I am an African- American female in my early 30's. I am breaking out more now that I did as a teenager especially within this last year. I have been hearing lately that my adult acne could be cause because of my "hormones." Is this true? I do eat a nice amount of sushi though could it be the iodine? Help me please.
I slept with my makeup repeatedly in the past. OH, how I regret it now! I will continue to watch your videos for tips on how to combat this war against adult acne. SIghhhh. :(
i have a question regarding consuming iodine.. japanese people are known to have seaweed as part of their staple..but also they are one of the people with the best skin in the world..how is this possible?
@arshenry Hi! I'm asian and I can attest to how much the japanese LOOOOVE to take care of their skin. Plus their genes. So when the only factor that's going to cause them to break out is their ingestion of seaweeds that's got nooothing against their rigorous consistent skin care.
The American Institute Of Advanced Medicine can help! They have over 25 years experience and over 90% success rate for a varity for skin disorders including cystic acne check out theaiam.com their protocols really work!!
Their medication is FDA approved with no side effects! ** Not a scam!
I'm a University student... My break-outs are usually caused by stress and lady problems (around that time of the month). Every time when I almost have clear skin, some thing like a major assignment triggers another break-out... Do you have any good tips on how to prevent this kind of break-outs? =)
I have a pimple infeted forehead!! please help.. Im currently using Retin a mircro 1 %. it works perfectly on my cheecks and chin but not on my forhead. my forehead tends to grow cyctic pimples and currently have alot. my cheeks are smooth and little pimples but not my forehead.. please tell me on how i can reduce the redness of my forehean pimples.. and what can i do maximize the benefit of my retin a which only seems to work on my cheeks and chin, but not my forehead?
@jhermano02 try Duac (or another similar prescription benzoyl peroxide + clindamycin topical gel). I had the SAME exact issue as you, the forehead bumps & breakouts, and Duac in the morning plus Atralin (prescription retinoid) in the evening worked wonders for me. This combination is the only thing that's worked. My whole face is glowing and clear, and I hardly get pimples anymore, period (even during PMS; I might get one, but for instance this past month, I didn't get a single spot). Try Duac.
so i have a question, what about pillow sheets? if i use a towel to cover my pillows and use a clean towel / clean side every night will this prevent break outs?
@JYPSugoi towels are rough... i really just bought more pillow cases for mine and change them every 2 nights, 1 pillow case is good for 2 nights (one side per night when flipped)
i had a question about putting on moisturizer. since we are suppose to avoid rubbing our face as much as possible, are we suppose to pat on our moisturizer? i've seen several people do this but is it the proper way to do it? i feel as if the moisturizer isn't soaking into my skin as much as it would if i rubbed it in.
I am 22 and I had never had acne. But my skin is breaking out now and every morning I have a new spot. I don't know how to treat it because I do not have oily skin, in fact, I have psoriasis on my body. I use a soft cleaner and a light mosturizer, and also a product to apply right on the spot, but it's been a month and it still won't improve. What should I do? Please, I really need you help.
wow well that's just great. I've been suffering from borderline severe acne and the only meat I eat is fish. Lobster, crabmeat, shellfish, fish, and I also eat tons of spinach and seaweed in sushi and other foods. -_- i'm probably overflowing with iodine all the time.
@luffy3: Great question. I actually explain it in another episode titled, "Acne 101: Acne Causes". I unfortunately can't provide links in comments on YouTube, but if you use the search box, you should be able to pull it up.
@HJGUSBUSAG: The good news is that you don't have to stop eating spinach. It only means that if you eat a lot of spinach and you're breaking out, it may be the iodine in the spinach (the only food ingredient proven to cause acne) that is the culprit. In that case, try curtailing your spinach consumption and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, then it's probably not the spinach causing the acne breakouts.
hi Dr. can you please talk about the PERSONAL MICRODERMABRASION SYSTEM! thanks

When you say touching your skin will "thicken" it, do you just mean it will add more debris to your pores,?

Dr.,
Could eating very salty foods(which have iodised salt)
cause breakouts? Would this be considered a diet high in iodine?
amused2deathh 1 year ago
If daily rubbing thickens the skin, doesn't the same apply with exfoliating every day ? :/
Aeisihtirmalakes 1 year ago
Should I switch to non-iodized salt? Or is that not the same?

@11Branx If the paper towel is clean and you are gentle, it should not.
