Global Truss is out of California, it's a pin based system and looks solid. Not like tomcat w/ the heavy bolt and nut system. It's more pins and cotters...
Cool rig. I can't see how you use that many fog machines for weddings, I would think the Martin would be plenty, and even then I think I'd trade it out for a good hazer since you'd probably able to use it in lot more venues than a fogger.
I don't recommend that you put your moving heads on that truss if you want to use moving lights get the truss that has bass plates one on each side and one across with corners that way you will have plenty of weight for your lights and for your cabling loom your cable that way it will be nice and neat
I'd say keep it all and cut your wires to size and then wrap them round the stands to keep it tidy and when your using the mirror ball use 4 parkans and mount them around it back pointing a little down and if you've got lasers try pointing them at the mirror ball in a pre setup cause I Think it might look good or try mounting it below the mirror ball pointing up and put the mirror ball in the middle of the dance floor
use tri-truss or box truss instead of flat truss. that way you can hide your cables inside the trussing. and gets some led parcans and use them to wash the truss so the truss doesnt look boring :)
hello my name is sebastian and I'm from chile, my question is this
Is it that I have a marriage on 16 April this year and the bride requested a light waltz for the couple and only enlighten and groom her, I thought of a PAR 64 bulb but not if it is enough I recommend you?
oh, my gosh your wife is right you got to much junk, get rid of it all. You should be able to get a light show going in less than 5 min. Bro your doing way to much work and that does not include your system and speakers. I would hate to see that, the way you think it probably super heavy and with a bunch of junk you really dont need. Your just to krazy with equipment, your focus should be on Marketing. Just getting gigs, you can do jobs with Radio Shack gear, clients dont know squat.
My Suggestion to you is 2 or 4 more moving heads the coverage and versatility you get with them is unmatched. i suggest comer spot 150's bc they don't draw too much power they have a wide beam angle meaning its spot is bigger than most heads. and they weight 40 lbs each and are half the size of 250's you can change the gobo it got a focus and rotation great all around piece. or if you don't mind lifting 60lb and huge boxes u can look into elation powerspot 250's.

Hey thats a great equipment you have there. I can learn a lot of you. Umm well i got a question where do you buy the thruss bars nd stuff? Im a bit mew in all the lighting. Im the one in charge of all the lighting in my church and im tryng to get more advance with things
My main tip is to buy moving heads, preferably Mac250entour/Mac250wash, although the Showtec250PhantomProfile/Wash. These can serve as all of the below
Strobe (most heads have a shutter)
Multiple par cans/LED par cans/Par cans with colour scrollers (heads 10+ colours)
Moonflower (plenty of panterns and gobos, often rotating and with prisms)
Laser effects (if you have the right gobos installed, glass gobos are best
@jamesabbott100 this is a 2 year old setup, watch his new vids he has the best light show ive seen, like 25 par's, moving heads, projectors, and a $500 fogger

currently working on getting 2 strobes and 4 moving heads
MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER USING 12 OR 14 IN BOX TRUSSING. I HAVE BEEN USING BOX TRUSSING FOR 6 YEARS NOW. ALL MY LIGHTS ARE MOUNTED IN THE TRUSS. Hey Mike i have a question for this part 6:19 how did you put up the lights on the top and can you put up lasers on the top to? please reply back COASTRDUDE25.
hey mike, an idea wud b to use only IEC(kettle cords) for everything, most lights and pretty much any piece of professional equipment comes with loose power cords and either an iec or figure 8 connection socket. If anything comes with an attached power cord eg; par 56 leds, cut the plug and some of the cord off and put a male iec plug on there nice and close to the body of the fixture, to lessen any possible cable mess.
little side comment. if you put a fan in front of the fog machines it turns the into faze machines (fog+haze=faze) that way the fog doesn't get to thick and block the lights.
Hey Mike, maybe someone suggested this already, and it might not work depending on how high your speaker stacks are. But some gigs I work at we put our moving heads on top of the speaker stacks. works really nice. but otherwise, great video, got some good equipment!
Hey Mike, why don't you just abandon the trussing and just use light stands with a Revo and a moving head on each stand and maybe a fusion effect on each side of the booth? Keep it nice and simple.
For the price of all those lights you could have bought 4 Entours.
In my opinion the whole setup looks like garbage. There are too many lights and shitty effects on it.
My suggestion is to eliminate pretty much all of lights and effects you already have and buy 4 Entours and a dmx dongle. Buy 2 8' square truss pieces and 2 good crank stands. Crank it in the air and drape the stands.

