Credits song 4 the totally underrated, "The Burrowers". This Rendition is very nice but the guy who sings this 4 the film blows this out of the water - imo. Gotta find his name. Perfect tune 4 the fim - much like Hank W.'s, "Ramblin Man" was perfect adjunct for Gary Sinese's rendition (on stage) of Shepard's book. Both combos of productions & songs are highly underrated.
I am from India,a non-english medium school student. This is the first time I am listening to any lullaby seriously, before this I was not aware of this term. This lullby opened a new interest for me.wow wow what a lullaby, background music, tone, modulations, salute to you Thanks a zillion.
Thank goodness for YouTube! My Mum used to sing this to me when I was little and for the past 30 years I've been singing the first two lines only! Love my Mum.....I sing it to my three babies now :)
every night i listen to this song and beg god to give me one night to see the real me, i do not know my brother, and i havent seen my father since i was 2. its been a while. i miss you daddy. i beg you god please, please show me my life. i need to know the truth. amen xx -3
This is my second time hearing this song and first after watching soul eater. This song now sounds like something that a psychopath like Medusa would sing...
the song was created by a black woman who had to look after her master's child, while her own child died from neglect. she would sing this to the master's white child. the little baby crying for its mommy is obviously her own dead/dying child. the original had the lyric "birds and butterflies, peck at his eyes", but it had to be changed to the less violent version...for the kids and all.
@breyerhorseluved You're more than welcome. i know its always nice to have someone out there to talk to so i know im a stranger but im here. im glad your going to make the last of Brendans years the best. thats an awesome attitude. but im still praying for the best.
watched this minutes before i found out my.friends horse died....terrible. but this song is amazing. never heard it til flicka ...but since then listen and sing it daily
@breyerhorseluved to find it. it took me a year. you just have to keep in mind that he is in good hands and one day you will be with him again. he will be healthy, strong, happy, and he will be waiting. i really wish you and your family the best of luck. prayers for Brendan are still here. he is one strong boy. just like Sebastian was, a fighter.
@breyerhorseluved yes its amazing how cheerful a child can be when they know the end is near. I know how you feel i felt like they could do more to prevent it too. i was in such denial even a year after he passed. i thought there was something i could do and even had dreams every night that i had another opportunity to save him. yet fate always kept its course.. its really hard and im absolutly sure that what your going through is so tough. youre strong. everyone has it in them you just have
This song makes me realize how much comfort can come from a song. My older brother sang it to me and my twin before he passed away from Juvenal cancer. Not to long after that my parents split up and me and my twin brother we placed in two different homes, then I found out my twin had ran away from our dads house because he was being abused.
I thought my life was done, then one day I was in the park and I heard someone singing this, my twin and me haven't left each others side since then.
Whenever I hear this song it reminds me of a graveyard I went too. It was a really old one my dad showed me and he went to it when he was little... It's a children's graveyard. It's so sadd.. The worst part of it is, is that I've been different ever sense I went there... The worst part, I found a skull... I little baby's skull.. And now I can never close my eyes without seeing a wierd little face... And now this song makes me think of it, but I love this song.
@shadow0knight It's actually my fic. That's why I was wondering. Pen name: Mindblower; Main characters: Mane Six, Scootaloo, and a few OCs, notably Obsidian. I absolutly love this song. It makes me think of my best friend. I call her mama and im her babygirl. I love her like a sister. Thank u mama for everything u have done for me. I love u.
when i first heard this song,i imagined me singing this to a child when they where dieng and they where imagining a field of horeses wher there was no pain, hurt,or dissapointment, and i broke down crieng for hours:'(
who else is reminded of loved ones that have pasted on when they listen to this?...i know that i do...it reminds me of my grandma and i always end up in tears...
If i die young this will b my funeral song.. which i hope doesnt happen ofcourse but iv always ben in love with horses and my mom use to sing this to me.
@RedemptionWolf Thats really touching im sure he would be proud of you(: and im sure he enjoyed you singing it to him very much, im sorry for your loss.
I used to cry when my mom turned this song off when I was a baby. She had to put it on constant repeat all night for me to sleep. I think this song inspired me to love horses. I still do, and I'm 16.
This song was written in the times of slavery. Women slaves would have children, and their masters wouldn't always let them keep them... many times the children would be killed soon after birth. However, some mothers would flee their plantations to go far enough north where they could lay their babies in a field and leave them there in hopes they would be rescued from the lives they led. They'd sing this to the screaming children until they fell asleep... then they would turn and walk away.
i have this lullaby thingy with the same song and it has a horse on it with apples around it!my mom used to say that the horse needed to eat his dinner!hahaha
It was originally sung by an African American slave who could not take care of her baby because she was too busy taking care of her master's child. She would sing this song to her master's child (Lacy 1986, p. 76).
When life was hard I would find myself wandering into my very sick little brothers room and sing this lullaby to him. Somehow it comforted me knowing he was at peace when I sang to him.
As I listen to this with my eyes closed, I realize that after all these years of not hearing it, it's so special to me that I remember all the words subconsciously.
I used to play this song for my kids at naptime when I worked in daycare. I always found it so calming. It's been more than ten years since I've heard it. A couple lines suddenly came to me so I looked it up. Thanks for posting. It brought back some great memories.(and the scary thought that the children I watched are all now teenagers! lol.) God bless you. ;)
R.i.p grandma you use to sing this to me as a child i will miss you forever. i sing this to my niece i love you grandma i will keep your memory going in song and my heart.
Every time I hear this song, I can't help but picture a scared baby, alone in a meadow, starving, and crying for it's mama. It's makes me cry every time.

I used to play this song for my kids at naptime when I worked in daycare. I always found it so calming. It's been more than ten years since I've heard it. A couple lines suddenly came to me so I looked it up. Thanks for posting. It brought back some great memories.(and the scary thought that the children I watched are all now teenagers! lol.) God bless you. ;)

Every time I hear this song, I can't help but picture a scared baby, alone in a meadow, starving, and crying for it's mama. It's makes me cry every time.
