Hey, Warren! I definitely remember the name "Dinky"....I really didn't know what models were being referred to. I thought they might be American, but from your display it looks like they were British only...no American makes represented. Great collection! I have lots of Tonka stuff. :) Jack
@raconter1 Jack, yeah, the trucks are mostly British makes although GM did produce the Bedford truck. I love Tonka, Buddy L, etc. but too large for me to collect space wise. Thanks for viewing just one part of my collection of diecast models.
had to dig through a few boxes...youre right, according to my book "history of the british dinky toyes 1934-1964" by cecil gibson...skimming the background the french factory was operating at the same time. not to slag the french, well not this time, i prefer the british products without the moving parts, plastic windows. its my age, i guess. cant see any mention of horses at a glace. ill look at the book more closely....the book is now falling apart, so its slow going. cheers.
nice stuff.....i have about 3 dozen dinky toys-mostly military. when i was in australia about 30 years ago, i spotted a book called "history of dinky toys." its a great reference.....im going to see if it says anything about horses with the horse box model. the street sweeper looks like it was issued after the french bought out dinky. nice, but to my thinking, not a REAL dinky.
@loflyerz7 I like those military Dinkys also. Let me know about any horses that might have come with the horse box truck. Also, I don't think a French firm took over Dinky. I believe that French Dinkies were a branch of the English company. I never heard of the French buying out Binns Road. I could be wrong. I think I have the book you are thinking of getting. Great stuff in this book. Let me know about the horse with the horse box truck and if I am mistaken about the French.
