Mozart's brilliance simply overshadowed many of his more than capable contemporaries like: Paul Wranitzky (1756 - 1808), Josef Mysliveček, and Adalbert Gyrowetz for example, or Ignaz Pleyel, Christian Cannabich and Leopold Kozeluch, et al. It is worthwhile to listen to their works. Mathias Bamert should be congratulated for bringing back variety into 18th century music.
At first heearing his name i generally become disgust, mostly do to how he portrayed in Amadeaus, but he is a very strong composer, his notes note excessive or complicated but yet strong in a picture portraying strenght, integrity, and a strive for victory
@EdgySesshomaru In fairness, the movie introduced us non-experts to Salieri, so we'd (or at least, I'd) want to know more. A great service! For that matter, the movie didn't portray Mozart so nicely either.... but boy is the score of that movie ever beautiful.
poor salieri, he can not dance..... and there is also a strange mood of nationalism around these variations, i don't know how to explain, like an idealised italian landscape with, seen from far, very honorable and honest peasants, doing there dance between the mountains and the woods... .. ... really not my thing; but anyway thanks for posting
Many composers did variations on this theme, but I feel Salieri's is the best. It seems very modern to me.
This recording is the latest and probably only one available today. But 20 years ago I purchased a cassette of this piece that was performed by the London Symphony under the direction of Zoltan Pesko in the late 70's. I must say the older recording is superior to this one, seeming to keep a more upbeat cadence. (The quality of the recording itself is of course different due to it's age)

Salieri, the lonely Owl amongst all the birds on the Chinese wallpaper of the dining-room in the Governor's Mansion in Williamsburg, Virginian.
Obscure, but anyone who has seen it, has looked into the symbols, decorative emblems of a most classical era will understand.
If you haven't done so, you're in for a most delicious trip, or at least a bit of Americana at its best.

コレッリ、ヴィヴァルディの「ラ・フォリア」、そしてヘンデルの「サラバンド」などと比べて、実に堂々として、大がかりな変奏曲です。
このような曲が聞けて、私は幸せです。
ありがとうございました。
