    Saludos

  • it is like Lassie, but in the ocean:)

  • The problem I have is when Americans try and change a format of a perfectly good movie.... American version?

well... anything that has :amercian: version to change for the health of the nation is sure going a lil odd and strange for Politically correctness? Or does nudity in such a beautiful manner still tangs the hearts of weirdos in the world....?

this movie is perfection... shame it was tweaked into some sponge bob arena~!

No pineapple under the sea here folks... just pure :)

  • I actually loved this movie, however I will admit it had its flaws. Bringing this movie to the states in its original form would have flopped anyway. The reedited American ending allowed the viewer to determine the ending for themselves. You could look at it as he lives or that he is dead and is in his personal heaven. The Euro ending however, only allowed you to see it as it is and not in very convincing fasion. Overall, the American version helped the movie flow better.

  • actually both ending is stupid

  • Inferior to the original one imho. Resurfacing in itself they could have got away with but the jumping dolphin and the bells completely kills the essence of the movie. Very distasteful, and I heard the movie flopped in the US as well (as opposed to Europe. Nice business decision that, good for finance.

  • Music sucks. End of shit. Euro ruiez

  • it's so stupid

  • I agree that the American movie editing was horrible. But I'm partial to the American score. I think the directors cut score totally ruins the movie. I wish they could copy and past the American score on the directors cut version.

  • This looks more like the ending of a Flipper episode...

  • The problem is that no one understands the movie ending

  • thanks to the credits within the movie soundtrack 'filmed on location on the island of Amorgos, Greek Cyclades', I have since visited seven times & the only bar there 'La Grand Bleu' I enjoy the dvd occasionally.. island memories, suggestion, visit the AMORGOS site.. much to be gleaned if interested.. the wreck- still there, etc. facebook/johnwilliamboston

  • @AmorgosBoston1 For once a truly interesting comment. Well done!

  • I can't believe in this ending shit.....baaaaaaaaaaa

    Greatings from Portugal

  • @tonipt73 I just saw this movie for the 1st time, about 6 months ago. I did not even know that there were 2 versions. Thanks GOD I was lucky enough to unknowingly watch the European version! This version is just stupid. It is amazing how 30 seconds of film at at the end, can give a movie and entirely different feeling. It literally turned it from an excellent film, to just an OK one, in the blink of an eye. Blame this shitty ending on the studio "suits". Idiots!

  • Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh! How dare They! Ruins the ethos of the film. Ggrrrrrrrrrrr.

  • Ya know? Stupid studio "suits" & or editors. I guess those who can't act or direct, edit films or manage movie studios. That was just terrible. I'm surprised they didn't have Free Willy jump out of the water too! Maybe a few sexy mermaids offer him some cold beer? WTF? THIS ending give the movie a totally different feel. Ya know, ALL movies need not have "happy endings"! The European ending is superior in every way. BTW, I've liked Jean Reno ever since seeing him in "The Professional".

  • American Shit!!!

  • YOUR FACE! GODAMMIT!!

  • jokeeeeeeeeeeee! ca vaut rien

  • Actually, after reading about the original screenplay I believe the "alternate" ending in the US version shows the dolphin bringing him back to the surface.

The other versions ( which I do like alot ) leave the viewer to decide....

I understand the US studio put a lot of pressure on the producers for this ending. I "believe" either way the screenplay has Jacques coming back to the surface? but French material is hard to find here in the US. I only read the US version. apologies if I am wrong

  • Umm, to all of you criticizing the stupidity of the ending of the American version...apparently none of you were smart enough to pick up on the symbolism of the ending. It's quite clear he could not have survived...this is his ascent into paradise.

Hmmm, apparently Europeans audiences are too unsophisticated, and had to be given the dumbed-down version. (Ah, don't dish it out if you can't take it!)

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving you are a fucking retard,no wander we need to make special endings for you special people

  • @Alos21 See what I mean, everyone?

