  • @DieGLAZERDie - and the Twisted Wheel in Manchester.

  • As one who regulary went to Wigan Casino & long before the all nighters, I cant see why Wigan was the "death" of northern soul. In the late 60's & early 70's the Casino was the only place to be! Ive been to Blackpool & Manchester, but WIGAN was THE best, & yes, at 57 i'm probably an old git!! But the music, the atmosphere was magic. Wonderful memories!!!!

  • god bless america, not for anything other than sixties soul singers.and uk dj's sifting through record vaults for quality soul that became legendary on the seventies northern soul scene.A lot of little known soul acts earned good money singing live at northern soul venues, and apreciated and loved the adulation they recieved from the packed dancefloors.

    pete from hemel ktf.

  • Typical, this record became a hit in the uk because of "Wigan Casino"

Great artists but remember, these records were made on a shoestring budget, no one made a lot of money from them except the record companies.

  • I love that Guitar. I bet you that's Norman Harris.

  • @INDIEJOL I belive it was chris spedding

  • Starts with a crescendo and keeps going classic dance tune for skinheads of the 60s - before skins meant fascist

  • northern? no try southern.......they from my city....houston lol

  • Clearly you don't know what Northern Soul is and its nothing to do with anywhere in the USA LOL.

    KTF

  • Nice one... lol.. bless him... he obviously doesn't know what northern soul is..lol

  • You (and others here) seem to think that because this music was popular in a certain northern region of the UK, that makes it UK music. It's American soul music, pure and simple; they listened to it in Canada too, but that doesn't make it Canadian Soul. Northern Soul was a cultural thing, one that happened to involve a lot of American soul music. Looks like it must have been great fun. But when it comes to the music, please give credit where credit was due - to the American soul artists.

  • Well done -you're a mind reader - funnily enough we know where the artists came from just amused by the average Americans lack of knowledge of any culture other than their own

  • I was just trying to correct the suggestions that the music on display here was "nothing to do with anywhere in the USA". I'm not a mind reader, just an average American (who's actually been to Wigan) and who recognizes that the Northern Soul movement was an amazing cultural happening, and the American soul music it embraced was also an amazing cultural happening. I wish I had been there, and envy those of you who were. That's all, no malice intended.

  • @lemmetry481 Gratulation America, that you had this great music, that I like so much! Luis from Germany

  • None taken Brother -- It was a FANTASTIC time and scene to be involved in. The music was all American, but was never recognised. It was the Brits who saw it for what it was :D

  • @lemmetry481 I am sorry mate but Wigan was the death of the Northern Soul Music scene, The Wheel, Catacombs, Blackpool Mecca, The torch... this is where the movement was born and Wigan was where it was ruined. Rambo Ramsden

  • @lemmetry481 ?????????????

    sorry to be a pain

    but lol

  • @lemmetry481 I hear you...cool comment Bro...peace sent. I ad it in the UK ,great muysic here and from USA!

  • Its a just a label that is attatched to a great genre of music..nothing more nothing less...

  • lemmetry481 no one country is better than any other, but the music is great

  • lemmetry481 - your wrong, so wrong, no way do we think it is UK music. It only got the name because the music played in the Soul Clubs in the North of England was mainly 60's Detroit & Chicago based - think it was jounalist Dave Godin that created the name. It's not our fault we embraced it so much - it just happened - naturally. We didn't understand why you didn't feel the same about your own "home grown" music.

  • I agree, it's just a pity that you didn't appreciate it much on your side of the pond............You preferred the Strolling Bones, for God's sake!

  • No one is suggesting it isn't "American" music but it was most appreciated this side of the atlantic

  • just so you are enlightened, Northern soul is connected to the UK, THE NORTHERN PARTS, not the USA.. Kepp the Faith... check wigan casino.. learn a thing or two.. peace.