@directsound Jeez whats his problem?! MM love your set ups man, there is 2 people on youtube who inspire me to make my lighting better then it is. You and Stewardproductions. Both of you have awsome set ups...Keep up the good work. and for fim69, he just being rediculous, i say a lil hatred going on...just my thought...lol
@directsound he's wrong anyway. you wouldnt take all your gear to every event, you need to pick and choose depending on what you're doing. For example, a large hall may require more/bright lights, a school disco might need a few moonflowers, an 18th might want strobe lights, a wedding might want uplighting... you can't do all this with some martin movingheads. On an event I did recently we have 6 MACs and tonnes of uplighting, but it was big budget. Pick and choose, dont listen to this guy!
hey mike. pleeze never place something like that OVER people. that's a law suit and a half for you there. use tri-point truss and check how much it's allowed to hold +safety ropes!
you guys don't have a commitee in the u.s. that checks your trussing, voltage limit, etc?
good invest on the crank-ups. they are more stable than tripod stands you use in your vid.
bottom line: i'm not trying to piss up your chimney. but keep in mind that accidents happen. nice work
DJ Mickey Mike, I would recommend the Chavet line 1.1 because its extremely light weight and has a big effect on the dance floor. AND its really inexpensive!
you should try making a snake with your dmx cables. you can use zip ties or that flexible pvc conduit. thats what i did for all of my audio, video, and midi cables.
In my youth group, We've switched all our traditional lighting with Intel Moving Heads from Martin. We set up 4 Coemar iWash Halo's, 6 MAC 575 Krypton's, 6 ProSpot 250 LX's, and 2 ChauvetCOLORado Batten 72 TOUR's backlighting 2 white mesh scrims. This effectively allows us any range of motion with our lights, but at the same time, we can light out stage, no problem with the limitation of no movement from traditional lights.
if you are having cable issues . it may be an idea to make / buy some IWB's . that would keep the cables out the way and make it easier to rig up on a gig night.
an IWB is an Internally Wired Bar. the cables are ran along the inside of the bar and out of holes cut into them . makes the rig look a lot tidier and generally easier to work with.
they are quite usually found in theatre spaces and in fixed rigs . but they would work fine for what you are doing. most llighting and sound companies sould sell them or make them. if not its easy enough
You asked us to comment on the setup. Right. Why have you got 20 foot of truss and dont put hardly anything on it? I have 1x12 foot truss and I mount 2x ROBE 250 Discharge Moving Heads, 4x scanners, 2x barrel head scanners, 4x Abstract Twister 4 Moonflowers and 2x strobes. I don't know why you put lights on individual stands... Waste of time, money, effort and cabling. Buy a truss with T-bars. You can just use the Ts if it is a small venue.
WOW! I would like to have half of what you got. All I have right now , is a friggin homemade set of lights made out of coffee cans with colored bulbs. got em dancin to the music. lol. but it really works. keepin it way old school. just doin it with what I have and a little ingenuity.
i would recommend you keep all the lights and divide them up to 2 different party setups one being your all out big parties and the second setup being your small gigs, like a back up set up, but a dj can never have to much equipment
you should mount your moving heads or yokes upside down on your truss and get rid of the mirrior ball the standard par cans the little blue fogger and yea :)
I haven't seen your video until now. A bit late for a suggestion! Glad to read that you have sold the moonflower.
What kind of lights have you bought now? Here in Holland we have mostly Martin Mac's, High End and Varilite moving heads. For small companies I recommend Martin mac 250 to 700's. The mac 250 wash has a new awesome lens so you have a kind of 'acl like' beam!
With a good lighting console, youre about to make a good show!
hi mike what i have done with my goal post is that i have done is taped all the dmx cables and power cables to the bottom bar on the goal post then going down the leg
You should grab a lazer or two use those on the outsides of the global trusts. Id even throw the strobs underneath them. Id also drop the two standard par cans they'll just be extra chords and such. I like the up lighting with the LEDS but have you tryed putting those as Down lighting on the trusts?? they'd look nice with a color chase mixed with the up lighting as well. Prob only need two of those fog machines idk bout the bubble machine thats old schooll my friend =P
cases for everything. The truss jacks will make all the difference for a more profesional look. When you can purchase some box truss, not rowan or tiangle like some fool mentioned. Between the box truss and the jacks you can lifta much larger safer load.