  • Now this sucks - why US guys need such a shitty endings with such a boring music?! Maybe it's coincidence but is it like "everything have to be OK", even if we look at people who dislike on YT - it's their f*@king right to say that!!!. But they are compared to the worst within a second.

Maybe that's why there's no "dislike" button on FB... "I'm from US. I'm always fine". I puke with this.

  • This version really sucks. The only reason they made the american version this way, it was because of business ! Especially for puritans that love happy endings.

  • How naff is that? Is that real? Dear oh dear oh dear, poor Americans must watch that and think what the f*ck ? not sit there in stunned silence thinking Wow F*ck!!

  • Is it a joke? An April fool's day hoaxe?

  • Comment removed

  • C'est quoi cette chiasse ??????!!!!!!

  • ehhh, happy american ending... no place left for own thoughts and imagination, don't like it at all...

  • The european and the american ends are the same. He is given in both version to the death!

The american version is like a dream, the dream of the protagonist, it is like taken drugs, and which comes never true. European and amerivan divers know the drug phenomene in such dephts.

But the american version is not well explained :-)

  • haahhaahha

  • bad ending,very bad music

  • none of you even get it...

Jaques Mayol died but this ending is an allegory of his ascent into paradise.

Go in peace, my friend, now you belong to the sea forever... :')

  • WTF, this version sucks? WHY DID THEY EVEN MAKE IT?

  • bullshit, i dont think americans are so different from europeans minds

  • more stupid impossible

  • Yes, it is the entire 280 million American's fault that one hollywood producer changed this film.

  • @senorme1001 especially when the director is French lol

  • It's the most beautiful film i never see... The end is an exceptinal moment, i love it...

But it's very horrible too :'(

  • i just saw the european version ...when i saw it for the first time when i was a kid...i saw the american version...and use to think that its beautyfull cause to me its clear that he dies and goes up to his paradise...he is not rescued by the dolphin...why you people hate it so much?

  • french is more more more good non ! what se truc?

  • Americans.......

  • disneyficiation at it's best.

  • @AUSNick87 I wonder if they could do this for Shindlers list !

  • @whitemanstand72 haha, sure "and the jews rose from the dead and lived happily ever after"

  • this stupid ending alone just proove how fucked is usa....

omg....they have death penalty right?....use it against who changed ending !

  • Unbelievably destroying the philosophical interpretation of the European ending. Poor America.

  • decadent USA unable to respect an art work ...

Shity ending, where is eric serra music ? But but but WHAT IS THIS SHIT ?

Rome as fallen in decadent society : it's futur of USA if your country is unable to respect and understand others world art work

and if it as just that ... Lot of great movies created in the world are systematically "remaked" for "american market"

US people is so stupid to be unable to understand other thing with " made and remaked in USA"

    repect art work !

  • FFS Luc Besson must have been raging when he had to reshoot that "twaddle". That's upset me now, I wish I hadn't pressed the play button.

It's like Sam Raimi when he had to reshoot the end of "Army of Darkness" or Ridley Scott with the Mickey Spillane version of "Bladerunner"....grrrr.

  • shitty version. greatings from france.

  • There is also a Republican cut in which Ariel the little Mermaid comes to his rescue. :-D

  • The original ending gives me shivers and goosbumps. I must admit they had to change it for the Americans. We cannot handle the reality of things. :-)

  • Oh man, what a fake ending.

  • Bill Conti's score was made for this film but not this crappy ending

  • I couldn't believe they change specially for US such a beautiful yet sad but most suitable ending.. I hate sad endings but for the sake of this particular movie there was NO other possibility as to end the story as it was done in original European version..! And here?? Give me a break..!

  • @Isztar08 Childish american public needs happy end !!! ha ha

  • lol at this happy disney happy meal ending.

  • This end is a big shit !!!! And the music is bad... French end is the best.

  • Why they have to change a movie, do they use to change also a painting or a sculpture? Art is a way of communication, through the movie director wants to say sth to the viewers, it is unacceptable to change it for making it more attractive to the most people. Sales & marketing are distroying cinema...

