  • A question for you Dom, just bought a mb10 (a copy) feels quite sturdy, hooks well, but still scared to mount my d700 to a tripod with my 24-70, or 70-200mm (Nikon).

Do you own a copy or the original and did you try hooking it to a tripod?

Compliment then a question, cheesy, but not planned :)

  • @dukoduli i do have the original mb10 battery, i put it on the d300 and d700 all the time when shooting sports or weddings. but usually handheld. If shooting with the 70-200 the tripod is attached to the lens not the camera body so no worry for me there.

  • Really great no nonsense advise, fantastic quality lens combination. There are photographers out there with 5 times more expensive gear out there, not nearly as good photos as this guy's..

    RESPECT

  • I agree with martenfisher1 post, Dom Bower is a practical person. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get those great shots. It's the person behind the camera that captures the moment, not the cost of his/her equipment. Clients don't care about how much a photographer spent on their equipment, all they want are the best results possible. I won't call gear "cheap", I rather say inexpensive better yet getting gear second hand is always a good thing. Cheers Dom!

  • i love fujifilm, such an underrated company

  • That's exactly what your clients want to hear I'm sure - how cheap all your gear is... The gear you use to shoot the most important day of their lives! wow.

  • @Shifty2031 i dont associate price with quality. the lenses i have are all top quality but I am not daft enough to pay the top prices for them. Also my clients dont look at the gear I use, but more the images I make, the professionalism I have, and the quality I produce, and book me for that. My clients are not my youtube subscribers.

  • @Dombowerphoto Can you post a link of the high quality images you've shot with your cheaper lenses? Can you also do a test for dynamic range using more than one other camera? Saying a the Fuji has unsurpassed DR when you've only tested it against one other camera is quite frankly embarrassing.

  • @stubones sure here is a link blurbdotcom/bookstore/detail/2215491 or alternatively check some of the 500 videos i have put on line as you will see some of the clients i have worked with.

However, if you need me to prove to you that high quality images can be shot with great (but cheap or second hand) lenses then clearly you need more than just some links proving so.

  • @Dombowerphoto Cheers :) I know great images can be shot with cheaper lenses, I wasnt questioning that as such. I just want to see some of your work with this kit. I had a 50mm 1.8 and it can produce some good sharp, contrasty images, but its built like a Chinese toy. My 35 1.4 OTH is built like a rock and costs 12x the price. You know not everyone is going to agree with your opinions, but photography is very subjective and emotive as we know... its good to debate :)

  • @Shifty2031 clients go by work shown not equipment prices because that's not there expertise they go by what they can see. Witch will always be the photography way

  • Are u planning on doing an other one of these now that u have all that Canon gear?

  • Have you sold the D300S, Dom?

  • Dom, have you tried the 14mm samyang superwide?

  • @arubaforever not yet, wanting to get it for the canon 5d mark ii but not heard great reports regarding its distortion

  • Dom -- I had the sigma10-20--liked it---whats youre thoughts on the sigma 8-16 nonfisheye ?

  • Hi guys :) I've been taking pictures since I was 11 years old.

I just made a youtube channel of all my work and I have my own website and facebook page. Ive been trying so hard to put my work out there. my dream is to be a National geographic photographer.

It would mean so much to me if some of you would maybe subscribe to me! Thanks, so much!

  • whats your websites name

  • Dom, what happened to the Tokina 11-16? Consider buying it next as my first UWA lens, but before I bite I kinda wanna know why you don't have it anymore. Focusproblems? Unsatisfied with its picture quality?

    Hope you answer me :)

  • Dom, what happened to the Tokina 11-16? Consider buying it next as my first UWA lens, but before I bite I kinda wanna know why you don't have it anymore. Focusproblems? Unsatisfied with its picture quality?

  • Dom which one is better tamron 28-75 samyang 85mm 1.4 or a tamron 70-200 2.8 for portraits and all around lens???

  • I like the sliding text

  • Nice work dom!

  • @Dombowerphoto I noticed that someone already asked you, but i see that he still didn't receive an answer... so i'll ask you too :) What happened to your tokina 11-16? From what I know, you could've used it for your D700 too (in case you needed 15mm @ 2.8).

  • Oh, i'm such an idiot :)). The 11-16 is on the camera you're filming with, isn't it? :))

  • @Kain987 yep

  • Strange my last post didn't post. We're do you guys in America find second hand lenses? I was looking for a 70-200 VRII and they are less than a couple hundred dollars cheaper than new. It's not worthy it to me to go used for 200 in savings. Thanks

  • The one aftermarket lens I have been thinking about is the Tokina 11-16. I heard it was pretty amazing. Have you tried it Dom or anybody else? I like the fact that I can put my slide in filters on it. The Nikon has the built in lens hood making filters expensive to use on it.

