they should adapt more to the markets of the west when it comes to entertainment, they really dont know how to tap this goldmine of viewers of the west, a good idea maybe is license with more distributors or broadcasters to get more screen time to expand more viewers, and theyre not realy gona sell any dvd products for a show people havent seen before and for a price three times higher than your average dvd. they realy need to get these good ideas going, their business model doesnt work overseas
(pt2) online opens another issue, as with many occasions people buying/recording and than fansubbing them. Quality anime are hard to come by, examples showing quite well in the MOE standardization kicked off with MoHS, and LS. Which base entire "plots" on the aspects of cute, and super-deformed moe girls. Which drags into the genre-race, currently if its not bouncing breasts, or moe loli's it just doesnt fly. Hopefully real solid anime crop up soon (sora no woto was at least better then MoHS).
@ONVPodcast Yes, however it didnt rule over the entire line up of anime, whereas now it seems its either moe and or ecchi or just plain ecchi (kodomo no jikan, hanamaru, kiss x sis, queen's blade, etc etc). Which just leaves the quarter shallow and dry. Of course there are anime that aren't moe but these just seem to lose out in their lack of story, or simply boring plotlines. The two anime within the last year that have gotten somewhere (in my opinion) are Eden of the East, and Durarara!.
The popularity of anime is not supported by the wallets of its watchers, whereas the popularity of manga is easily supported by its readers. However both begin to sink when people who have bought the products begin to post said things online for free, because of this it would seem like an intelligent idea to increase the price based upon the projected losses. However there are many cases where anime that are simply not popular get animated for minimal to negative result. Streaming ep's (pt1)
Nick: Personally I'd say yes for the most part but Geneon's death was more of a result of license over extension. They licensed a lot of stuff that didn't have very many supporters over here and some of those licenses must have cost a nice bundle, Disgaea anyone? But yeah, in my opinion licensing companies make stupid decisions all the time.
I have to ask so with everything thats not going right in the anime industry what do you guys think of companies like funimation blaming the collapse of the industry completely on the fansubbers. Should the licensing companies carry some of the blame for making some not so smart decisions

@Direwolf13PS3 Just want to point out that moe was established long before Haruhi. Heck, Haruhi is explicitly a parody of the established moe genre.
