  • i love this song and i will sing it for my school concert

  • dislikes..?!?!?!? her voice is ANGELIC no doubt... wha? this ability to sing plows my refined ear drums to oblivion. please sing more of this for me.. i'll PAY!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw them here on tour a few years ago, and when they did this song, by the end there was not a dry eye in the house...

  • How can ANYONE hold and sustain that last note for 14 freakin' seconds!

  • i wish i could sing like her....

  • when she sings the wexford carol it sounds just like this

  • What a beautiful voice, so enchanting and soothing.

  • A few years ago my brother and I went to Ire. We travelled through the whole country, from east to the west, from nord to south. The most deepest impression came from the people themselfe. We met them in pubs, often during a whole night, they took us to places where music was the main thing. And all this represented a native music talence.

The wonderful singers in this tune don't make no exception. They are well educated gils and sons of a musically nation.

  • @mickifri2

what country are you from, dude? you're english is really weird

  • My choir is singing this song. I always cry during rehearsal because a friend of mine has recently passed on. RIP Jenna1994

  • i love how their voice creates the melody, the background music, the main music. its beautiful :)

  • at times sounds like you raise me up :D

  • @HarvestMoonGirl567 That's because "You Raise Me Up" was based on this melody, and they're both beautiful songs.

  • I am arranging this for women's chorus and I was wondering, should I keep the melody to the 1st sopranos, or let every voice part share it equally?

  • @Gryffindor8 share it. :) It's a beautiful melody, evereyone deserves a chance to sing it.

  • @ZakuroYondaime i agree!! and that way the Sopranos dont just get an easy job like always >: (

  • @dayanavh I wouldn't say Sopranos have it easy, they just get the pretty parts while the altos and such give the songs depth.

  • allway i hear this song , i start to cry ... its so damn great. Crying and smiling at the same time. I LOVE IT , T-T

  • Sorry partying

  • @firstclassfreak Me to but after that I want the Dublaners amazing grace so everybody knows Im still parting .

  • Yawn...

  • @TheGreekRebel Screw You!

  • The audience is wearing winter coats...you can see her breath, that she can sing so beautifully in such cold weather (And in strapless no less!) shows what an amazing talent she is.

  • @isarya6249...That's Ireland in August goes from hot to cold in the blink of an eye...

  • her voice in this song is different then the "Danny Boy" she sang for the first show

  • try 2hear the king singers

  • I get chills every time I hear this song. Especially when Meav sings it.

  • I sing this song to my babies at night. <3

  • @fieryfaeriefury Me too!!

  • In the beginning there was Meav and then Chloe. They sang in the most natural, inspirational way. Others studied music to emulate them, but they looked clumsy at best. Charlotte Church sounded just like a made-up singer beside them.

  • You can see her breath in places. How cold was it there, and she's in a sleeveless gown!

  • @ivyshoots.... It was very cold, but that is Irish weather in August....It was also rainy....it was said that doing an outdoor "concert" in Ireland is August is just asking for trouble...so what did they do they did another one in Ireland in July...I guess we are just gluttons for punishment...

  • @ivyshoots It gets cold in Ireland.....lol....if its cold enough to see ur breath I would guess its kinda chilly...they might be a little nippy....

  • I use to play this on the piano...

  • Her range is superb and seasoned. Very gifted woman and I will miss her.

  • I'm herering this tarditional song ,, that is in my mind, frm my heart,Thanks a lot!!!

  • I cried. Music has never made me crie before

  • Im a huge heavy metal fan, but listening to these women just let me realize that too much heavy metal will negate your view in life.. it's good to listen to these kind of music once in a while =)

  • @darknessphase

Forget the garbage you listen and come to the light.