  • This is much more beautiful than the european ending.

  • @AddieWTH Ridiculous.

  • It's more simple than that. U.S Hollywood business man think that they are the only one who can and who should make good films. European films need a permission and a lot of money to be shown in usa... It's just bad for the us citizens and the outside creators who have to come and work cheap on cheap films.

  • So ridiculous... A shame... You must see the Euro version.

  • lol i think he's swimming away from the music.

When I read about the alternate ending I thought it might make me feel better after watching the original. It could be something good, but they just made it cheap. Like.. hey.. like US series ending!

  • Wow, this ending is so gay.

I'm glad i saw the European version.

  • well, in this version dolphin turnes out to be a lot smarter than a man, because in european, this guy was dumb enough to leave a woman with unborn child - i guess she will have to say one day: "child, your father decided to stay under the water, he didn't care. even after i told him about you".

  • Im looking for the dream scene score.....I LOVE THAT SCENE AND PIECE!!!!!

  • Americans should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

Im not sure if you can recognize art or just that Hollywood tells you that your stupid.

Its an absolute disgrace that the ending has been turned into Seaworld just to suit the American public.

    Im disgusted.

    Shocking.

Watch the European ending by how the French Director meant it to be.

Once again............. You fucking Hollywood Tools.

    So shocked.................. :(

  • Dont mess with a film I love and a director that nearly always creates a masterpiece...you can nearly take a still anywhere in this movie and make a beautiful vision...its art...I do like our American pals but, sorry you only know about MOVIES not anything about finely crafted and written and directed classics...lost it when Humphrey Bogard left the building..sorry ...Mac Sharp.

  • Trust the Americans not to get it...lost the mystery...lost the pain of his Beau...fuk, theres gotta be an American that prefers the original version...at least one...fuk they gonna make Jean Reno, not funny, just in case it offends somebody..its mental...

  • This music sucks

The original music from eric serra is the best, really

  • Pathetic ending.

  • Comment removed

  • Is so much better the NOT-American version.!!

This one is very sweet, agggg! only in "america"!!!

  • I can not believe they changed the ending... This one doen't make any sense!

In the real movie he swims into the deep blue to reunite with his lost family.

  • Jaques Mayol die looking for his own mermit..... the americans final can put this end on a happy box of a big mac... and eat it!!!

  • @PrincessIvoryCrane : The score "didn't fit"? It was composed by Eric Serra hand in hand with Luc Besson, they'd been working together for years, this Bill Conti score is absolutely dreadful, and this ending is just lame. And "pornography"? What the hell?

  • By the way you're not sure he dies in the french version, there is some likelihood the loving dolphin will save him... You're free to imagin, which is, for my vision, a sublime ending... The US one kinda spoils the whole thing

Sauver Willy (on s'y croierait).

  • it is an insukt to the original cut

  • I am swiss, european as well and why is it that people think that the french version is better? He is dying in the french version, why are french so dramatic? i prefer the idea of surviving!

  • @sugatelli88 the dead is part of the life, is real.... and the real is beutyfull,

  • ha ha typical stupid US happy end

  • @malma3

  • Non-linear digital storytelling! However, I like the original ending.

  • Does anyone know where to get the original US version?

  • Do yourself a favour and watch the european version If you haven't allready. Eric Serra's music is an integral part of the film and the original ending is the only one that makes sense.

My favourite fim by far but I prefer the short version.

  • what a crap way to end this movie for spoon fed hollywood US audiences. The euro version is so much better. I almost threw up my dolphin steak when it jumped over him. One word...lame.

  • Lamentable !

  • I like the European version better but I would prefer Bill conti's score more.

  • Comment removed

  • The Big Blue and the little mermaid

Even the dolphin jumps on the scene. Beautiful music.

I think I am going to be sick.

  • Perfect example 'How to destroy one of best ending' for more audience / money.. I was felt after european version little sad (and it was OK). But I feelin else more sad after this one - from other reason only.

