Religious institutions are directly motivated to make things *worse* simply becuase it will force people to come to them for help. In enlightened societies churches have had competition from social safety nets; Backman and her ilk want to eliminate that.

Actually here in Australia our government responded to the crisis with a huge stimulus package; they borrowed a bunch of money and then just literally *gave* it to the old and the poor, over a grand in most cases.
We dodged the recession everyone else is sinking in (one of the only countries to do so) and the debt will be repayed (and our economy in surplus again) in a couple of years.
You might be right about why it'd be good to end the fed but check your other statements.

The money mostly lasted about as long as it took to get down to the shops, which is exactly as it was intended. The purpose of stimulus spending is to stimulate the economy by getting people to spend money. So you give them money and they spend it, it almost doesn't matter what on. This wasn't a random guess, it makes perfect sense if you've read any Adam Smith or Karl Marx or John Meynard Keynes; it's basicly what most of the world learned from the 30s
