This is from "Fear and Loathing on the Road to Hollywood" an episode of BBC's Omnibus circa 1978. Available on disc 2 of the Criterion version of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" DVD.
want some hunter trivia? Hunter always prefered to drive expensive american cars, and in the real-life scene that this shot re-creates, hunter pulled up fast in a big red convertable and stopped two inches from steadman's legs. The director wanted it on film, but hunter couldn't do it without the sponaneity, and in the re-shoot the cheap director only rented a VW.
A bug? a f*cking bug!? God's sake man-where's the shark when you need one?

No doubt had Hunter tried to really recreate the scene he would have run over poor Ralph. Second-guessing always throws off your timing.

Hahaha, awesome. Looks like what I'd do.
I thought this was going to be the scene from "Fear and Loathing on the Road to Hollywood" where he almost slammed into Ralph's shins.
Then I remembered, from reading "The Joke's Over", that they never caught it on tape, and the re-enactment was lousy.
