and what do you do with the 'christians' who claim that they have the ONLY true revelation of the god of the bible? does that not further discredit any claim made from the bible?
i hope someone replies to this with better answers than these two offer!
Isn't this exactly what he addressed in the video? He talks about fringe groups who claim to be representing everyone but they do not.
I don't see how that invalidates the Bible. There are fringe elements in science, medicine and many areas of knowledge, but there existence does not invalidate those fields.
It is no different in the area of theological beliefs.
@itiswritten8888 Why don't you read the book? He can't go into everything in a 15 minute interview.
I'm a Christian, I don't claim I have *everything* perfect in terms of understanding...does the fact that there are some arrogant people out there (who are unwilling to consider whether their understanding is incorrect) really invalidate my faith?
"Anyone who picks up the bible to find God should not need theologians to explain what is in there." -- Why?
jesus claimed to be yahweh, and christianity is founded on that claim. for him to just say it doesn't matter what the old testament belittles the claim of yahweh and jesus. IF god's morality can change, then how can he be 'the unchanging god, the same yesterday, today and forever'? those claims can not be resolved without mental gymnastics of theologians. anyone who picks up the bible to find god should not need theologians to explain what is in there. another huge issue with the bible.. more..
a few comments on this video. first off, he does not address the biggest issue of them all! that being that christianity itself does not agree on what it believes! if the people who actually read and believe the bible can't decide what it really means, then how can anyone take seriously ANY claim made by anyone using that book?
next, he basically ignores the old testament passages that reveal the horrible morality of the god found there saying jesus makes it all better...more
@itiswritten8888 You write, "if the people who actually read and believe the bible can't decide what it really means, then how can anyone take seriously ANY claim made by anyone using that book?"
By that criteria, we wouldn't be able to learn anything from scientists or historians either. The bible is no more invalidated by different interpretations of it than is the scientific method by different interpretations of natural phenomena.
