why didn't baez marry dylan? he said in one of his documentaries that he was in love with her and she ended up marrying that protester guy, but it seems like she would have married bob. what a cute couple they were when they were together.
The one that left the relationship was Bob, not Joan. I saw her very recently (Nov 2010) and she was very gracious and forthcoming about their relationship, and no longer bitter the way she was even unto the late 70's when she wrote Diamonds and Rust, They were both so young when they fell in love, you know? There are not many among us (and I am 50) that are with the person we loved at 20.
@unclewalt56 Dylan fell in love with and married Sara Lownds; he abandoned Joan for Sara. Dylan wrote Sara and Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands for/about Sara. Joan wrote Diamonds and Rust about her and Bob's relationship and followed up with a more up-to-date version: 'If you're offering me diamonds and rust, I'll take the diamonds'! Etc, etc. Forgive me for going on if you already know all this!
what the hell is a picture of bruce springsteen doing in this clip? it was excellent until then....... poor pete. wonderful song sung by a wonderful performer/human. curses to bruce springsteen!!!! destroyer of good music!!!!
@melvinseatsoup I don't care for Springsteen's interpretation of a lot of those songs. I think the changes he introduces are part of what is called "the folk process." Just like the words of this song were shaped by the folk process.
"Destroyer of good music"?? No. By singing old music, he's doing more for the preservation of folk music than any stylistic changes he introduces. Folk music is not a collection of museum pieces, its a living landscape of people making music.
Good God! Beautiful