  • @darknessphase That depends on which kind of Metal you listen too :) Symphonic Metal like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Leaves' Eyes etc. has often beautiful Songs as this and always great lyrics, even in the heavy Songs :D But of course you're right that Celtic Woman is absolutely amazing and beautiful :D <3 If you're interested, listen to some Sarah Brightman songs as well, she is my total favourite of all :D I can send you some links if you want to :)

  • @HigherHighSymphony can you send me those links? thanks

  • @darknessphase all aprecciate ur comment my friend.

  • '...And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me...'

  • Sie ist mein absoluter Favorit! Das Aussehen mag da mit eine Rolle spielen ... aber ich finde die Stimme so ... einfach so!

  • Louise Florence singing O Danny Boy at a benefit concert for Cystic Fibrosis, Ballinagh, Co. Cavan on 30th March 2011

  • Saddest song ever :(

  • @AdolescentTheory...No lip syncing...don't be fooled by a well known problem on You Tube...the audio and video get out of sync.

  • She looks wonderful in red.

  • This is amazing! I love them but can someone please explain the burning buildings in the back drop?

  • @AdolescentTheory wait... I get it. They are castles... WOW sorry

  • @AdolescentTheory The stuff starts on fire spontaneously due to their shear awesomeness...

  • she is a really really good singer

  • I remember seeing an episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog with song in it. :) Brings back memories.

  • The most stirring and emotional rendition I've ever heard. God shined when he gave the world the Celtic Women.

  • Oh, my highlands, Greetings Ronald

  • God, what a beautiful voice

  • hearing is believing. and with that you can put these on your mp player. they are soothing and bring a quality all their own. best to ya for an unbelievable song.

  • What do you know, a song written by a Brit who never even set foot on Ireland could be so moving.

  • Looks like I'm coming home when "Summer is in the Meadow" now.

  • voices of the angels

  • celtic women are totally awesome!!

  • Well she's certainly ruined that song for me. I just found out I've been listening to a bunch of hacks singing it.

I don't believe in a god, but after watching and listening to Meav, I must admit, I might have to reconsider the possibility that there are Angels.

  • @HugoBossUnzipped...Had to read your comment a couple of times to get the meaning right...and I must agree with you... And Yes there are angels among us...

  • Much better than their later, 2009 version, which, to me, sacrifices the emotion, to production.

  • @halloerde I agree. The group version is well sung, but they made it sound so cheesy.. I would have prefered that they just dropped it and choose another Irish song. You don't need to perform Danny Boy over and over to show that you're Irish.

  • @TheGeantrai they aren't trying to prove they're Irish, dear. they are singing it for their fans and for soldiers and for everything.. its not to prove anything. i mean, people do like to hear it a lot. i'm singing it for choir and i love it.

  • For my brother Danny, who passed away this Thanksgiving. He was named after this song. I miss him so much.

  • How does one thank these ladies for sharing the talent they have developed with us? This song has brought tears to my eyes at more than one Irish Funeral!

  • the harmonizing on 1:24 is so angelic, it made me tear up!

  • @rahuezo Goosebumps ;)

  • Estou rodando pelo apto, não encontro paz e descanso em paz em meu coração...

  • I had to preform this song on my flute the day my gradmother almost died a year later she died 12-11-2002 Christmas was her favorite Holiday Sept-28-1933 to Dec-11-2002 I Love you and will always miss her intill we met again Mema

  • :D i get to do this for choir! :D i convinced the teacher! :D

  • goosebumps all over......

  • i did this song for honor choir last night and every since we sang that song my dad has stop calling me worht less

  • @kirimikittykat that's rediculous that he would call you that ever!

  • I feel uplifted everytime I hear this song, especially when Meav's voice is there. Lovely!!!

  • En lo personal...la mejor interpretacion de Danny Boy.

  • @Lenthey...and the rest of us have the right to disagree with your opinion by giving it a thumbsdown....

  • @gaeilge101 yeah guess you're right ! :)

Should listen to a song by Korean crossover tenor; Im Tae Kyung. best version i ever heard, dunno if it's on youtube though!

