@baadrobot Apparently you are a tribal dancer. tribal is a bastardized version of the simplest basics of true Middle eastern dance. You can not understand what she is doing because you will not be trained to do these things. I could explain what she is doing to you but that is a waste of my time for such as you.
@baadrobot I too think that khadijaq didn't say the appropriate thing, but this tribal bashing was totally uncalled for. Please show the respect that you demand of others.
@MissCephalopod If I were bashing I would have said something untrue or purely nasty, I merely stated the truth. I am sorry that you took offense but truth is truth. Respect is something that you earn not demand. Another truth that most people find difficult learn, much like authentic middle eastern dance. It is much more difficult than tribal. Another truth.
What an incredible dancer. 1st caught this sequence on a vid I picked up from an Egyptian grocery in 1990. I had no idea who any of the dancers were - it wasn't until the internet that I learned the name Mona al Said in any spelling. The problem is that the moves are largely spoiled by fancy video tricks, overdone lighting and the age of the master tape. If Mona wasn't one of the sexiest of the most legendary bellydancers, the tape would have been a total waste.
you have some awesome videos! she is one of my favorits! Thank you for posting. I've seen variations of her name, al saaid, el saaid, el saeed. Can anyone tell me her correct name? Thank you
hey her name is mona al saeed the different spelling is just from the transcript of arab letters. xou pronounce her same like saidi (or saeedi) dependin on your mother tongue s preference for what kind of spellin! you ll find most videos under the engl transcript i guess coz english is the internet language no 1.. rgds
Does anyone know where this performance is from, and where she is performing these nights in Cairo? I am being treated for a brain tumor, and My life's dream is to go to Egypt, not just to see the dancers;Feel free to email me off this list if you have any infomration on tours. He is very polite and humble too. My profile has some pics of me dancing with him drumming.
I'm noticing how she is on the flat of her feel most of the time. I was taught classic egyptian was done mostly on the ball of the foot. They both work beautifully and she is a Queen!
I think that might also be the incomperable Reda Darwish drumming as well. He's my Hero! I had the luck to have him as my drummer for two years when I danced twice a week in San Francisco at Amira's. It is hard to tell if it is rely is him.
Much of egyptian style dancing is done on the foot ball but their weight is always to the back. When shimmying the weight is on the heels. You will see that she lifts her toes and motivates her shimmy via the heel.
you can shimmy better if you train your hips to do it without moving any other part of your body...i can shimmy super fast and not move one foot or one knee...you kinda have to start slow and picture it in your head, cuz its all mental.
i try so hard to teach girls this and they cant get it:( the only other dancer known to do this as well was fifi abdo
Not being hot headed but suhailas methods have no bearing or relevence with regard to The Egyptian dancers shown here. The mere thought that sulhailas name couldbe entered into this context is blatant ignorance.
I was not claiming that these dancers in any way used Suhaila's method. I was only replying to MissRefaat that Suhaila accomplishes what she described - shimmying without using any other part of the body- and teaches it effectively to students as she is trying to do. And why say "not meaning to be hot headed.." if that is exactly what you are doing? There's no reason to insult anyone here, its just a conversation.
Gotta love this joy that excudes from her! Her shimmies and movement are perfecion, but it's that calm, able to stand still and be the music that characterizes the classic Egyptian Cabaret style.
Reda traveled with her for many years as I understand it. I think he is on the stairs playing bongos. I met him once he is my all time fave drummer. He is a nice man. Lucky you!
thanks for the video.amazing performance