  • Please, please, what's this end?? The real end is so much more emotional, intense, true, full of sense. I suggest to all american people and others to see the real version of the movie (with the Eric Serra music, really much better than the american one). This movie is the best movie for ever, so just watch the european version! Huge advice. Huge emotions.

  • The REAL version is much much better. And the original music to, as it was made from the start for this movie by composer Eric Sérra. No offense, but I really don´t like the US version at all.

  • LMAO at this ending.. yep nice song ok then? the whole concept of jaques going back to his REAL world which is the big blue, where also enzo asked to leave him is fucked up!!! the prelude of the ending was his dream where the world turned upside down and he even lost blood as he wasnt made for living outside the sea.

    disappointing

  • DISGUSTING!!!!! What a hell of a jerk did that?? Are you EVERYBODY at pre-school in USA???

  • eding usa = sux ..... really ending = europe ...

  • Americans can't be that dim...... surely........can they?

  • Wow. I cant believe they did that. Im so glad that the first and only version ive ever watched of the Big Blue was the directors cut version. I pity those fools that had only saw the US ver. if the americans had it their way, they'd probably come out with a sequel and it will probably be something like The Big Blue 2:Jaques meeting the mermaids. or something like that. It's a shame isn't it.

  • like the music theme song in the USA version better

  • @chiquitarocket i think song in the Europa version is better

  • I'm confused how people think this is a "happy ending". I always saw it as something like he's swimming off into the moonset, and he ain't coming back...

  • I don't like the music, people should see the french version. It's amazing !

  • French version ending is better (realistic...)

  • This is like Disney came in and raped Luc Besson and the original movie.

  • luv bill conti's score.

  • Comment removed

  • jesus - dear fucking jesus i hate americans even more now. stupid retarded fucks. i think the post below has it right - ie: this is not fucking FREE WILLY

  • OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD!!!!! ive just seen this now and had no idea those yank cheesburger eating, cultureless, obese fucking cuntholes had there own ending. jesus - they just have to have a fucking happy ending ....total total cunts. quite simply cunts, plain and simple.

  • Original Ending is better!

  • Actually I didn't mind this ending....though I do think him "swimming' at the end is more symbolic for him dying and 'going to a better place'. I don't think this extra bit was intended to show audiences he survived or anything.

  • damn i should never have watched this! it hurts to much to see a movie beeing raped

  • Whats that? The open ending the normal version has is much better. You have to think about his charakter. But this version is only laughable :D

  • WTF is that? What did they think? Free Willy? Oh my God, this Americans... They didn't want their ppl to feel sad and they changed the end and made it Free Willy. Stop thinking that Americans are so stupid...

  • What the hell was that?

This US ending looks like it's from some children's movie!

  • @ Lesassassins

    I agree 100%

  • If I were from the US I would be angry that someone (the producers?) decided I needed a dumbed down ending like this.

Ok, I will stop my rant..

  • @ Flaxenthunder

You seriously feel this little jingle is superior to Eric Serra's Lady Blue? Ofcourse taste is subjective. However the significance of the lyrics of Lady Blue obviusly has passed you by.

Ofcourse Lady Blue would be totally out of place here. Better to have a silly ending accompanied by silly music.

  • Is this a joke!? This ending negates the entire movie. And what is up with the music!

  • Both endings are good in their way. I don't really see why they had a different ending for the U.S. - of course they figured the U.S. audience needed a less ambiguous closure. But, that aside, I think the U.S. ending music is, if anything, SUPERIOR to the Eric Serra ending music. No knock on him - I think his compositions are incredible and make this film. However, the U.S. ending song is perfect for the ending and better, in this case, than Serra's song.

  • LOL what a stupid ending! Those idiots haven`t understand this movie. and this hopeless music. where is Eric Serra? well, but what to expect from this silly nation, it`s good, there is no american flag at the end. buhahahaha, morons

  • besides this ending doesn't make any sense with the whole movie and to what happened to jean reno's character.

