I only counted 138 i feel robbed ...nice vid ..check out british rail Class 59 locos 2 locos pull 2000 tons up 1 in 30 gradient called the licky incline
When SD40-2 were in charge., Trains seemed more fun and exiting to capture because you never knew what youre gonna expect. Like a B-Unit in between a consist or a Hi-Nose engine, or even an SW1500 mixed in. Or they would come up with a consist that would contain 14 different engines of different types from GP9's, cabless units to SD-60s and 6 axle extra long low hood switcher engine. Now what happened??? Same ol boring wide cabs that all look the same.
wow look at all those maersk containers. I just watched some videos about the 114,000 horsepower Maersk container ships being built. 114,000 HP!!!!!! check it out
Distributed power trains are the best to run, especially when train consists are intermodal. I've ran them and the whine is the engineer is running rear locomotives from the lead set and he's running them at the same throttle or higher to push the train. And yes, it is a FRA violation to run a train without ditch lights. Mainline operations require you to have ditch lights.
Well....actually yes and no. True the engineer is responsible for running his train safely and efficiently.
However, with that said he also must follow rules established by the FRA and the railroad he works for. And those rules dictate how lights, bells, horns, etc are used.
BTW - a foamer isn't necessarily an "FRA violation". But that 1 percent of the foamers who ruin it for all of them certainly makes me kick them off the property
-=sighs=- Just a common day stack train with common power. I don't see whats so exciting about ACe's and GEVO's. If you ask me, they are just boxes on wheels. Want real power? Give me an SD40-2, C30-7, C36-7, SD45, and any EMD GP-series. Now those are REAL locomotives, with REAL locomotive sounds.
IMHO, newer diesels like ACe's and MAC's, and to a lesser extent GEVO's and other GE's, give me just as much of a thrill as older ones when it comes to noise. I watched a BNSF SB unit coal train take off from Ft. Scott, KS, at night several months ago after having stopped for a new crew - they hit notch 7 or 8 (darn near, if not full throttle) about 80 yards after taking off, and DANG did those things make some noise. I want to say it was all MAC's and ACe's on that consist. OH YEAH!!!
We have nothing like this in the UK. I remember staying in Florida and hearing a train passing near by. It went on and on and on....that's impressive. There must be some serious power output right there - I bet it won't stop in a hurry either.
Ok. Let me just start off by saying what's in those trailers are your flatscreen TV, iPod, Xbox, sneakers, whatever you can think of, and that's how they get to your store shelves, so you can thank the railroad for allowing you to go get that PS3 of yours from Best Buy.
It is called DPU operation or Distributed Power Units. They are ran by remote from the head end. Sometime you will see them in the middle as well. 2x2x2
alright, I am an 88U in the reserves, railway ops. But I dont work civilian rail. Why is there 2 locomotives on the back, I am assuming that they are pushing while the 2 MUd locomotives are pulling (obviously). I love working on the rail with the military, such a rush to get to work with so much POWER!!!
Yeah and helpers in the middle are usually refered to as swing helpers and also BNSF locomotive systems can't run three seperate sets of locomotives so they do not run swing helpers or mid-train helpers only front and rear units. UP runs swing helpers often here in Colorado. The rear DPUs are usually on heavier trains that are climbing to help reduce stress on the couplers and prevent straight lining.
Power sharing is fairly common. There are computer programs that actually keep up with where they are and locomotive hours so that things 'balance out'.
If you think that is amazing...look at a typical freight train hauling railcars owned by dozens of other railroads or industries.
The "car rental" implications are amazing. Equipment cost is a huge factor for railroads.
Well, I know that on a freight train there are different rail cars from different rail roads. But, you know BNSF and UP, the 2 top railroad competitors in the US, with a locomotive from each, well you get the idea.
Actually...it's very common. I actually manage a joint BNSF/UP served facility. While they are indeed competitors...the main competitor are the trucks moving up and down the highway.
Run through power is very common between these two roads.
Those trains pass by through town where i live, very annoying catching one on the crossing because they can take upward of 5 minutes of my day sitting there.... Can make a day bad if running late.
Why is this a "MUST SEE"? Just to hear you bitch about ditch lights? You should apply for NS management... You see one boring stack train - you've seen them all...
I thought the video was cool! I havent seen anything like this before and the thought of 2hundred and fifty plus containers on a train had never ocurred to me . Fair play to the drivers of these leviathan's .
Don't care about foamers so long as they're smart. It's the ones that are ON or too close to the track that piss me off. Or when they steal bells and horns and shit.

Yeah, you're a real cocksucker. From now on people should keep Bricks on tap, returning the favor when you dipshits throw water bottles and pennies. Permenant brain damage from a brick hitting your face at 70mph would be classified as karma right? No, the diseases (cancer) you get from sitting in those rolling elctromagnetic radiation boxes called trains is probably karma enough. How ironic hahahaha
Both of you need to calm down. Trains are not "electromagnetic radiation boxes" (what!?) and railfans don't deserve waterbottles/pennies to the head. I never have had a crew throw anything at me, but I have had them throw timetables and stuff to me. Throwing waterbattles is just ignorant, and shows your "low life" mentality. I wish the "mood" of the video would have not been interrupted by the commentary, but overall, a nice video. Interesting sound coming from the prime movers in the SD70ACe. I like the doppler effect it gives!
And what's the "must see" in this except no lights and no shut mouth from the guy that taped this. Big deal a train goes by. Show me a derailment or a cow getting squared by the train and THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!
that's the second vid today i've seen with 2 engines on the front and two on the back of an intermodal train, the other was in cali. unless its the same train. why do they do that now. and are box cars becoming a thing of the past since intermodal well cars are safer, faster and lighter?
