Later they realeased in japan Super mario U.S.A what was dokie dokie panic but with mario figures in it. So they took a old game & put mario in it what was called in America mario bros 2 :p

@Ragtime4 actualy this mario was a complete remmake of another game that had nothing to do with either. why it was turned into mario is a mystery but i guess people just came to accept it. the real one was supposed to be The Lost Levels bt not sure why

@weewoozesty the lost levels was not released in the USA or Europe as super mario 2 as they thought it was too hard four our audiences, thats why the game (Doki Doki Panik) came to be super mario 2. It later came to light there was a different super mario 2 to the one we came accustomed to, and therefore was released as the lost levels.

@weewoozesty The original Japanese version, Doki Doki panic, was designed by Shegeru Miyamoto and with music by Koji Kondo. In addition to having such heavy influence from the creators of the original Super Mario Bros, it was also a platformer, and in my opinion translated very well to becoming a Mario game. From what I read, they felt the original Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels) was too difficult for American gamers.
