What is it about a creature with at least 2 big round eyes that make them so adorable to many of us and tolerable to most, while bugs with little eyes or no visible eyes will illicit the "Kill it!" response? There has to be some evolutionary, neurological reason behind this. I'm thinking maybe it's because human babies have large eyes, and because it's normal to feel non-threatened by babies and we must take care of them to propagate the human race, perhaps big-eyed bugs have the same appeal.

Arachnophobes take note. These little beasties are the worst spiders to fear. Unlike even tarantulas, these fellows can actually see you from affar. And they will contemplate jumping at you. Good thing they are harmless though.

This particular spider i've always liked, its so cute and wonderful, a friend of mine taught me when i was little that they were harmless and i could handle it by hand with no worries. Great video

I feel bad. A while ago there was a jumping spider on my stove. It had big angry eyes and hopped around like nobody's business. It freaked me out so I squished it! I felt bad right after and haven't killed a spider since. Now I rescue them and toss them outside (unless it's winter then I just put them in our basement or on a plant in our greenhouse). Stop spider squishing!

When they clean their eyes, they actually use the pedipalps to brush the dust off their "see-thru exoskeleton lense" that covers their eyes. I have a video of a platycryptus undatus jumping spider doing this, it's titled "World's Cutest Jumping Spider on my Finger". This was the first time I had seen one do this, I just happen to catch it while filming the spider.

Does he not fear you or anything? I've never had a spider or insect for a pet before, so I dont rightly know how you let them crawl or walk around on their own without fearing them running off too fast for you to get them, atleast with really small insects and spiders..

Jumping spiders have excellent vision, and can teleport. so no real reason to fear most things :P They are the most intelligent spiders and quite curious. You really cant compare them to most spiders and insects.
