Had it since '91 ....Being in a delirious state of stupor of sleep deprivation and hearing the music echo in my head ...drooped eyes and head doing the "sudden yank" thing like when you doze off on the school bus... yeah I stayed up hours on end with this one.
my parents got me this game for my 13th birthday in 1991 they got it one week after it's release date in early january of 1991 and there was coupon for a free personal pan pizza inside i didn't wait long ot use it haha good times! TMNT
0:07 Pretty impressive CGI for its time. I wish we could have seen more of Tora though. He looked like he'd be an interesting character to explore if he were in the comics or in the TV shows.
If I were the one with the Pizza Hut coupon, I would act like Shredder and ask for a Stuffed Crust pizza (which is my favorite.) I saw the exact same commercial except Michaelangelo appeared at the ending with 'TMNT II' for the Game Boy. I have all three TMNT games for NES. COWABUNGA!!!
@HavokOnePointZero Actually the game out sometime in January in 1991. On the commercial though it says the offer expires December 31st, 1991. How did she get 1994?
This commercial isn't accurate at all: There are actually LESS foot soldiers in the NES version than the Arcade, and there are no new moves. In fact there are less moves, in the arcade you could make Raphael do a rolling attack. You couldn't do that in this game. And why wasn't this game 4 player? NES had the technology at the time! And for the record the two new levels(and the two new villians) SUCKED. The only thing I liked was you could fight baxter stockman when he's in House-Fly Form.
@SpikeLanta The lack of it being four player has always bothered me ever since I found out NES was capable of four player. It seems as if the best games on the NES and SNES were only two player when it was very well capable of 4 player.
@osaji922 The NES hardware was incapable of handling 4 Turtles+ Foot Soldiers on-screen at the same time. It was hardware limitations that often resulted in multi-player coin-ops being downgraded to 2-player, or single-player NES ports. Same goes with Genesis and SNES...they were all seriously underpowered compared to coin-op hardware.
Nobody would trade their tmnt 2 carts with me. This was the closest experience you could get to the game that reigned at pizza parlors.... it was ...fucking incredible.
I wish they would put a bunch old TMNT games on one collection disc, like they did for Zelda or Sonic. At least with the acade games. I heard some games were added as extras for some newer TMNT games. But I want one disc soley for these games.
@DA8653 It's a good idea, but licensing is the main issue. Sonic can have a compilation as the character is owned by Sega and Sega is the one in charge of publishing. Zelda is owned by Nintendo and Nintendo is the publisher. That's the difference.
Yeah aside from the licensing for the game it's self which is actually fine hence it's re-release on the the new turtles games. You have to worry about removing the Pizza hut logos and change the music, the remakes of the arcade's especially for the music lose the feel and the removed pizza hut logo's weren't done well.
Man I remembered saving money for this game back in the day from my allowance and cutting the grass. Man I had a treasure when I bought this thx Nintendo for the great memories =)
Man,I don't know how many quarters I sunk into this game at the local 7-11 when I was a kid. Then it came home to the NES and I don't know which one I spent more of my childhood on, this or SFII.
I just bought this game a month ago unopened and got the coupon inside it. It expired in June 1994, but I took it to pizza hut anyway and still got one. Cowabunga dudes!
@JanettySupportTour That is so awsome , i would love to see the face on the person , when you took out the coupon , pure awsome, but we have to give credit to pizza hut for that = D
I bought this game from Walmart the day it came out. I actually called so they'd hold a copy for me, thinking they might sell out. I was 9 then; God, I'm old.
i dont know why everyone is bashing this game. TMNT 2 is a NES must have. this game was huge in 1991. u NES noobies have no idea. this was the next biggest release after SMB3. do u actually think people expected a 100% arcade port on a 8 bit system in 91? lol @ these comments. we were extremely grateful for tmnt 2 and it was very well recieved. i think i stayed in nintendo power top 10 games for 2 years straight. fuck the graphics this game was fun
Keeping in context, the NES game was rather good considering that the NES/Famicom was state of the art in 1983 (when the Famicom first debuted in Japan).
I mean, the NES platform was 7-8 years old when the NES port of TMNT 2 came out so you can't expect a perfect port of the arcade version, which came out in 1989 with far more advanced hardware than the NES.
The Irate gamer should've considered that fact. Instead, he only proved his ignorance.
I can't believe that the Irate Gamer had reviewed this game and said that "Flashy Intro Gone, Cool Graphics Gone, 4 Player Mode Gone Aw come on that was the best feature and we should call this as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 The Suck Ass Poorman Version Of The Arcade Game" Plus we could of had four player for the nes version as what konami had been thinking about. XD
I don't know what's with that Irate Gamer guy,"Cool Graphics,Gone" Well OF COURSE They had the Change the Graphics, the nes was 8-bit,There's no way the System could handle That Kinda of Advanced Graphics,They Try What they can to make it playable for the nes,And That's all that counts.
@Laynel8 have you played the game or just watched reviews? This was one of the cornerstones of my childhood everybody had a copy. Listen to the nerd not the wanna be gamer.
Then they would have had to downgrade the graphics even more. What they should have done was put the game on the SNES instead. I would have gladly waited an extra year or two if it meant getting a near arcade perfect port of the game.
@thenintendogamer Why? why do you need to be able to play with 4 people at once? What nes game has this ever been a pro of? Only one I can think of that was popular that had that feature was a nightmare on elm street. Everybody knows how good that pile of trash is. You can't use 4 people on Turtles in time nobody bitches about that.
turtles 4 was released b4 the multitap adaptor came out, and super RC pro am, gauntlet 2, superspike vball and nintendo world cup were good games for 4 player.and heeeeck no 4player was by far the best part of TMNT arcade, and had no excuse for not putting it on there. havin some friends over playin TMNT on the NES would be the shit. i especially hate konami for not putting it on TMNT3, the best of the NES trilogy.
@thenintendogamer The only way to keep it would have been to allow that port expander thingamajig. Not worth it. 2 people on screen at a time is fine. It isn't the arcade unless you have a big family you don't need 4 player feature.

LMAO, even the commercial showed the TMNT getting smacked around. The A.I in this game is so cheap that you can't even combo the foot soldiers or get in 3 hits without them smacking you across the screen. I suppose it quenched the hunger of those who wanted the coin-op in their home back in 1990 though.
Despite shamelessly promoting Pizza Hut, this was, and still is, an awesome game. And, to be honest, who can blame them? Pizza Hut has some of the best pizza around.
Part 1 is so under rated...it's actually really dark and follows the comic a lot closer. The Shredder battle at the end of TMNT is so epic as well, if you let him get near you you're dead in like two shots.
ok game, but the way i see it: TMNT 1: very underrated TMNT 2: Mediocre port, but good stand-alone TMNT 3: Awsome TMNT 4: Really Awsome Tournament fighters: Fair Hyperstone Heist: Very awsome Fall of the foot clan: Good Back from the sewers: great Radical rescue: Good Arcade: Really awsome
i didnt realise their was a turtles 3 & 4, unless your talking about that crappy Manhattan mutants & tournament fighters or what ever they were called
Had it since '91 ....Being in a delirious state of stupor of sleep deprivation and hearing the music echo in my head ...drooped eyes and head doing the "sudden yank" thing like when you doze off on the school bus... yeah I stayed up hours on end with this one.

"Two new levels", both out of place and with unnecessarily hard bosses.
"Packed it with Bigger and Stronger Enemies", making it more unbeatable.
"A ton of extra Foot Soldiers" ...yep.
"Knockout new attack moves" LIES!! There are LESS moves!
Besides that, it's an okay game... just not as awesome as the arcade version.
