Never take solder to the joint via the iron. Apply the iron to the joint & then the solder. Don't leave the iron on the joint for longer than necessary. NEVER rely on solder to bridge gaps as wide as that. In time they may become unreliable. Always use some wire to make connections between points - don't rely on solder to do it. You've just seen an example of how not to solder. It's a wonder the board still worked! Also there was no indication as to the purpose of all this.
You have to admire the self-confidence of someone that bad at soldering to put the vid online. I would just be _so_ embarassed! I guess he doesn't realise.
OMG!!!!! I totally used this video when i got started!!!!! thx!!!! Dude, USB black cat is ssooooooooo much better, i'm inlove wth mine!!! you should touch up your soldering skillz ;) Thx for calling me stupid on my debrick commands....cheers
bro sbh usbjtag is better i first bought the serial jtag slow as heel the blackca usbjtag . now im and running with sbh usb jtag my sbhjtag flashes in les than one minute i have uploaded the boot and the firmware . diffrent programs but when your familiar with the commands . its easy as pie. :)
25w is MORE then enough. If you need flux you dont know how to solder or your tip temp is so hot your vaporizing the rosincore before it can do it's job. Rosin core has the flux in it which is more then enough for quality joint.
if he can solder like that I bet I would not have any problems. I have the SB5101 and I bought it from a guy for 50 bucks, he already made the mod now I now how to do it and I will do it! But i don't need to... so I keep using this one and everything should be fine.
First, lose the butane iron. That might be great for working on a few wires on your car but it has no place near a printed circuit board. Second, do one pin at a time. Do not touch more than one pin at a time and give some time for the board to cool down between pins. You can see the board turning dark from being burnt by too much heat. If the solder clumps up, then you overheated it or didn't use any flux/rosin to help the metal flow.
step 3 - connect the blackcat cable, step 4 - wtf, reconnect the blackcat cable, step 5 - throw the modem away. step 6 - learn to solder. step 7 - buy another sb5100. step 8 - solder the 10 pin header without completely destroying the jtag interface. step 9 - connect the blackcat cable.

Soldering tips:
1: Use a 30 - 45 watt soldering iron
2: Use flux (Kester is best)
3: Apply solder while Heating the connector tips
4: Never forget too much heat can damage the PCB connections.
