You can tell it's old-- it seems to blend in to the background.
US 50 does so even better. I'll bet parts of it are even older than the Michigan Road-- an Indian trail perhaps, or a road between Cincy and Vicninnes around 1800.
Almost all of the Michigan Road still exists and you can drive the route with only minor detours today! The biggest disruption is that about 3.5 miles of I-74 was built on top of the Michigan Road. There are older roads in Indiana, but the MR is significant because the State funded it.