I tried looking up the weight raiting for your pannel truss but it was a little difficult without a brand name. The strongest place to hang anything is at the pannel point wich is were two cross bars come together top or bottom. Keep all your equipment and make some standard rolling
If you changed your truss to a triangular truss, you wouldn't need any of the revo or moving head stands. Not to mention, triangular truss has a higher load limit.
U have a nice little system. I would lose (foggers and quip the Martin mag 2000) We use to have some moon flower's i would lose that one to it getting old. and you dont have a set. mabe match some dmx so u dont have all diffrent ( Moveing heads are not the best class but it up to date. i would deftly quip the 56s led, Star laser kids like thos effects . ... other then that nice system. verry orgnized. ... LOL your back yard remindes me of Arizona
hey man its always nice to have extra equipment..and to boot you have alot of nice gear keep it all ,tell your wife to stuff it cause im sure you pay tha bills..also have all that diff equipment allows you to have a wide range customization for party packages.
I run sound and lighting with customsound&lighting.if you live in pekin ILL.any bands need sound.I'm the guy.I use the magic260 lighting board.spots, strobs, lazers, leds, big fogers.you want the best.dangit! we are the best!look us on myspace.all the bands are on there
I never heard what you control the lights with. For my show control is the key. Everything should be DMX and you can integrate all of them. That would really make your show pop. You have a lot of great effects!
understand ur lights and what the purpose is, nothing is set in stone but there are general purposes. Ur Led strips, pars, strobes, and black lights, are all ambiance lighting, which is great when combined with a main effect. lasers, moonflowers, and disco balls, are all main effects. Intels can be either/or very easily which is why their great, not trying to sound like a know it all, but i do know lighting, i can give u specifics if u want otherwise take that, and design your show, and have fun
If you have 4 movingh heads and in between you mount the led strips and the strobe lights, it wil look pretty cool
MH-LS-STR-LS-MH-laser-MH-LS-STR-LS-MH
You could place the LED parcans on the top of your truss and have them in different directions it will look very nice.
With your new truss you can turn your laser 90 degrees and it will not be in your eyesight, or as jonjram747 said buy an other laser and use that one, some one wich is more like a box
nice setup, I kinda find it cool if you can try to hang the american dj accu spot moving heads in the truss but the truss is just not designed to hold it. I think if you'll have a triangle design truss you can mount the moving heads on it upside down. everything is cool.
wow real nice!!! I think moving heads are more efficient if hanged upside down rather than placing them in a tripod. the truss you got there is pretty awesome, so neat and easy to raise up. you've shown the other video when you got the crank up truss, is it ok if you mount your top cabs onto it? or hang the top cabs on the middle part of the truss? as if like in night clubs it's hanging side ways above head level atleast 10 feet high? what do you think? can the truss support it with the tripods?
you have to get the mounting kits for the eons, they r like 30 bucks a piece, ant the regular 10 ft trusses are like 150 bucks and you can get them at gutiar center
Got ya Mikey. Transparent cueing is tuff to tackle but once you do all of your dmx lighting no matter what brand will cue the same show. Its insane. Stevie who I mentioned to you runs the Martin Program while I opt for the ADJ program. Both have great results. We have both simplified with Flight casings for lights and audio & I know I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. I run the ev force i25 ups and the ev kw Dual 18 per bass
bin. That is enough work to lug,,lol. HPY 09!!Greg
Mike for weddings obtain the triangular truss from say (global) 2 5ft will do. Look into software for your dmx512 protocol. ADJ (my dmx) or Martin (light jockey). After that you'll have a hell of a show with the 4 colorstrips, 2 ADJ starballs, 2 spots and the laser. You can peg the spots on a mirror ball and cast gobos and it looks awesome. Your choice. Use your remaining led cans 4 background washes & fog optional. Check djstevied2 broadcasts. It has helped alot. Greg.....
First off thanks , if you watch some of my newer videos you will see my DMX software in use ShowXpress also we have focused a lot of engery into Up-lighting thanks for the idias
Dump - Your 1x Miror ball is 2 small for an authentic vintage 70's disco look, plus its effect is already replaced by ya starballs.
Also non DMX static flower lights, very nineties. Anything that's tacky n' beat up. Be assured it has had its time and has ALREADY paid for self x 1000 . Be strong my friend! lol ;-))))

