boneman does. He starts nothing besides triplets with the left. Spot on!!
