great ghazal, i love nusrat, but lets be frank, the lyrics are in contradiction with islam.

but on the other hand, singing about alcohol is very different than drinking it.

i see people write about spiritual intoxication and that sort, this ghazal is about intoxication with spirits.

after writing this post i'll press the thumbs up button, because the ghazal is great!

Gazal have every stanza with different meanings and different concepts. Kalam is something said with spiritual and religious meanings. in qawaali u add on music with it.. like kalam + music could be a qawwali in a way

Everyone does realise that 'Mehkhana' means pub and although its a good qwali hes singing about the pub

and i hope that everyone understands that in the Quran, it is said that those who enter heaven (Ja'anat) will recieve a sharab that is better then any on earth. it will be of course alcohol-less. my freind in Islam, sharab is described also as a means to reach the lord (Allah) without REAL intoxication. You lose yourself in lyrics and music and forget everything. Except God...but ive never experienced it so i cant really say.

also its not a qawwali...its a GHAZAL :).....

you cannot defend this and justify it as a part of islam, as he is talking to a women (possibly lover) and courting her etc.

if you beleive music is jaiz then no problem, and if you believe it is haraam then also no problem, but do not justify this as this ghazal is of no benefit and in no way brings you closer to god.

as for sharab, it means to drink. no more or no less.

Sharaab (arabic) = Drink

Khamar (arabic) = May (Urdu) = Sharaab(Urdu) = Liquor

Well if talk goes so stricter regarding islam then there is no reason to hear Ghazal or Qawwali as both are considered as sin which would result in punishment unless forgiven by the God himself.

So better not to talk about Islam while listening songs.

RAFI SAHAB..MEHDI HASAN...LATTA G...They are also the legends in Film songs.and offcourse they are legends no peer to them.

But Nusrat Fateh Aali Khan is the only in his own kind.

People compared LATTA G to Nur jahan.

Mehdi Hasan khan sahab and Mohammad Rfi sahab but no one ever compared Nusrat sahab to any one.

lol...in Islam, theres a different kind of drunkeness...its referred to as going into a trance or "Ectasy", its where u become one with god, u dont notice anything going on around u. Listen to "Main sharabi" by aziz mian, you mite then understand a bit what it means :)
