  • where can I watch the entire video for free? Advice please! Thanks

  • God dammit. Can we have any YouTube vid that doesn't have a raging argument about politics that ends up being racist? Just watch the damn video.

  • @Battle5tarRJC Best Hollywood movie about soviet it is K19

  • @hurasura Ah the widow maker. Great film.

  • @Battle5tarRJC You're in the wrong place for that, sadly.

  • @MrLunitunz All I'm saying is leave it for Question Time or something.

  • If I ever buy a boat I'm naming it "Vilnius Schoolmaster"

  • I will now have to rent this film out :-)

  • Sean Connery attempting to speak Russian without an accent is hilarious, even to a non-Russian it's clear to hear some highland slur in there!

  • One of my all time favorite movies.

  • Fantastic action film, focused on story and build up rather than explosions and one liners.

  • Actually clint eastwood is the best actor that ever lived and could fuck chuck borris up

  • @FiddleJacks Who's Chuck Borris and where is he?

  • Great Sean Connery!!

  • Fucking Soviets used to make some scary weapons. Bad ass people the Russians.

  • is he talking about his cock?

  • Such a great movie. The music really made it for me.

  • Hello there! My name isch Schean Connery!

  • This is the same shit movie about russians as those russian movies where they try to play americans.

The directors of those films should hire native actors for authenticity, but usually the budget is too tight for that, or they are just reluctant to do that.

  • @sergeontheloose Peter Hyams did do that with '2010', with the Russians (apart from Helen Mirren) being played by actual Russian actors. I think the idea with 'Hunt For Red October' was to get recognised actors/character actors for the parts since it was a high profile release. I take your point, but it's still good to see Sam Neill and Tim Curry in this film.

  • @Numinous20111

Helen Mirren actually is a native speaker--her father was a White Russian emigre.

  • @TimW42 That explains why her accent was impeccable in 2010. Thanks for that bit of info.

  • @Numinous20111 Yeah, it was one of the first things I noticed. There were several native speakers in the cast, IIRC.

  • @wb6162 You were saying!

  • @sergeontheloose I'm sure some pathetic russian actor that nobody has ever heard of would be a hell of a lot cheaper to hire than Sean Connery and Sam Neil you fucking moron. That really is the dumbest argument I have ever heard.

  • I can't speak Russian either, so Mr Bond's efforts are good enough for me.

And the submarine is clearly sitting still in the water when the camera zooms out.

But in spite of the flaws, Nevertheless I still think this is one of the most atmospheric intros to a war film, love it!

  • Russean Commiery.

  • "Red October" should, AFAIK (I'm not Russian so I could be wrong) be spelled "КРАСНЫЙ ОКТЯБРЬ" and not "КРАСНЫЙ ОКТIABR".

The first word ("КРАСНЫЙ") is OK but in the second they approximated Я with IA which would sound close to what it should sound like but there is no I letter in Russian (it's "И"), they wrote В (which is equivalent to a latin "V") instead of a "Б" and they put an R instead of a Р (which is funny since they had used the right letter in the first word) and they forgot the Ь.

  • The best movie of it's kind in my opinion.

  • The early 90's was the peak of movies in Hollywood, especially action movies like this. Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford owned the early 90's.

  • stupid traitor captain !

  • HALADRYGA I SUROVY

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Perfectly!

  • loved this film

  • It's not just the letters they used for the text. To speak a foreign language to a degree that native speakers feel comfortable requires practice, lots of practice, which in turn means it requires lots of time. That time they usually do not have when they make a film, so they will either happily use people with suitable skills or at least pretend, so that it sounds foreign.

For Russians: "National Winter Hunt" has a Russian pretending to be German. It's about the same as here...

  • I speak russian. And this is gibberish.

  • @FreeeeS Ahh, but this, you see, is the Hollywood dialect of Russian.

  • @FreeeeS And?

  • This was always my favorite part of the entire movie.

  • does anyone else notice the US 180 class Icebreaker/Buoy tender sailing with the convoy? Just a tad outta place eh?

  • i remember watching this when i was 4 good old times :)

  • russian dogs

  • @boristhebatman you smallbritain pig

  • At first moment i thought it's Connory looking at Scottish cliffs :) and than he speaks Russian ..

  • AWEC BAWIN...........

  • It is always funny when american or european actors are playng russians. People in Russia laugh when see it.

