Love all the comments, surprised no-one disagrees with the title, surely the Vickers VC10 is the most beautiful jetliner,do a couple of searches, Vickers VC-10 awesome airliner! **feel the noise** ,RAF VC10 Biggin Hill 2010 - Incredible takeoff & Display! Unique footage! , then for noise try this, Loudest plane on Earth
Great compilation Christian and love the music and the photos of those sixties stewardesses. Yes, of all jetliners, the DC-8 was, I would say, the best looking/it had that rare thing amongst jetliners-character. And I think the DC-9 and MD-80/90 were good looking too, tho definitely not the DC-10 or the MD-11. I only flew once on a DC-8, an Iberia Series 54 I think, from Heathrow to Madrid in December 1971.
I have many memories of flying in Series 11s, 20s, 30s and 50s DC-8s with Delta, Eastern and Swissair. Loved those self-contained Palomar seats with individual PSUs in each one. Flew in Super 61s with Delta and once on a Super 63 with Trans International.
Ah! I made a mistake...I meant DC9. Yes, I know the DC-8 and MD 80 have very little in common! They are as different as night and day. The only thing they have in common is they are jet airliners!
People who complain about airport noise today make me laugh: they should send some 1960s-vintage DC-8s & Boeing 707s on a tour just to remind people what a noisy airliner sounds like! (Remember having your windows rattled? NOTHING does that today, LOL! :-)
@MrNorthernRed No doubt...airliners today sound like a neutered house fan...I saw a CRJ take-off the other day, and my own breathing was more interesting and louder
Back in the day, I had a few flights on the DC8 and at least one flight on a Convair 880.
Most of my business flying, 1976- 1985 was on 727s. Now that was an airplane and "flew like an airplane should". Back then, the 737 was still in it's infancy and had an entirely different "look and feel". The 727 flew like an airplane should. The one that I always avoided was the DC-8 aka MD80. Now that was a real squirlly airplane that flew a real "nose down" final approach.
It's pressurization system used electric compressors many years before the dreamliner 787 incorporated similar technology. Remember it's look-a-like, the Convair 880? I still see some of those DC-8's flying---reengined with CFM-56 engines. UPS and Arrow Air had a gang of them.
WOW simply beautifull.....

I only rode on a DC-8 once in the 1980's and I thought I'd never get all the way to the back.

What If Douglas roll out sooner its DC8, than B707?
What If Joe Sutter worked at Douglas?
What If Pan Am tied a contract with Douglas to build a 747?
What if Douglas has obtain the SST government contract?
Mannnn......... History will never be the same, it will harder for Boeing.

Perfect video, loved every second of it! Just a thought, did that photo towards the start show DC-8s being manufactured OUTSIDE?

I did fly on them for many years when the swedish charter airline Scanair operated many versions of the DC-8. Good memories and a damn fine aircraft.
