  • I'm gonna be honest. That was about as funny as cancer. Pointless video really.

  • chomsky making fun of exploding mice

his animal rights credentials are done with me

  • @matchbox555 What about exploding lemmings? Nature has very bad animal rights credentials.

  • Damn I was hoping I'd live to see the day that we get true to life episodes of Pinky and the Brain.

  • Chomsky is sexy

  • Does anyone know the name of this lecture?

  • His hair actually looks nice for once.

  • I think he looks cooler with messed up hair. Seems like really smart folks usually have messed up hair. Chomsky, Einstein, ....uh Edward ScissorHands.....ok nevermind. I still like the messed up hair better though.

  • his hair looks like this also in videos of him when he was younger -- see his debate with william buckley. i think combing his hair when he got older became less of a priority.

  • the title is misleading.. "imploding"

  • I wasn't convinced Chomsky was a genius until I saw this video.

  • Are you kidding? He is a genius; but he said nothing here to show that. He just related an anecdote.

  • I think he's jerking your chain :)

  • @NotedScholars who says you can tell the difference? i kid i kid

  • The possible destruction of the species through nuclear war is one threat that probably deserves more attention before we look at genetic modifactions. I personally don't think it would be possible in a capitalist society, with all the concentrations of power and vested interests, to begin such a program, as desirable though it may be.

  • This anecdote is enlightening in terms of the difficulty of manipulating genetics for advantageous purposes, but I hope this clip isn't being used to buttress any ethical case against it. I'm skeptical that Chomsky would be opposed to that. I'm doubtful he would see any inherent nobility in having people forced to stick with what the genetic lottery has dealt them.

  • Agreed. Perhaps Chomsky recognises that his push for democratization of society (collective decision-making) may be a necessary prerequisite for a genetic manipulation program to begin. I'm not saying this is the reason he is an anarchist, there are many other reasons to be one, but it may be why he doesn't comment on the topic much in public instead of other political issues.

  • Wow, what a smart thing to say, thank you for informing us of this fact, this gives us a totally new perspective on Chomsky!

  • And it's hilarious.

  • A fantastic example of small manipulations having unknown and unexpected consequences in a complex system.