  • @Kuliev07 Trust me it's the same thing when any actor try to pretend he speaks a language he doesn't actually speak (or at least without a very thick accent) or when they pretend to know about things they don't actually know anything about...

  • @Kuliev07 I like it when they get actors in their late 20's or early 30's to play 17-year-old high school students.

  • alec....wawin....

  • @TheJaaysog You mean Awec Bawin right?

  • @AndreHiltre yes

  • Lol kids fighting over pointless stuff :p

  • @Zukhov1945 why are u think that it pointless stuff? In this flick actors speak in russian language but i say that it's fake and not russian language (or very bad and inexplicable) . In a serious movie they give u FAKE, this is normal for u?

  • Comment removed

  • I know, everyone told this, but it isn't Russian. It's even not sounds like Russian speech.

  • @Farkas4444 It IS Russian speech. It even uses Russian expressions that only Russians use. However it is extremely bad spoken Russian speech so no one can make it out clearly right away.

  • @lkeve yep it's right

  • @lkeve Maybe. I'm not good at Russian.

  • I think his character is Lithuanian, not Russian. I could not understand him either. It sounds like Lithuanian.

  • ahahahaahahahahahahah phahaahahahahahahahahahha

what are fuck IS THIS????? what are they say???? is not russian language! it is fucking bullshit

  • @Murkadios It's traditional Russian Lith.

  • @CookiesAndGaming thx man, im from russia OKay? i know russian and belorusian and ukranian languages. I can understand all accent of these languages, but IT IS bullshit, not russian, like: "wrack jofnsf baks maks frink" in english.

    Sorry for my english

  • @Murkadios You don't understand USSR/SOVIET russian do you?

  • @CookiesAndGaming what? do u think that russian at soviet period and russian now is different languages? omg man..... or ....what do u mean?

ok, i tell u that i mean when i wrote my 1st post: Some words which they used in that situation is ridiculous, some words are not in any slavic languages. And finaly they say with absolutely dirty-dirty accent, that i understood them only after 4-5 reviews.

  • @Murkadios You retard, Soviet weren't just Russian so they merged languages.

  • @CookiesAndGaming loooooooool)))))) what are stuped delirium

  • @Murkadios You can't even spell and don't give me "I'm a Russian" Crap, You're an obvious retard.

говоришь полную хуйню, а я тебе как барану пытаюсь объяснить, или я должен был тебе сразу сказать, что ты долбаеб? give me ur skype and i say tha I AM RUSSIAN for u

  • @Murkadios I know your fucking russian, BUT THATS NOT TRADITIONAL RUSSIAN. You gimp.

  • @CookiesAndGaming u just fucking stuped idiot, wtf NOT TRADITIONAL RUSSIAN - it is delirium.. retard is u

  • @Murkadios I wasn't saying you weren't Russian I was saying your just STUPID.

  • @Murkadios Глупый тормозить

  • @CookiesAndGaming dude, something like a soviet language does not exsist, in soviet union the spoken language is russian! and something like traditional russian does not exist too! there is russian, and streetslang russian...and in that movie the captain is saying just 2 russian words, the rest is nonsense! the actors had a little crashcourse in russian for about 5 minutes! ......pretty easy to explain!

  • @CookiesAndGaming the text they have learned for the movie is written in latin letters, cuz the actors can not read Cyrillic! u cant write down something in russian with latin letters, u cant reproduce the correct noun perfect, for u it sounds russian, for a russian it sounds like u read a book backwards, record it and play it backwards again, try that at home with english and u will have a feeling how it sounds for us!

  • @eugenmichailow This is very true. When I joined the army back in 2002, there was a Russian immigrant whose English was passable, but not fluent. I tried asking him to translate the words from this movie using the closest pronounciation I could possibly do. To him, it was jibberish. I tried writing it down. Jibberish.

  • @Koniving but well, the pronounciation is one thing, but that the actors and the movie is very good is an other, i like it! :)

  • @eugenmichailow so are they speaking russian or latin ?

  • @OpticJBigBalls I think it's Commie they are speaking :D

  • @OpticJBigBalls they speak russian in a bad way :)

  • @eugenmichailow I have seen people write in Russian with latin letters but the same rules as in Russian still applied as far as I know... For example "Спасибо" (thank you) was written "Spasibo".

For people of English and quite a few other languages which use the latin alphabet they would have though "Spasibo" should be pronounced something like Спазибо when in reality it should be pronounced something like "Spassiba/Spaciba" (an unstressed "o" is pronounced like an "a").

