Recently I learned that Luke Kelly died many years ago and then that Ronnie Drew had also died. Too much in any one day! Ronnie and Luke were the essence of what it means to be Irish......what a great loss.
I dispute your contention about Irish 'men' born outside the 'pale' - presumably meaning outside present day Dublin and Greater Dublin. If this were true it would be a dreadful accusation of prejudice to level on a high proportion of the Irish population. Happily it is simply not so.
Roonie Drew is a sad loss to all Irish people - Dubliners, Corkonians Belfast folk, black and white.