  • the french and ORIGINAL version is not an unhappy ending.

this USA ending is ridiculous, the northamerican people always need short versions of the movies or they get bored, they need english language versions of the movies because they're too lazy to read subtitles, and need music scores specially composed for them.

  • Look why do you have to be hating over something like this lesassassins? We are all fans of the film obviously. If you don't like the US version then stick with the European version. I am from the US and I like both actually. But because I grew up with the Bill Conti soundtrack I have a predisposition to it. Though I really like the new DVD version with the extra footage and the Serra soundtrack , it's is sort of electronica jazzy, which is cool.

  • this is way too much of a generalization. not all north american people are stupid and get bored, and it's ridiculous to say so. i am from the U.S. and i don't mind reading subtitles, one of my favorite movies is Life is Beautiful, and i don't mind long movies, in fact, I think they're better because the characters can be developed more.

  • it's obviously a generalization. my declaration is against this situation of movies that get almost destroyed because the special US versions made for commercial reasons. i know that not everybody in the US is stupid, actually you have some of the most tanlented filmmakers ever.

  • Fuck this Shit!

It really Fucked up the whole film...

    What a piece of shit!

    Fuck the big studios

  • Holy s**t!!!

    They totally ruined the film.....

    Americans suck!!

  • Fliper o mejor dicho acuaman!!!!!!

  • The Big Blue, whether with a sad ending or a happy one, is a beautifully crafted movie. I love the music of Bill Conti in the American version personally.

  • I find nothing wrong with Americans liking happy endings. There is a perversion that comes about when a civilization has become old and I see that in the European psyche. Having a sad or disturbing ending doesn't make a movie more relevant or more realistic. Americans are more youthfull and more positive as a rule and that attitude is reflected in their art. I watch a lot of films from all over the world. Generally speaking I find French films predictable in that they always have a sad ending.

  • I see ur point but in this case the ending changes so much the meaning of the entire film it feels wrong. Why spend a whole movie developing on the morbid obssesion a man has with the sea, due to the way his dad died when he was young if he is going to suddenly decide right at the end that being human is actually better? People who tried to commit suicide generally stop out of fear but rarely burst into joyful jump after renoncing death.

  • I see your point and agree that the US ending was not consistent with the whole story line. But I still don't think the French obsession with unhappy endings or constant morbidity or self destruction is necessarily any more artistic. Americans maybe overly in need of self congratulatory good vs. bad scenarios which becomes very juvenile at times. The French, however, seem to only appreciate stories involving self destruction or cruelty. That, in my opinion, is a window into a decaying psyche.

  • I don't know where you got that idea that the French have an obsession with unhappy endings. Give me a list of unhappy ending French movies and I'll give you an equal at least of happy endings. Furthermore, French do watch tons of american movies with happy-endings.

The problem here is that in order to sell the movie, they changed the end so that more american people would see it (that i'm not judging american people it, just this poor decision).

  • Commercial ending vs actual will of LB, here's the problem. (sorry... 500 chars limit...)

On an unrelated subject, although the characters are real, the story isn't at all, so "based on a true story" isn't correct.

  • .. err the original version does not have an unhappy ending. Or rather terms like happy/unhappy are transcended (imo)

  • I am not European, but just an American and yes we like happy ending, so what I know my music and I have watched both versions. Personally I love the US verison

  • European ending is almost epic much better then US. Americans always make happy ennding.

Fortunately, we can chose the better version :D . but i have question someone know title of this song in US end.

  • the song is composed by Bill Conti, named "Last Dive" (track 21) and "Finale" (track 22)

I think music part is as good as orginal version by Eric Serra.

  • U are wrong i saw first short version i just now watched long two fck diferetn movie first is pfff long version is epic!

  • @windcat bill conti is the gilty of that??

  • @rubichoper what do you mean "gilty" ?

  • @windcat

I think he meant guilty. Of that awful score.

US version had it changed from Eric Serra to Bill Conti if IRC.

  • @rubichoper Sory Guilty! Guilty of this appalling and ridiculous melody ruined a great movie.