  • @MarbledPaladin Argh, I meant to say "for speakers of English" and not "for people of English"...

  • @MarbledPaladin buddy, why u tell me, this is what i said, i speak russian...hehe

i live in europe now, when i write a mail in russian i have to use latin latters, but russian speaking ppl, they know the words, so they know what i write, but other ppl cant, cuz they do not know the rules of russian pronounciation, and many words cant be written correckt in latin laters for example "pajalusta - please" i cant write it down in cyrillic, but u know what might happen with it!

  • @eugenmichailow The average Russian would do far better reading English than a North American would at reading Russian. Part of that is pure accident; English language is still a dominant language in international culture and trade and like it or not, you'll be exposed to it no matter where you live at some point. Part of that is plain old complacency and ignorance on the part of North Americans, who can barely manage to master English themselves.

  • @va3svd ja eto snaju, no mne ne panatno patschemu ti mne abjesnajesh? ja shtoli neto skasal? je wet tolka abjesnil patshemu ne russkajesitshnim ludam trudna russkij jasik ut4it, ili prosto wigawarewat russkije slowa napisoni latinskimi bukwami! nu pazdrawlaju, ja toje pa russki gawaru, i maji sasedi toje ...hehe :)

prasti shto tak pishu, russkaij tastaturi netu!

  • @eugenmichailow

I would have thought that they would get people in to teach them how to pronounce it etc, but I'm not Russian, so I'll take your work for it :)

  • @notsureyou i guess so too, but well, i dont know how much they wanted to spent on it, or how much time they had, in some movies u can hear that they had a good practice before, or they take real russians to play russians :)

  • @notsureyou

apart from that, what did/do the russians think about the movie?

  • @CookiesAndGaming my skype: nepars9 welcome

  • @Murkadios Dude, I don't care. I know you're fucking Russian, I'm just saying they dont teach Traditional Russian anymore, So you can not possibly know it.

  • @CookiesAndGaming and i saying that u saying absolutely bullshit. i know ALL about my country and ussr and about all languages which included in this, believe me

  • @Murkadios They don't teach like the soviets you twat.

  • @CookiesAndGaming shut up u mouse ashole, they saved money on the good translator, special for stupid cows like u.

  • @Murkadios Or soviet.

  • For a Scottish guy Sean Connery looks and sounds very Russian!

  • is this a type 941 Akula (Typhoon) or its my idea!!

  • K19 is the best american film about russian submarine.

  • This cold war American propaganda about glorious Soviet Navy, the greatest navy in the world. I watch this movie and laugh million times - good comedy no? Scot man play Russian captain but can not talk Russian properly. Big joke. May be he like to eat Haggas and not Dumplings yes?

  • @CUGS2009 You need to separate movies from real life, my man. BTW, Coyotes don't order most of their Roadrunner killing supplies from ACME, either

  • I am russian and I couldn't understand a word he said... and red october is spelled wrong. Sorry the movie overall is just ridiculous.

  • Prepare to shet shail.

  • It would be interesting to see a russian version of that movie.

  • sean connery is an wise man :-)

  • @Auszubildende

  • @velei1Don`t bother..Tom Clancy never really made any sense. The funny thing is - when he realized that some soviet weaponryémachines are better he just made up stuff.

This movie should be labelled ``for rednecks`only.

  • @Auszubildende

    -

  • @Auszubildende htt p : //q.foto.radikal. ru/0702/0a430762a36a.jpg

  • Man I miss those days.

  • It is very funny to listen Sean connery speaking russian xDD

  • greatest opening scene of any movie ever made!

  • im wearing that exact ushanka hat right now!

For me, the book is ten times better than the movie.

  • @Kastenpickert amen to that

  • @Kastenpickert of course it is fuck Alic baldwin

  • @Kastenpickert people always say that to sound smart though. The book isn't that much better.

  • @pigeonpsycho

look what ayanchowdhury47 wrote, and youre right, that is not his best book.

  • @Kastenpickert that's bcos your imaginative power is quite strong i.e. u can imagine the words of the book into a muv in ur mind. i also feel that way but its impossible to include all the details of the book in the film

  • @ayanchowdhury47

    Absolutely right!

It's just MY opinion. Imagine the movie would be exactly like the book, the film would be 5 hours.

    Kind regards Kastenpickert

  • @Kastenpickert if you liked this book.. Another Cold War Conflict Era Type book I read might interest you.. its called "Defcon One" by Joe Weber..
