Did your concert take place on a ship ? Because the camera moves a lot ...
Mahler said there never two bars the same tempo . He hated indifference . Every note has to be expressive .So I think it's not so easy to play like he imagined .
Heh, that's the whole point: the programaticism there is about dead children! I'm not even kidding, that's what Gustav was envisioning! Pretty messed up, yet awesome!
Aside from that, their tuning does seem a bit off, but it could just be due to the recording...
@kotetsu131 Um, no. It's about animals carrying a hunter to his grave. Not dead children Search for "Moritz von Schwind "The Huntsman's Funeral." It's Mahler's 150th birthday today so I'm running around like crazy with annoying trivia - nothing personal!
It's like a Chagall painting, the broken landscape of Eastern Europe in the early 20th century, the village tree preserved in dreams, "Under the linden tree... I forgot what life's done to me."
Okay, maybe he was just a bit out of tune at parts, though that could easily be blamed on the camera. I would think that even though I don't play the bass, the solo doesn't seem that hard.
It isn't really, but there are a couple shifts in it that can be very hard to land in tune, which is where the difficulty is and where most people fail. If you play it using the traditional fingerings, there's a couple of 2-and-a-half foot shifts in there.
I think this is well played .

The bass is out of tune, but the whole idea of turning Frere Jacques into a funeral march is just hilarious! Way to go Gustave!

The bass solo in the beginning was pretty subpar.

Alot of it is because the sound quality isn't the greatest... It's it's from the mic on the video camera.

No, I meant he wasn't very good.

That's ashame you think so. I was @ the performance and viewed it live. Obviously the video does not give the bass solo it's proper depiction.
