Hi ! Can you please tell me what is the space between the dentents of the pattern ? and one thing the sizes of the bit (screw) you are using (diameter, wideness , angle) ..THANKS aand :))) what brand / model is it ...Thx
I needed that music like I needed a pain in the … Also despite looking high & low around my house I couldn't find a member of staff to check my set up.
Seriously though, it was a good demonstration & makes the whole business simpler than chisels & mallets
I was once a poor slob of a woodworker, but after this video with the dulcet tones of the vibraphone doing its magic on me, I am now a master craftsman. Other videas have taught me, but none have infused their power into my soul as this one has. I will be forever changed. I will also buy myself a vibraphone so I can inspire others.
is the porter cable 4210 capable of making full dovetails, or is it for half-blind dovetails? are all dovetail jigs capable of making full and half, or are they two different jigs?
I've been on the fence on whether or not to buy a jig. I wasn't sure how easily they were to use. This seals the deal, any advise on a specific brand and what to look for and watch out for when purchasing one?
I was always under the unsumption that this technique was actually called magpietail routeing. Thanks for enlightening me and making my life ever so much more complete.
Thanks SOOOOOO much! No one could seem to tell me how to use one! Only question that i have is how big of a joint that i might need to handle a heavy load (of say 80+ pounds of bees & honey). I can only assume a fairly larger joint; i am thinking that to create a larger joint, u must simply skip a joint or 2 in routing? I'm off to buy a dovetail!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Pamela
The block has been made by us so the students who are setting the machine up can get the depth correct each time. The bit goes out different lenghts depending on the angle of the dovetails. The precise measurments are available in the instruction manual. The forks go out a set distance that has been determined by the manufacturer of the jig. The video isn't a comprehensive guide to using the dovetial jig but more of an aide memoire for those who've been shown how to operate the equipment before.
PERFECT! You showed exactly how easy it should be. I have a jig similar to yours and it took me two trials (25 years ago) to get it. Of course we didn't have YOUR video to help then. You showed them buddy. And the joints fit so well you could be tempted to not even use glue (but I used glue). The shelves are still holding my laundry detergent on the wall. Good job. Very good.
Been hanging around several of my "Custom Trim/Finish Carpenter" buddies lately, and watching them do these over and over and still couldn't quite grasp the concept! Finally, (actually earlier tonight) I went on and pick up a PC Dovetail Jig at Lowes and came home to search a few vids...and BAM!!! I think....no....I KNOW that I have it now! Thanks!
LOL. I am in the same boat. In 5 minutes these guys did better then several hours of research. Just seeing it one time speaks volumes to someone who has not done it before.
ear defenders? Wow, this must be an old video, yet, very informative. Thanks for uploading.

What's the name of that jig? I looks like what I have been looking for a Jig that allows me to make the tails and the pins at the same time.

Ok, so what is a timber block??? How thick?? How far out should the bit be?? How far do the forks go out to in relation to the thickness of the wood??
Lots of questions everyone else seems to ignor.

I got it Sir!!
It's from "Take Hart", it's some old guy (Tony Hart) doing an art show and the music is from the gallery part. (Do I win anything?)

In one Tom. No you don't win anything. Just the honour of being the first one to come up with the answer. Well Done Mr J

You can't any idea how long it took me to find a video that was actually helpful on this topic, as opposed to selling me some new gadget. Thank you!
