The film was done when people still had low levels of technology in relation to us. Without GPS, without cell phones, no internet, no satellite TV, without computers in cars, etc. Just imagine today. Russia is no more threat. But only a terrorist to detonate primitive nuclear device in the major financial centers, conroles of energy distribution and comuncacoes, it would be sufficient to bring the world to collapse.
Is the knife after the farmer i shot a hint at cannibalism? Never noticed it as a kid watching. But this time round and after "The Road" seems kinda clear.
@jmossinca Fallout doesn't spread that quickly when there are little to no winds to carry it. The rancher was liklely many tens of miles away from the impact zone or the effects are delayed and will appear as radiation sickness later on. It isn't always clear that you are damaged in the short term.
It's really a well made, well acted well written movie, but I just can't watch more than 5 minutes of the fucking thing, since sitting through the whole thing the first time. I feel a pang of guilt, like I'm not doing justice to the great work of the filmmakers. But I just can't do it.

My only continuity question: Where did they find horses that hadn't succumbed to fallout, like the cattle and other farm animals?