  • I grew up to Irish music, though I live in Germany (my parents listened to it a lot). Hearing this always reminds me of my childhood.. most Irish songs are so simple yet beautiful

  • Meav's voice is so pure and calming...absolutely beautiful.

  • love them!

  • impresionante hoy las escuche por primera vez y me han hecho asta llorar de la emocion que voces mas hermosas dios mio me han dejado sin aliento, creo que no podre dejar de escucharlas, jeje, son fantasticas son increibles.

  • My son is Danny, and we don't have the best relationship. I cry everytime Ihear this. I hope someday he hears this from my heart.....

  • Real men cry...

  • the three 3 people who disliked this are crazy because that was stunning!

  • Such a beautiful song. Has such a rich history like the land it comes from and it's people!

  • I like the version she did at the Helix a bit better, she sounded better there. Understandable, since it was here very cold and that can make it harder to sing. Deep respect how she gives such a wonderfull performance :) She owns it. The current group version is lovely, but this is just... amazing :)

  • her voice is soo pure. i'm in a daze.

  • I love Maev!!!!

  • At 2:18 look at her teeth if her fangs wer any longer and sharper she could pass as 1 of dracula's hot wives

  • @Tristanm97 She can bite me anytime. She is gorgeous!

  • Makes me cry D': I'm writing books and my favorite character goes through just that, going away to war only to come back and find his love is dead.

  • She held that last note for 14 seconds...perfect pitch. is there anyone better?

  • Just simply amazing, this song is timeless and the lady classic!

  • The first time i ever heard irish songs was when i was flippin channels and came apon 'celtic women'. i was mesmorized by their beautiful voices and the songs are so beautiful and at times a bit heartbreaking that i will alwys be a huge fan of these talented women for life. God blessed these women with voices of angels.

  • i wish my voice was that good but until it is im stuck practicing in school chior ^_^

  • I have heard this old song all my life, by a wide variety of performers, but I never listened to it til I saw this PBS concert a few years back. I immediately bought the DVD and, though I've played it dozens of times, this song still gives me goosebumps. An absolutely remarkable voice. An absolutely beautiful lady.

  • Meav's range, tonal quality, and ability to hold the notes is absoulutelly incredible. And she is gorgeous looking at the same time. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • I always sing this in the shower. :D

  • @LuthienofOssiriand So do I... but I usually cry =,(

  • @LuthienofOssiriand STORY OF MY LIFE.(: haha

  • wow

  • I love Celtic Woman.....I want to buy the CD's to listen to all the time.....calming music perfect to fall asleep to....my godbaby loves it and falls asleep really fast when it's on the TV

  • That just makes me cry.

  • Has anyone ever read the book Tuck Everlasting? Because this song--for some reason--reminds me of it! Since it's talking about how Danny had to leave the one he loves behind and Jesse, in the book, has to do the same thing and leave Winnie behind. So when Danny comes back, he finds the one he loves is dead and (not to spoil the book for those who are reading it) Jesse finds that Winnie is dead. So I kinda thought this song reminded me of this book!

  • She sing's this song so well it makes you wish you where Irish.

  • Not to mant singers can sing this amazingly well and look so beautiful while doing it.

  • Meav's voice has a warmth and maturity than makes her my favorite Celtic Woman.

  • Améaving!

  • @SunriseShadow

Nice one, I like that! ;)

  • Maev is my favourite among all the Celtic Woman singers. She has the best quality of voice, from low notes to high ones. No one compares with her.

  • @benjiernmd - It's hard to choose, friend. But Meav IS a wonderful singer anyway ;)

  • I don't know about you but i think that Meav sings this song better than the other four.

  • @Theonehewsings53 I agree. I've heard Chloe, Alex, Lynn and Lisa sing this and it doesn't compare at all. It's replaced You Raise Me Up as my favorite Celtic Woman song

  • @rayrobinz I absolutely agree... Not that the new version is bad, but Méav owns it.. She makes it moving and gives that little emotion what is required. The new version is, not meant as disrespectfull, mawkish...

