@ExtremeJeffEnigma It is a rod that is also called a Ferrosium rod, when you scrape it with a hard edge that is high carbon steel, there is a reaction that creates the sparks.
The rolling boil is more of a visual signal to let you know it's purified. You don't need to boil for several minutes (only @ altitude). Great videos though, keep'm coming mate : )
@flipster12000 Look closer my friend, I'm not striking it with the knife edge. The Fallkniven has a sharp edged spine made just for striking a firesteel. That is what I am using as a striker.
Thanks - Dave is a good friend, when ever he asks me to come out I do my best to make it - it is a 4 hour drive to get out where he hangs in the woods, but it is always worth it.

Would that trick work with a single, charred stick? Or do you need 2 charred pieces of wood for that to work?.