you guys don't have a commitee in the u.s. that checks your trussing, voltage limit, etc?
good invest on the crank-ups. they are more stable than tripod stands you use in your vid.
bottom line: i'm not trying to piss up your chimney. but keep in mind that accidents happen. nice work
greets from austria.

Do you still use that truss ?
I also have 20 ft' ( triangular)but i place it on top of my mains ,about 9 ft high.
I was thinking in cutting them & using them as a vertical truss (4pcs of 5 ft's).
.
What do yuo think? I just like the way yours looks ( vertical)!

if you are having cable issues . it may be an idea to make / buy some IWB's . that would keep the cables out the way and make it easier to rig up on a gig night.
hope i was some help,
aaron.
aarondoskate 2 years ago
what is a iwb?
sorry
mm
directsound 2 years ago
hey mikey mike .
an IWB is an Internally Wired Bar. the cables are ran along the inside of the bar and out of holes cut into them . makes the rig look a lot tidier and generally easier to work with.

cool I havent seen them yet thanks
MM
directsound 2 years ago
they are quite usually found in theatre spaces and in fixed rigs . but they would work fine for what you are doing. most llighting and sound companies sould sell them or make them. if not its easy enough

You can just use the Ts if it is a small venue.
stevecopping1981 2 years ago
You could even put a LED strip on each T and the other 2 strips in the centre of the truss.

Great Videos Mike.. What kind of stands are you using?

i would recommend you keep all the lights and divide them up to 2 different party setups one being your all out big parties and the second setup being your small gigs, like a back up set up, but a dj can never have to much equipment

Good Luck!

i think what you can doe its simple and easy....
all you stands, so speaker stands and light stands can you decorate with white drops... three corsner drops or drops in a cirkel
very simple...leight...and very nice....

Hey Mike,

understand ur lights and what the purpose is, nothing is set in stone but there are general purposes. Ur Led strips, pars, strobes, and black lights, are all ambiance lighting, which is great when combined with a main effect. lasers, moonflowers, and disco balls, are all main effects. Intels can be either/or very easily which is why their great, not trying to sound like a know it all, but i do know lighting, i can give u specifics if u want otherwise take that, and design your show, and have fun
alebenns 3 years ago
If you have 4 movingh heads and in between you mount the led strips and the strobe lights, it wil look pretty cool
MH-LS-STR-LS-MH-laser-MH-LS-STR-LS-MH
You could place the LED parcans on the top of your truss and have them in different directions it will look very nice.
With your new truss you can turn your laser 90 degrees and it will not be in your eyesight, or as jonjram747 said buy an other laser and use that one, some one wich is more like a box
I think you have some cool stuff

harnojerem 3 years ago
i now have 32' of box truss but the 2" ladder truss will hold me up it is strong stuff!!!
Thanks DJ Mikey Mike
directsound 3 years ago
nice setup, I kinda find it cool if you can try to hang the american dj accu spot moving heads in the truss but the truss is just not designed to hold it. I think if you'll have a triangle design truss you can mount the moving heads on it upside down. everything is cool.
gabegeforce 3 years ago
If you ck some of my newer videos you will see I hav been hanging the Moving Heads from the truss it works Great thanks for the input!!!
DJ Mikey Mike
directsound 3 years ago
wow real nice!!! I think moving heads are more efficient if hanged upside down rather than placing them in a tripod. the truss you got there is pretty awesome, so neat and easy to raise up. you've shown the other video when you got the crank up truss, is it ok if you mount your top cabs onto it? or hang the top cabs on the middle part of the truss? as if like in night clubs it's hanging side ways above head level atleast 10 feet high? what do you think? can the truss support it with the tripods?
gabegeforce 3 years ago

you have to get the mounting kits for the eons, they r like 30 bucks a piece, ant the regular 10 ft trusses are like 150 bucks and you can get them at gutiar center
djsareawesome 3 years ago
Got ya Mikey. Transparent cueing is tuff to tackle but once you do all of your dmx lighting no matter what brand will cue the same show. Its insane. Stevie who I mentioned to you runs the Martin Program while I opt for the ADJ program. Both have great results. We have both simplified with Flight casings for lights and audio & I know I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. I run the ev force i25 ups and the ev kw Dual 18 per bass
bin. That is enough work to lug,,lol. HPY 09!!Greg
gregory31276 3 years ago
Mike for weddings obtain the triangular truss from say (global) 2 5ft will do. Look into software for your dmx512 protocol. ADJ (my dmx) or Martin (light jockey). After that you'll have a hell of a show with the 4 colorstrips, 2 ADJ starballs, 2 spots and the laser. You can peg the spots on a mirror ball and cast gobos and it looks awesome. Your choice. Use your remaining led cans 4 background washes & fog optional. Check djstevied2 broadcasts. It has helped alot. Greg.....

Dump the MRS not the equipment! lol
KEEP -The UV its handy 4 Halloween decoration.
Replace - Pars with lightweight 1w LED
Dump - Your 1x Miror ball is 2 small for an authentic vintage 70's disco look, plus its effect is already replaced by ya starballs.
Also non DMX static flower lights, very nineties. Anything that's tacky n' beat up. Be assured it has had its time and has ALREADY paid for self x 1000 . Be strong my friend! lol ;-))))
