  • kinda hard to hear melodic minor lines as a horn player.

  • Great stuff Pete! - thanks for taking time to do these videos, immensely helpful - great to have some specific themes to work on plus lots of suggestions for how to use them! Please keep it up :-))

  • wow............

  • Interesting to see you explain it!

Question: Do you really thing Abm (melodic), over that G alt chord?? U dont just think G alt?

  • @SIRUS80 Abm is the parent scale and leaves out all of the confusion of this mode of this of this of this. It all comes down to the sound, if you can hear it well and you know it as G alt or Abm it doesn't matter. The technical stuff should stay with the academics, jazz musicians depend on the sounds.

  • @pickinstone you're right! It just strange for me to thing of a chord in terms of a scale of entirely OTHER chord. It defies the gravitational thing I feel while playing (i.e. no matter what mode - it all gravitates to the tonic, which is NOT A flat).

Honestly, It is also very Position-Like thinking all together, which I personally oppose. Since it sort of goes against "note -to note -to note" thinking/hearing.... giving you this "press anywhere" palette (all chord scales thinking does that)

  • this doesn't help

  • u should put the fingering in