  • @TheGeantrai I fully agree with you Meav owns this one. As much as I like the other renditions by CW, this is my fav version. And although I like some of the other girls better (not by much mind you; it's so difficult because I love them all), Meav truly shines on this song.

  • Eh...give me the choir.

  • Me parece que estas cantantes vienen de otro planeta...cantan hermoso,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • the first time i heard this song i had goose bumps all over my body and now i still have and i listen it over and over. She has a great voice. And all the songs are great but i have some favorits like spanish lady, at the Ceili, Caledonia. It is a great surronding too with the castle in the background.

  • Meav is so beautiful

  • Ella me gusta

  • Meav, no doubt, is talented and wonderful. Her voice and the way she can sing in any, ANY style really makes her appeal to all. I love her "Newry Boat Song" and "The Dark Haired Girl" best of all her solo career songs.

  • Meav has the best voice among the celtic woman group, the timber, the range, she is definitely my favourite, though I like them all.

  • @benjiernmd *timbre

  • I love this vid! So relaxing

  • I love it !!!

  • i prefer this version over celtic thunder

  • That was really nice how she held out her hand to acknowledge the choir.

  • How is it that this is not the very most mostest popular band in the world!?? I don't get it...

  • @ThingsMarchBrings i think their not well known. they didn't sell out to the mainstream music world. this is real music and the world seems to abhor realness.

  • @ThingsMarchBrings me either

  • @ThingsMarchBrings not entirely sure here, but maybe it's because the song is usually sung by a guy.

  • @ThingsMarchBrings Diamonds are rare! :)

  • what a beautiful singer. Lynda, Orkney.

  • This is WAAAY better than the "Songs from the Heart" version!

  • With all due respect to Meav, who sang this brilliantly on her own, I'd be hard-pressed to find any other version of 'Danny Boy' sung better than the one sung on Songs From the Heart. You don't like singing if you don't like that rendition.

  • I do like that version, but this has a better emotion. If you've ever loved someone in the Army, this version touches like nothing else.

  • Heh, I would disagree with that too, but it definitely looks like you have your own reasons for your opinion! I do think Meav is incredible - the way she hits those high notes is unreal. Great song, Danny Boy.

  • Yeah, I guess it just depends on what the song really means to you.

  • 3:05-3:21!!!! AMAZING!!! 2:41!!-AMAZING as well!

  • meav is unbeliveble

  • I am Orange Irish and proud of it! :)

    I love you, Meav!

  • I'll bite. What the heck is an orange Irish?

  • The main colours of Ireland, referring to the divisions of Church. Green being Catholic and orange Protestant. That being said, I'm Protestant.

  • I see. I'm just half Irish, so guess that makes me pastel Irish.

    Thanks!

  • pastel?

  • @LuthienofOssiriand: i just recently found out i'm of Irish decent on my mom's side(i'm an american, obviously) and i was so excited because i always loved Ireland anyway! I love Celtic Woman even more now, lol!..i'm also Protestant so thanks for that tid-bit more of info! :D

  • Meav has always been my favorite. I didn't even like this song very much until I heard this version of it.

  • wow

  • Flawless!

  • Iam going to sign this for my sign language class I hope that they enjoy it

  • If there was one song I could choose play at my funeral, this would be it without a doubt.

  • WOW I happened on to this music by accident. If these ladies don't make your blood rise your dead. This clearly the best rendition of Danny Boy,I've had the pleasure to hear. Flat out excellent.

  • i'm singing this for a vocal concert...there is no freakin' way i can sound this amazing but i'll do my best! =) ha. love this song.

  • love the song and the singers. all Celtic woman sings beautifully. love this video,...thanks you tube for sharing.

  • Always remembers me of a young soldier who has to go to war and leaves his family : (

  • @wimpous: that's exactly wut it is, haha! a father wrote this for his son who had just left for war.. :)

  • hmm

  • what?! it just suddenly muted while i was listening

    TwT
