I hated Tate for most of this series, I thought she was just playing most of her "comedy" shows characters but this ep she did grow on me a bit not much but a bit at least very good acting on her part

great review - i thought the episode was brilliant but with rose being my favorite character in doctor who, i think they could have brought her back in a better way - and ya didnt get to see what she had been upto atall during her disapperence into the parell world

Concerning Rose's return being an anticlimax: I thought that was kind of deliberately understated, and that is often more effective than just blatant drama. Like Kubrick, or Faulkner - they understated things a lot, used really simple dialogues to get across a world of emotion. It kind of worked in "Turn Left," too. Not as professionally. But still there.

they put in a nice reference: 1:57 - 2:15, you show both scenes with the whole "im nothing special" thing. remember in the runaway bride, the doctor TELLS donna that shes not special, and shes offended by it.

I'm for one am glad that Rose didn't have a big hoohaa of an enterence, and the episode remained about Donna, as the episode could have easily ended up being all about Rose, and even though I like her, this is supposed to be Donna's series...so good on RTD for doing that...Good review by the way :)

Billie was good in this episode. What are people on about her teeth for? Although they were awful in Doomsday and she was incredibly spotty as well. Anywho... Wilf is great. I also watched the stolen earth and he was even better in that episode.

why would the Doctor not run out in RUNAWAY BRIDE? Is he daft? THat makes no sense. Also: they should have shown some of the things they only talked about: sont ship destruction, deaths of Martha, Torchwood. Other than that it was good. Rose is a jerk in these: they should have NOT brought her back. Tate is GREAT!

Truecalling: the Doctor didn't run out of the flood because he'd just lost the most important thing he had, Rose, and then gone and finished off another race. I kinda wouldn't really have much of a will to live either.

And when you say they should have shown the deaths - they can't just throw footage around like that. For something that wouldn't take too long, they'd have to find whole sets, fix up special effects, and bring in a whole slew of actors an episode early. It wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks. I understand that but this is the hero of the show we're talking about. ANd the Doctor, who has killed MANY before including whole races and destroyed planets to save those he wants to save and if the novels and audios can be believed he even killed off Gallifrey more than once and destroyed planets that didn't deserve to be by mistake and all to kill alien killers. ANd he didn't just hang around to kill himself.

That's "Cloister" Bell. The sound of the Cloister Bell gave me chills because I can remember it from the original series (episode "Logopolis," the last one containing Tom Baker).

This is also not the first time the Doctor was "rescued" from an alternate timeline by Rose. Compare to "Father's Day" in Season 1.

i adore your blogs - they are so creative and funny! anyways, i loved this episode. like you, didnt notice rose's speech impediment. thought everyone acted very well, but this ep is set to be eclipsed by saturdays. dr who + torchwood = awesome!

I felt rose wasnt used well in this ep, but RTD did say the ep is about donna not roses return so yea like you say hopefully she'l be used better this week!
