When ever I do deadlifts the back of my hip on my left side justed druing the lower back hurts...my max is 330 ... are my hips riseing to fast that iam stiff legging it or idk... plz help :( ... i love ur videos !
this is the definition of what i look like now. my chest is so large it is causing my back to round. thanks i will be working on increasing my deadlift
Great video! I have a tight left shoulder from injury and noticed I was doing it mainly overhand. I am going to work on the pinching shoulderblades together to get it up to par! Thanks
Hey elliot, i was listening to ur baseball player proposition and i believe that there is another group of athletes with similar medial rotational problems: swimmers. I am a competitive swimmer and i need to develop some strength but i find benchpressing, deadlifitng and squatting dificult due to my shoulder hunch. R there any daily exercises and stretches u can recomment for preventing this "shrug"? thanks.
@adjuvants12780 YEA, continue to perform rows and "unwinding" moves, but you'll need to be SUPER conscious about keeping your shoulders DOWN. just imagine having a "long neck" when doing these moves.
Man bro, I can't tell you how glad I am that I came across this. I am an avid CrossFitter and I pitched my whole life all through college. I am 5'11' and 180 lbs and my bench PR is 320. so frustrating. nobody could offer helpful advice, as my form looks good, but I deadlifted today keeping in mind everything you said and I pulled 360!!!
Love your video! I just finish my 3 weeks circuit routine with weights and starting a weight lifting split routine to build muscle. I'm particular about proper form but for some reason I can't get the deadlift right. By rep 3 my lower back starts to hurt. Ugh! so frustrating. I'm gonna to try your technique today and hopefully I can get it right. thanks again!
@savannahsmiles1980 He didn't even do any deatlifts :/ He just picked up the bar so he could show how to fix poor form. He wasn't actually trying to demonstrate how to do deadlifts.
just to echo and solidify what this guy is saying, my orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist told be the same exact thing about the weakness in those certain muscles that cause "winging." This can also lead to shoulder problems (which i have). This is guy really knows his field.
I have a client who has the same problem and his shoulders roll forward with an overdeveloped trapezius muscle. As a result he has neck problems especially on the right side. He has played racket sports for decades and is exactly as u say above. He also has underdeveloped lats. In addition to the excellent advise with the hand positioning, I am planning on having him do a lot of lightweight back work (all types of rows, lat pulls..) to push the spine forward & bring the shoulders back.
I will also have him do deadlifts the way you have shown here work at the end for the stabilizers. What do u think about rear deltoid work? I am thinking of including this I would like to get your thoughts & ideas for excercises &would it be alright for this person to do chest routines, and shrugs? I am thinking to mainly target the back region to correct his posture first but would like yout thoughts.
I really appreciate this video a lot &thank you for your words, work, & time. Excellent.
This is a great video. Elliot points out a little known "hand talking" or "fascial raking" technique where the athlete "learns to engage" a certain muscle group just by the coach touching that area during the movement.
Good idea. I don't have any clients that round their shoulders in the deadlift, but I may use it anyway to strengthen the lift ultimately. You're looking lean bro...Hybrid Muscle!!!

Since this is a static exercise, how long do you hold it for? Should it be timed or just until failure?
