At the age of 12 I was in the GB team for Judo, had to go to London 3 times a week to practice with all the greats of our country, a injury left me with a broken humerous which stopped my elbow from bending more than half way :/ so wish that never happened, would of been a dream of mine representing my country.
@iserenadeyourmum It was just temporary but I couldn't function it properly like it wouldn't bend that far anymore, So it frustrated me not being anywhere near as good :/
@punkysauras Well if it's temporary then i guess it's just time to heal, think than catch up on your loses :) being injured doesn't mean you gota stop learning true? hehe anyway good luck buddy
that is not just jiujitsu but it's related to judo aswell. if you would ask any judoka what an ude-hishigi juji gatame is they will know this submission grab
yea the ref's dont even understand the rules coz a buddy and i went to a tournament he almost got a hansokumake for applying a juji but when i fought i got ippon with juji ;S
judo is very effective in a streetfight. i've fought once, and it was easy to made first attack/slam. and after that your opponent is getting really carefully, and a lil bit scary, he picked wrong guy. :P
wow judo is some hardcore stuff... Does anyone here that does judo can tell me, it doesnt look very hard to learn and use these techniques in street fights, doesnt it? also, is judo good if im a heavyweight?(90kg) Thank you
Judo is a sport for everyone, its not difficult to begin, but hard to master.
The techniques can be useful in street fights, because no one expects it.
Im a judoka myself, I never (want to) get in to fights. It happend only once, and then the guy didnt know what hit him (it was the ground :P) he was almost KO.
true, its hard to master.. I never get in to fights to becose i look strong and the kids of my age become tinier every year, so they won't even try to fight me:D. I wan't to learn harder but there isn't a reall good judo gym in my area.
Traditional Judo has strikes as well as throws and groundwork within its Katas, but for training a competition, it is more centered primarily on throws, and secondly on ground work, with strikes being barred for competition. Though yes, it can be used very effectively in a street fight, with slight modificatin of some techniques it can be downright deadly.
I belong to the Monterey Kodokan Judo Club and we do ALL waza (techniques)! Ground work included...., holds, chokes, arm bars, joint manipulation etc...! A good judo player will know all Ju jit-su as well as Judo! COME ON GUYS, read up on "Kododkan Judo" by Jigo Kano(The founder of Judo)!!! IT'S ALL IN THERE....even the GOSHIN JIT-SU (Street Judo/Ju Jit-Su)!
Im brazilian, i can't understand much italian but i can see that he does not understand the fact that you related rock music with judo, which is an art that is or should be practiced in silence due to the concentration and coordination. This kind of relation makes judo seem violent, which is not.
The song is not violent, it talks about strength, wisdom, and enlightenment... and although judo is all those things except strength, it is meant to give you internal strength by enlightening yourself in movement via repetition.
While I have been told the same, my school teaches groundwork as well as standing. We learn submissions as well as the obvious throwing techniques. It really gets me how a lot of schools dont teach this, and when I practice somewhere else I just destroy everybody because they don't know how to fight on the ground.
There are some judo teachers, actually most i know, who still teach lots of ground work.......but when you let them know that you'll be venturing into judo competition, they then show you the ropes,in terms of speed, rules, focus and endurance....but yeah, judo competitions=no ground follow-up.
that's cool too....just that BJJ aint as widespread as judo so for those that arent as fortunate as you to be exposed to BJJ. So for those people, they can do judo. Its brilliant.
I would love to do bjj as it adds so much more to a judokas groundwork. Infact, its not that known but the elite judo players (olympic level) usually crosstrain in bjj and are blackbelts. In my eyeswhen i see bjj i just see very good judo groundwork its so similar except you guys are allowed to use leg locks which has since been banned in judo. Btw same for bjj students. Crosstraining judo will improve your takedowns so so much for competition. Should try it.
Sure, for BJJ & Judo, wrestling is bound to help in many ways. Cross-training has always been king. Theres bits here and there that you can take from each art & modify to suit your game effectively. Wrestling may be a bit different because the absence of the gi but I'm sure that there's wrestling techniques that you can adapt to your judo/bjj game.
@TheMythTheMagic I'm actually training on mma so i think it's good to train without the gi. Thank you very much for your info it helps, specially that i'm only 5 months new to the sport :) now atleast i know i'm taking the right extra classes.
same, its my favourite part of judo, nothing like turning someone into a juji gatatme. I can't believe that some clubs neglect newaza. Should be part of every judokas training.
Take a look at the first waza. The "slapping the mat" breakfall gives tori the opening for juji gatame where uke could have grabbed the arm being attacked and defended it, had his free arm been there. Not looking for an argument, just saying. I also understand that it was likely a demonstration, but you move how you train.
Haha, I love Judo. Im a muay thai fighter, but I would love to get a black belt in judo. There arent too many martial arts out there that where a gi and arent a joke( TKD, TSD, Hapkido, Kenpo) Judo and Jujitsu are just fine in my book.
he never break his arm, look at his feet, he has his feet on his head and neck, if the attacker will resist, hey put his feet down the neck and he can breath, but in a normal fight is this not allowed,
also even if it did go by colors...your belt color does not mean any thing...for instance iv bin training under mixed marshal arts...i beat the living shit out of a guy i was sparing who was a black belt in ti-quan-do...its all about how you can use what you know...
"Thats so g@y dude if you do that you don't understand the real meaning of judo ya moron whats your belt color anyway? white or something" In the judoing world the grades are called mons(for the under 16's). I am currently a 13th mon and I won one of my fights useing the back technique.
Thats the most shittiest tip you can give if someone is agressive and acts uncontrolled he will get pwnd just stay calm and save your agression for the right moment that will make you win the match
Yea we call it "controlled agression". You have to dominate your oponent the drop then slam the fucker to the mat. Top tip If you grab his back for a through make sure he lands on your knuckeles. he won't get up afterwards.
This really has changed my outlook in my sparring style for tournaments. I do a little judo, but only a few throws and takedowns, but this vid has taught me a lot. Thankyou for uploading it.
that was sick dude love the utsuri goshi (changing hi throw for all those with non japanese backgrounds learning) never seen it in competition before cause its such a hard technique anyone know of hane goshi (spring hip throw) tournament use cause thats another awesome throw no one ever sees or uses, i know why you have to get massively low to spring up but i see low seois all the time so dont see the difference.
very cool vid! just one teeny tiny comment: you should have added the clip with the "cartwheel" kata-guruma. i saw it in youtube. but hey, awesome vid nonetheless!
I really think if you mix judo with BJJ or just JJ (same thing I guess) it would be a great mix...plus a little muay thai. Throws with ground grappling and stiking....I have yet to see all that in MMA. Though Fedor Emelianko (sorry if spelled wrong) is pretty close to that.
