The funniest part to me about the person who complained she was destroying her voice singing this easy role at 19 is that the original Barbarina was 12 years old (and 17 when she debuted Pamina)
the first Barbarina in 1786 was played by an actress who 5 years later had been charged to sing the first Pamina so a gentle lyric soprano voice is really enough to sing it well
How do you figure her voice is destroyed? Barbarina is totally appropriate for a 19 year old to sing...she just happens to be a very talented, lucky 19 year old who is singing it at the Met! and then later Cleopatra at 25 at Glyndebourne! Trust me I am jealous but she deserves it!
My singing teacher says that women can start singing at 15 and men at 17, so I don't agree with you! Also, check Carlotta Gomiero, she is 25!Also, two italian doctors last week said that they made a research and found out that Callas died from a mascular disease that effected her vocal cords and the lost of weight, and one of the affections of the medicines was the heart attack, so, unfortunately this happened to her. Also, Onassis died some years later by the same disease!
For the record, this very same production (by Jonathan Miller) was first unveiled in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in May of 1991 with this splendid cast. It was released on video by SONY and is now long overdue for rerelease on DVD.
Now that I think about it though, this act would have ran WAY too long. The Met puts the first and second acts together and then the thrid and fourth. It's shown in this clip as there is no break.
I must say, however, that this is amazing that a 19 year old made it this far. This is practically the top house alongside LA in the US.

Is there any reason why "Il capro e la capreta " was skipped in minute 4.52? It's such a beautiful area, and it smooths the long recitativos..

Let's skip half an act worth of arias so la Bartoli could shine :-)

Danielle Di Niese alternated the role of Susanna during this season's run of "Figaro" at the Met.

@Villainesse She also won an Emmy and 16! I am so jealous to

@Villainesse Its just that the quality of her voice promised at this age has diminished so in the past couple years.

Btw, the title is spelled L'ho perduta, not "Lo".
Isn't she amazing here at only 19?

Yes - she was only 19 here! And she was fresh from Australia where she studied until she got into the Met programme! Amazing!

it is the top house in the ENTIRE WORLD!

Thats a rather bold statement. I imagine Tetro alla Scala, Covent Garden, Opéra Bastille, Berlin, and a few others would beg to argue that point.
Though I'll concede they're the best in the US.
