I think it's very intriguing how Abu-Assad obviously wants to show us that there are "collaborators" on both sides. Only a few minutes after Said's monologue on his father's significance in shaping his world view, he portrays two Israelis who are knowingly sending suicide bombers to the destination of their attack. They clearly aren't doing this for ideological reasons, either; the don't even know any Arabic and earlier in the film, it is mentioned that they are "well-paid."

BTW, I am a Jew and a Zionist, and I love this film and respect Abu-Assad. There are some elements of the film that slightly offend me, but it is impossible to avoid harming sensibilities when one covers such a sensitive topic. What matters is that I agree with Abu-Assad's basic premise. Art must consider the human aspect behind all actions, no matter how evil.

I've been wanting to watch this movie for 2 years. It didn't change my perception even a little bit. I've always sympathized with the plight of those Arabs who chose to depart on their own when Israel declared independence and the entire Arab world declared war on the Jewish state, along with their children. Their plight however is Not the fault of Israel. They remain the ONLY refugee group in the world which hasn't been absorbed by their own people. Arabs are to blame for this, not Israel.
I realize there is tension between palestine and Israel, but what are they fighting about? That is the part I struggle with...
Also, I find it funny that the name of the movie is "Paradise Now"... What a message... Go kill yourself, in a populated area surrounded by innocence. Pathetic... Not showing the explosion and carnage of Said's bomb dillutes the message of the film. But overall i thought it was a good piece, I've seen several films and documentaries about suicide bombings but this one did the best job at communicating the story from the bomber's point of view.

I've always thought Palestine was treated unfairly. The rest of the world cannot be sympathetic to Palestinians when they do this because they do not understand the situation. Said says that Israel plays the victim and oppressor. They cannot play the victim without suicide bombings. Their are crimes on both sides to be sure. I hope there will be a strong well spoken Muslim leader that stands for honor pride and defiance of occupation without violence that could rally some global support.
What a movie.... I am seeing this again for a class at my University called Religion and Violence. A theory by a guy named Pape claims that Nationalism, not religion is the driving force behind Suicide Bombings, and I agree with this. While these attacks may have led to concessions in other areas it will not work for Palestine. If Israeli's are willing to move to settlements and die to keep the land than more violence will not convince them to stop.
The term "eye for an eye" was actually by Hammurabi, an ancient Babylonian king who invented it through his code of laws. I don't believe in it because it really doesn't solve anything, and I'm actually a descendant.

This movie was very moving, and made me think too.
So often do people forget that the people on the other side are also human. People who are not so different if you take away religion, race and status, who could have just as easily been friends instead of enemies. We, the people of the Earth need to realize that and stop killing each other. We need to find other ways for reaching peace. If killing continues, it will only lead to more suffering and hate.

I think if you follow the story...that is contrary to the meaning of the film. Killing Israelis will only result in more killing of Palestinians. Killing will always result in more killing. Who can really say what the solution is?

Well, it shows me a different viewpoint, one I've long essentially ignored, so I guess in a sense that is true. But is what it shows false? While most of the film is obviously from the Palestinian viewpoint, the final scene brings home the human toll on both sides if you watch carefully.
Not all the people on that bus were soldiers. And soldiers are people, too. They have wives, mothers, children. This does not make Israel policy correct, humane or sensible. However, continuing to blow each other up is not going to work, either. This movie will have a greater impact on Israel's source of power than all the bombers, combined. The only positive impact of the bombers is that they can be used to show Palestine's situation in this movie.
yeah, nothing is human about taking in the wounded from people who are trying to kill your civilians and treating them in a hospital.

Yes, it is showing the Palestinian side. I do not believe it is making excuses for suicide bombers, but it does give us a deeper look at why. More so than the often reported "40 virgins" story so often quoted in the Western media.
One of the most tragic films I've ever seen. It describes a whole people's desperation, and their struggle with conscience. Very powerfull. I hope it will help people understand the humanity behind even the worst crimes of this conflict.
This film is amazing, totally mind blowing. It does a good job of explaining, not excusing, how people can get to the point where they are willing to kill themselves and others like this. If you liked this movie check out the book called The Attack, by Yasmina Khadra. We need to fix the desperation that causes young men and women to throw themselves away because they don't believe they have any other choice. And we need to be FAIR in the Israeli/palistanian conflict, no more illegal settlements

Not showing the explosion and carnage of Said's bomb dillutes the message of the film. But overall i thought it was a good piece, I've seen several films and documentaries about suicide bombings but this one did the best job at communicating the story from the bomber's point of view.

I've always thought Palestine was treated unfairly. The rest of the world cannot be sympathetic to Palestinians when they do this because they do not understand the situation. Said says that Israel plays the victim and oppressor. They cannot play the victim without suicide bombings. Their are crimes on both sides to be sure. I hope there will be a strong well spoken Muslim leader that stands for honor pride and defiance of occupation without violence that could rally some global support.

What a movie.... I am seeing this again for a class at my University called Religion and Violence. A theory by a guy named Pape claims that Nationalism, not religion is the driving force behind Suicide Bombings, and I agree with this. While these attacks may have led to concessions in other areas it will not work for Palestine. If Israeli's are willing to move to settlements and die to keep the land than more violence will not convince them to stop.

This movie was very moving, and made me think too.
So often do people forget that the people on the other side are also human. People who are not so different if you take away religion, race and status, who could have just as easily been friends instead of enemies. We, the people of the Earth need to realize that and stop killing each other. We need to find other ways for reaching peace. If killing continues, it will only lead to more suffering and hate.

Well, it shows me a different viewpoint, one I've long essentially ignored, so I guess in a sense that is true. But is what it shows false? While most of the film is obviously from the Palestinian viewpoint, the final scene brings home the human toll on both sides if you watch carefully.

Not all the people on that bus were soldiers. And soldiers are people, too. They have wives, mothers, children. This does not make Israel policy correct, humane or sensible. However, continuing to blow each other up is not going to work, either. This movie will have a greater impact on Israel's source of power than all the bombers, combined. The only positive impact of the bombers is that they can be used to show Palestine's situation in this movie.

This film is amazing, totally mind blowing. It does a good job of explaining, not excusing, how people can get to the point where they are willing to kill themselves and others like this. If you liked this movie check out the book called The Attack, by Yasmina Khadra. We need to fix the desperation that causes young men and women to throw themselves away because they don't believe they have any other choice. And we need to be FAIR in the Israeli/palistanian conflict, no more illegal settlements
