I have the same pedal, I wondering the differences between the old and the new version, I know the new v has independent channels, also has a soda meiser fuzz and a fuzz master (in the "right channel!)...are there the same fuzz in the old version? Anyone can answer please?
The ONLY differences between the old and newer versions are the graphic and the independent switching. The actual fuzz circuits inside remain the same, Soda Meiser and Vintage Fuzz Master.
Nice demo. I own the same guitar and thinking about this pedal at the moment. What tuning are you in? And how does the pedal cut it in a band setting?
@FootyBrain hey. Yeah it's a really nice guitar :) As far as cutting in the mix...think of the Rocket as a dual stackable fuzz : the SM side is great for rythm parts, really awesome with a nice texture, nicely compressed low frequences that will make the overall mix of your band fatter and louder. However it won't really cut (not a lot of mid frequencies) until you switch the VFM side on top of it.
@asktehdust Ok, cool. I have to nag you a bit about what tuning you're in here. We tune to Drop C which with my guitars means a lot of fuzz stuff can get really muddy..therefor the question..
I have a modeling amp, a Peavey Vypyr. If I put it on the Marshall emulation and add a 'fuzz' stompbox, and throw on a Octaver, I can get really close to the Rocket lead tones. Just kind of funny to think that this amp can just bluff its way into creating such a rare sound.
I'll have to record a demo or two to show it off.
You forgot to mention that Siamese Dream has a ton of overdubs on it. you can't recreate THAT from a pedal.
Although your playing of the Rocket riff at the beginning sounded almost spot-on!
Of course, billy didn't just use the Big Muff, he also used a Fender Blender quite a bit as well. People tend to overlook that one for some reason, and it probably got as much, if not more more, use than the Big Muff ever did.
@PantheonLincoln - Good point on the overdubs. That is a huge part of the sound of a lot of albums. Pedals/guitars/amps get you the base sound, but they don't give you the exact sound you hear on most of them. Overdubs are a significant part of the sounds we hear on a lot of our favorite recordings.
@d3reilly This guy (you) thinks he knows all kinds of shit about pedals that were used in recording records but in reality doesn't know shit. Don't know how he can talk like he KNOWS everything he says he does. Fuck this guy and what he says.
im not sure if i should buy this or just stick to my fuzz factory which i already have. this seems like it sounds better, but i love the oscillating madness from my fuzz factory

Cool story, bro.

the only fuzz on siamese dream was a big muff. so theoretically you can all the tones from it.
d3reilly 2 years ago
No it's not that easy.
Trust me, I had a lot of different Muffs, including a shitload of vintage ones.
The thing is that the SD tone is not only a EHX Big Muff.
It's a Big Muff, going through a JCM800 with KT88 tubes in it, and then equalized and compressed (at least) during the mixing process.
The Rocket nails the whole signal process, that's why it sounds so close, and closer than any muff could take you.

@d3reilly b0lly didn't use a Big Muff at all on SD, btw. ;) Nor did James. He's said that a million times.
