  • OOwww if you ever change your mind and produce more of the 2 ended kind I would love to get one. Outstanding idea and execution. thanks, gregg

  • The tapered 2 ended tamper is a fantastic idea Steve to cover all pipe size eventualities in one tool. Great job.

    Alan

  • Hello Steve, Great idea and excellent in the execution. The small and large bowl feature is great. Good to see you mate. Cheers, Tim

  • Steve my good fellow you underestimate yourself, those tampers look splendid, stylish & ruggedly rural & remind me exactly of we talked about. Fantastic job.

    L&R Colin.

  • Hi steve a nice tamper there mate take care

  • they look lovely craftsmanship is only partly a born trait but mostly one of practice and frustration so dont be so hard on yourself

  • I have to say, that is a good design for a tamper. Big end and smaller end, very good indeed. That would be a good tamper for any of us pipe smokers, and whom ever you send them to they should be very well pleased my friend!

  • Ahhhh, much craftier than I assumed. I thought you grind down 10 -15mm of the antler to fit inside the .357 cases and then use epoxy to glue them on, and leave the "rustic" finish to the antler. You're doing a lot more work than that I see. The double ended idea looks good, but if wanted to use the cut of points you could make "budget" single ended ones too ;-) How many hours are there in a day?

  • @terryloveuk Terry, yes, that was my original cunning plan. I emphasise the Low Tech, which means grinding is just that for me ... a grind, especially with antler. What you call craftier, I call lazier, trust me. Although cutting the caps off those shells was a bugger!

Still, I'm glad you like the look of them, coz you'll be getting one soon! Then you can give me the bone fide critique!

    Steve

  • @TheEnglishmanSmokes OK, maybe you need a Dremel tool to take the grind out of it all. I look forward to giving it a try. BTW, I put the remains of my Germain's Royal Jersey Preique in the post to you today, it was that or the bin. It's been opened so, unless it's dried out too much, you can try the stuff before you crack your tin. If you don't want it, it can go in your bin as well as mine.

  • @terryloveuk Funny you should say that, because after the effort of this weekend, I've actually ordered a rotary tool (Dremmel too pricey for my budget) at my Dad's recommendation. So maybe things may get a little better in the future when my tech rating gets a bit higher.

And I still haven't opened my tin of Germains Perique, so I AM looking forward to it. You really are a gent!

    Thanks again Terry.

    Steve

  • @TheEnglishmanSmokes Well, like I said, if you don't like it, (or it's past it), one dustbin is as good as another...

  • you will be overloaded with work! honestly nice background by the way ( ;

  • @patrickthepipe Hmmm, I might have to subcontract the work to this clever bloke I know in Wales! And yes, I don't miss the dartboard one little bit. Clouds & Kingfishers. Much better. Thanks Pat.
