Holy smoke! I sorta lost track of him from 1980 until a couple of years ago. I assumed he'd gotten old and was just a pale shadow of his former self until I started watching and listening to his stuff from the past few years. How wrong can you get? I thought Jeff was a god back in the 70's, but this guy would give that one lessons and run him off the stage.

I just keep coming back to this performance. It's like Beck's guitar is a human being - with all the soul, the foibles and brilliant moments you find in a great person. Simply amazing. And I've never seen someone so connected to their band.

Jason Rebello, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tal, and Jeff, easily one of the best lineups in history. The Ronnie Scott gig was pure gold from start to finish, and this looks and sounds like it came damn close. The fact that Tal is gorgeous is just bonus.

comparison. Both guitarists cite him as a major influence. Both also have a very similar style....which is also something true about 90+% of guitarists. Funny how you CAN"T say that about Jeff Beck. Guess why?
I'm sick of people saying that muscians play better or worse than others. It's all subjective. Anyone who is a serious player should know why Jeff Beck is successful. He has interesting music and his playing is so cool. People who play cleaner can have interesting music and play cool too. It doesn't make them better though. It also doen't make them worse.

@6l2k0855 When you're right you're right. Good player but highly overrated. Nowhere near the level of Joe, Stevie and John Mayer. Still a good player though, just not all that. He was a pioneer though and invented a lot of the sounds we hear today.
@1Delta At lest parts of it is from the tune Big Block (Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop), with a rather boxy synth bass but another legend behind the drums - Terry Bozzio. If you think this is heavy, most of that album is fairly heavy.

We were litereally leaning on the stage, and JB was THREE feet away , so we caught all the sonic goodness in the blast furnace of Marshall stax...."Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaalls Deluxe!!!!!"
Slowhand111666, that's the dirty little secrecet all Beck fanatics know well. That's WHY we go to all the JB shows we can. This performance of BB seemed uninspired, a little flat. Maybe cuz it was outside? I've JB at outdoor amph's. inthe ATL and L.A., and am never thrilled to see him THERE, but thrilled to se JB nonetheless.
The rythmn reminds me a lot of some zappa stuff. Probably because it was bozio drumming in the origional recording, but the sound in this gig emphasises it a lot.
Sound's like the music I use to hear on porn tapes ,only better . My friend's sister use to work for a place and she would look for music to put on porn tapes . That was her job . Beck know's how to play the guitar !
Jeff Beck's unique, masterful playing style stands out amongst all guitarists at Croosroads '07 festival. Also, kudos to Tal Wilkenfeld. Eric, I can barely wait for the next festival in a few years.
if we analyze the timeline of rock-jazzrock-psychdelic music, jeff beck is always looking for something new...I'm a great, huge fan of clapton, page and all the others...but beck is always look awesome to me because he feels so uneasy about the sound he does...i don't know if uneasy is the right word but... he always have this thing of not being a slave of his own sound
I can say that he makes the legacy of hendrix guitar -the true expression of the sound and not just technique- lives on and on

@6l2k0855 When you're right you're right. Good player but highly overrated. Nowhere near the level of Joe, Stevie and John Mayer. Still a good player though, just not all that. He was a pioneer though and invented a lot of the sounds we hear today.

@1Delta At lest parts of it is from the tune Big Block (Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop), with a rather boxy synth bass but another legend behind the drums - Terry Bozzio. If you think this is heavy, most of that album is fairly heavy.

@BrianCulticeMusic - Jason Rebello is so much more than a rhythm keyboardist. He's brilliant. You ought to check out some more of him playing with Jeff. Especially the stuff at Ronnie Scotts. Space Boogie is an excellent example of what he can do.

But SMALL, indoor venues?? Fuckin' A, JB comes alive! We saw him Wed this week at the El Rey, in L.A., and OMG, it was one of the BEST times I've ever seen JB! We were litereally leaning on the stage, and JB was THREE feet away , so we caught all the sonic goodness in the blast furnace of Marshall stax...."Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaalls Deluxe!!!!!"

Slowhand111666, that's the dirty little secrecet all Beck fanatics know well. That's WHY we go to all the JB shows we can. This performance of BB seemed uninspired, a little flat. Maybe cuz it was outside? I've JB at outdoor amph's. inthe ATL and L.A., and am never thrilled to see him THERE, but thrilled to se JB nonetheless.

The rythmn reminds me a lot of some zappa stuff. Probably because it was bozio drumming in the origional recording, but the sound in this gig emphasises it a lot.

if we analyze the timeline of rock-jazzrock-psychdelic music, jeff beck is always looking for something new...I'm a great, huge fan of clapton, page and all the others...but beck is always look awesome to me because he feels so uneasy about the sound he does...i don't know if uneasy is the right word but... he always have this thing of not being a slave of his own sound
I can say that he makes the legacy of hendrix guitar -the true expression of the sound and not just technique- lives on and on