  • When I was searching for a second hand 70-200 VRII they were selling for only slightly less than the new ones. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place or the lenses just hold their value. If I could save 600 like Dom I would go for it but to save 100 to 200 isn't worth going used for. Such a small savings in relation to the cost of the lens I would rather get new. Am I just looking in the wrong places?

  • great video :)

  • Your Honest opinion on Tamron Dom.... How do you rate that brand?

  • @technosesh not that great. Very cheap feeling lenses. But they are cheap

  • @Dombowerphoto well they are lol... but apart from the physical aspects... do they take good pictures for a beginner?

  • @technosesh no, impossible, no tamron lens has ever taken a good photo. I do know some photographers who have taken good photos though.

yes they will be perfect. if you read my book about getting started in photography you will see that almost all lenses are good enough these days

  • @Dombowerphoto Thank you Dom :)

  • Dom, where do you buy your second hand lens from?

  • @yoursilentstorm check my blog you will find the answers there.

  • I think I speak for a lot of viewers when I say the great thing about Dom Bower is that he's a professional photographer who actually understands that getting the biggest, most expensive equipment won't make you a better photographer. He has equipment that suits his needs and helps him get the results he wants.

  • Hey Dom I noticed you said something about a filter on your 70-200. What filter do you have on it? As far as Jared I don't think he is being snobby, he is just saying buy the best you can afford because as we all know the glass is where the quality is, not so much the body. I have kit lenses now but am close to being able to afford the Nikon 24-70 and after that the 70-200 VRII. A lens will be with you for a long time and they hold their value. Just put a little money away each month and get i

  • @Uscbryan949 indeed if i could afford the nikon 24-70 i would, it is next on my list but just because it is the best i can get doesnt mean i am going to pay the top price for it. i will shop around for a second hand version and wait until it comes available

  • When you say words like "good" - sounds quite Scottish to me. But what do I know. I'm American. We all talk funny over here.

  • wow dom, im surprised most of your gear is second hand, off brand, well i guess since photo gear is so expensive its worth shopping around. but the thing is that your work makes me think you have all top price gear but you have lenses price around $200 or so except for the father trinity lens.

  • @jh3835 definitely get the best gear but dont pay the highest price. the big 70-200 i saved £600 by buying that second hand! and the other lenses are optically brilliant so i am finding it very hard to justify the need to upgrade items such as the nikon 105mm and the tamron 28-75.

  • how did u keep the text moving with the camera? did you have to edit every frame in post to get that effect?

  • I definitely thought you had a scotish accent.. :-(

  • and all of this was shot on a Canon body, probably with a Nikon lens.

    Love your video's Dom.

  • @ZagatoZee think it was the Tokina 11-16

  • I have a D90 and the my main lens is just the 55-105mm it came with. I use it more then the 105-200 but i would love to get my hands on say a 55-105 in a quality brand rather then just these kit lenses. Any recommendations Dom on a good all rounder for the d90 I do mostly close up pics and want massive detail .. cheers

  • Nice video!

  • awesome bag Dom!

  • What happened to the 300s?

  • @Olphus not in the video and its a D300.. read the description.

  • hey dom not trying to be rude.. but you should change your 'dom bower photography' logo! :) you may have a better one! throw in a contest and see what works better! :)

  • Now, ok! Cool video, Mr.Dom!!

  • 1 Dislike by an Canon User! :)

  • show off! :)

  • where is your D300???

  • So that's what's IN you bag, but what bag(s) do you actually use? I use a camera backpack at the moment but am in the market for a new shoulder bag and need some ideas (I don't have as much gear as you though).

  • @liquidsprout thinking i need to get a new bag the one i have just now really doesnt hold much of my gear. will do some shopping for some new bag kit soon

  • This is the BEST ... "whats in your bag video " EVER!!!!!!

  • This video should be done much earlier! I was always wondering how many flashes do you have. Now I know. I think I'm going to get an another 580 EX II.

  • HAHAHAHA love the sound effects HAHAHAHAHAA BOINNNNGGGGG!!!

  • sound effects were funny. especially on the flashs. XD

    nice set of lenses dom!

  • Nice vid...

  • Dom Bower is practical. I get depressed watching Jared Polin because I feel like I have to spend so much money to get the pictures I want that photography for me is more of a waste and makes me not want to do it anymore because life does not allow me to afford anything. When Dom Bower came along I learned much more common sense and now I am getting equipment and taking much better pictures. I even bought a fuji. Thanks Mr. Dom you are super duper. You make photographer so much more a reality.

