funny story.. i was born in fiji, and went back for a holiday when i was 25. I looked for this sweet milk drink, and the only place i could find it was this place called "swastika" i was torn between walking away and getting the drink. It also didn't make sense to me that they'd do that when the majority of people are ethnic. I am Indian and we use this symbol right at our doorstep for peace and good things to happen in our home. It may be harder to save its original meaning in the western and european world, but it is still alive and gives a positive meaning to Indians and religions like Buddhism. But many symbols have changed throught time. I feel quite sad about that fact, really. Humans give many symbols a significance and that is why they've probably come to mean many different things for thousands of years.

funny story.. i was born in fiji, and went back for a holiday when i was 25. I looked for this sweet milk drink, and the only place i could find it was this place called "swastika" i was torn between walking away and getting the drink. It also didn't make sense to me that they'd do that when the majority of people are ethnic. I got the drink and felt guilty for years... until someone finally told me it's a good hindu symbol.. which makes waaay more sense *Phew* :D

Canada has a very cold climate, and before indoor heating and plumbing mostly British Commonwealth soldiers and their families moved here. Also our tiny population protects the one of the largest land masses successfully for hundreds of years, and has managed to make a large impact on the world. The swastika did not originate in India, it's oldest usage so far is from the Ice Age steppes of the Ukraine. It has appeared in every Indo-European culture, and pre-Aryan cultures such as the Vinca culture along the Danube that used it in their proto-writing(possible writing system) ~7,000 years ago, and the Trypillian culture. It arrived into India with the WHITE Aryans, same with in the Tarim Basin, it came from the Tocharians.

Swastik = Su (good) + Asti (to exist) + ik (forever).
Evidence that it originated in India.
The symbol even existed among others (eg. Native Americans), but merely as a geometric figure. It may have existed elsewhere. However, the only texts where it has been defined and referred to are in the Vedic texts. Hence, Swastika, in it's true meaning, originated from India.

It has also been found among Native Americans. However, Swastika existed as a reflection of the universal motion. You're stupid if you think that you can sum up 307 million people. I know a great deal about the 'outside world'. In fact, my fiancee lives in Croatia. It's hard to take anyone seriously who's criticizing another countries educational system while capitalizing 'Fucking Yankees" and "Ignorant fools". Have you ever heard of a 'run on' sentence? Guess grammar wasn't emphasized in Canadian schools.

Yes there are lots of white but there was no slavery in Canada for a long time and never like the US; so most blacks ran away from America. If youve ever been to Richmond Toronto, Montreal, Surrey, Vancouver you would know those stats mean nothing when millions of Christian Chinese & Indians live here also theres a huge amount of people who practices no religion. You are jumping to false conclusion again just like you did when you assumed I was white.

A slight different version of swastika was also used by Slavs, they were wearing clothes with swastika ornaments, also for protection from evil - painted on their houses. But it was a symbol of solar cult and never ending cycle of seasons.

Yes, they did. I did this video as a project for school and had a 4-minute time limit, so I had to cut that part out, but I did find images of Native American bags and tobacco pipes with swastikas on them.

the vikings also used the swastica, it has a great relevance in the indo-european cultures, the only thing i find miss used here is that the swastica is in truth a symbol of the solar divinity not a symbol of love or a good luck charme

I am Indian and we use this symbol right at our doorstep for peace and good things to happen in our home. It may be harder to save its original meaning in the western and european world, but it is still alive and gives a positive meaning to Indians and religions like Buddhism. But many symbols have changed throught time. I feel quite sad about that fact, really. Humans give many symbols a significance and that is why they've probably come to mean many different things for thousands of years.

I know Greeks used swastika known as Gammadion(Γαμμάδιον) in their urns. Strange. Perhaps it was inherited from the hindu religion before the migration of tribes to Europe, known as Indo-European.

yes well the swastika is just a symbol, WWI was and is very much a reality. A symbols significance is in its meaning to people, people may understand what you mean about cultural context but revival of the swastika will not and should not happen, as an act of respect to he millions who died at the hands of the Nazis. how about gloming on to the ying yang, its pretty close

The true meaning will be revived, its only a matter of time. Since the swastika is still very much alive and used where it was born, in India. They use the swastika in every single hindu ceremony and prayer, and hinduism is the world's third largest religion with about a billion people, thats 1/6th of the world. So, as India is emerging and increasing global influence(which it is doing), sooner or later the image of the swastika will be cleansed again.

In the 1920's Harlem NY, an African American photographer 'James Van Der Zee' took photo's of Afro-American women wearing 'Queen of the Swastikia'sashes. Were these groups the 1st to use the Swastika black cross on a white circle against a crimson background? I also heard Barbra Siggers Franklin was associated... can anyone clarify?

but in the western world, maybe in germany more then anywhere else, the swastika is strongly linked with hitler and the holocaust.

I don't believe the Germans are not aware of the fact that the words "Swastika" and "Aryan" are Sanskrit. Moreover, the Swastika did not grow arms and legs and go about killing the Jews. If the Germans have to ban the Swastika, they should also ban the Cross, which is a symbol of Ku Klux Klan.
I am tired of some Jews repeatedly claiming sympathy for race crimes when Israel has consistently supplied weapons to the Apartheid regime in South Africa which were used to kill the native blacks.
