@alyssio I seen him in person and he is a Sturgeon. Actually When I went to see him I sat in front of his aquarium for an hour thinking about the offspring he could produce. No matter how old he gets I still think he's a magnificent creature that everyone should admire.
better life in that tank than being raped & eaten by a sea lion. sure another sturgeon would've taken his place. sadly watched a 10-12' fish killed and barely eaten below the dam recently, and our guide mentioned that he often views that happening many times a day and hundreds per year.
Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, and safe, or point pistols. You'll hear the words, Loughner, offin' her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some even say they hear, do it.
@Gargarensisspire im sure some have eatin small kids and adult but am i suprised no because their big and people want to live near the huge carnivirous fish. no offence but if your scared of gettin eatin by a fish then dont live near it. you might say well those people cant go anywhere else when in fact they can. their are other parts of the river
White Sturgeon are not endangered, they are just threatened in some areas. Mostly where they are land-locked and cannot get out to sea.
Also, keeping a fish in captivity is not cruel or inhumane. Unless they are like White Sharks and cannot survive in captivity, then there is nothing wrong with it. We are able to give them perfect environments with no competition for food.
@Nugburner420 That's because you are looking back into a prehistoric era. Sturgeons are living fossils, their like cockroaches and crocodiles, unchanged for hundreds of millions of years.
Im from Northern BC and there are quite a few comming back with the Sturgeon Release Project in the Nechako river. a few summers ago while I was on my Inner tube with some friends we saw one break the water, and its tail came out slowly and dissapeared again in a wirl pool. It was the neatest, scariest thing ive experienced on the tubes. I didnt realize that they surface like that until that day. I could see its back kind of armoured looking. I would estimate the one we saw was about 6 1\2 ft
Definently. I wouldnt want to eat one of these things though. Ive eaten some sturgeon before and disgusting and kind of muddy tasting. If people werent using them to eat their eggs, these fish would prolly not be endangered
@cameltoejoe69 That's not really why they are endangered, sturgeon don't reach sexual maturity until 30 years of age, so they were slow to recover from overfishing, and pollution to begin with, plus dams block them off from reaching their nesting areas up river. I hope they recover, but I kinda doubt it.
well i never heard of a lake sturgeon where i live there are green and white sturgeon and if it has a shovel shaped nose that means its a green sturgeon
nope and nope. That's a lake sturgeon or a white. I need a better look at the scute and coloration. Green sturgeon are super bony and their scutes stays big and sharp. While the white and lake sturgeon scutes starts to shrink as they grow.
Sorry but fortunately there's no white sturgeon anywhere around the world except West Coast of the USA along the entire West Coast of Canada up to Alaska.
if your mom can get more sturgeon be sure to pm me i will some ;D i have a 300g atm and i can always donate to the shed once they get to big or release to the wild in WI thanks in advance!
Ok living a comfortable life where you don't have to compete for food is just inhumane isn't it? I have been to this place and it is a wonderful learning experience for children and if it being in captivity pisses you off so much then go and live in the wilderness for a few months and then get back to me. Trust me the only difference those fish know is that they get to float around and eat all day.