  • @martenfisher1 thank you very much, that has made my day

  • @martenfisher1 i like both, but jared accent is much easier to handle. scottish is a little bit annoying in the lenght.

  • @andykbh u think I have a Scottish accent?

  • @Dombowerphoto what is it then? british?

but very nice equipment. i want those flashes!

  • @andykbh Not a heavy accent at all. Very clear.

  • @andykbh funny.. i disagree, i find that after i while Jareds loud "enthusiastic" voice gets a bit overbearing and slightly annoying, whereas i find Doms voice to be nice to listen to (i like British/scottish/Europeanish accents :P )

  • @martenfisher1 just be patient, if you are new to photography, yes it will be expensive to start. im subbed to jared as well and yes he can be a jerk at times. but he means well. he has been in the business for about 15yrs so it took him a long time to build his photo kit. the cool thing about photo gear is that if you buy good gear and take care it, it will hold its value. and when it is time to buy new gear you can trade up and you dont have to pay that much for new gear.

  • @martenfisher1 For the types of photography Jared is into, having a d3s and expensive glass really pays off. You can't blame the guy for wanting the best tools. I do, however, agree with you from time to time that I love seeing what Dom is able to do on a budget. I don't think d700 and 70-200 2.8 is very cheap either. :)

  • @eirjep my advice here is that none of it is cheap but buying stuff second hand is totally acceptable. buy the best but dont pay the top price.

  • @Dombowerphoto That´s my point exactly. Buying at discounts and second hand is the way to go if you want better equipment faster. Most pro gear is practically indestructible so I don´t worry when I buy second hand pro equipment.

  • @martenfisher1

'Froo Knows photo' wants to sell camera gear for Allan camera, credit to him for some great videos, while Dom is not adverising anyone...

I especially like the no BS the video about the d800.,

Nikon want get 3 grand of me for substitute my d700..Now, or at least in a few months is the time to get a d700 if you dont own a full frame yet...

  • The sound effects made me chuckle. Glad you have a Fuji. I have a soft spot for Fuji as it was the brand I bought my first two cameras when I wanted to get into photography. (a. Compact. b. Bridge Camera) My latest purchase was a Nikon D90, so glad to see you being Nikon guy too.

  • i wish i had these.... so frikkin baddd

  • Love the video, I think the sound effects work great!! :-D

  • The brevity was brilliant. Can you share the equipment you used to create the panning effect (tracks? wheels?)?

  • Dom, would you recommend getting a fuji s5pro or a Nikon D7000 ?

  • @argmax11 Get the D7000. Sure the body on the S5 is a little more pro, and Dynamic Range is better from ISO 200-800, the rest of the sensor performance is a bunch worse and it is a really slow camera (to save pictures, review pictures, burst rate, getting through the menus, etc). The fact of having much better ISO performance is going to help a lot.

  • @argmax11 i would go with the d7000 because its better, overall. The fuji isnt good in High ISO and its just old.

  • @argmax11 If you ask me I would go with the D7000.

  • Dom, didnt you have a Tokina wide angle lens?

  • LIke the video, like the panning, but hate the sound effects. Thanks.

  • I think this may be your most popular video......everyone loves a good "what's in my bag" video..or at least i do lol. very nice gear i gotta say and a good video explaining everything

  • Do you use any drybox?

  • i think this will be one of your most popular videos, everyone loves these "what's in my bag" videos.....or just me at least lol nice gear though.

  • I really like the animation! well done dom, :) it is suitable for CBBC channel as well

  • THE SOUNDS ARE GREAT! :D

  • Very nice editing

  • Sound effects? Really?

  • @alipaulphotography amazing arnt they!

  • @Dombowerphoto O hi. Let me whip out my big lens *booooing!*

  • Glad you said the Tamron 28-75mm is good looking at picking one up soon, dont fancy spending about a grand on the Canon 24-70mm. Do you have any reviews or anything up on the Tamron..?

  • @AlTyler138 done a lot check the blog and click on the lable for 28-75

  • @AlTyler138 I use the Tamron 28-75mm on a canon 5d mkII as my main walk around. It's the walk around because of the focal length. It's excellent sharpness, light and works nice. I recommend. The reason I would like the canon 24-70 is only for the extra a the wide. That's why I you need something extra for the wide.

  • Where is the Tokina?

  • @skiptomylou84 on the camera that is fliming this video

  • @Dombowerphoto I assume shot with the 550D as well.

  • Get a pelican 1560, u cant go wrong

  • Good to see you making use of the glide track and Ren & Stimpy sound effects.

Great equipment and nicely edited Mr Dom
