But I haven't even mastered hiragana and katakana yet =( I have most memorized by now, and just go to Kanji a day and type the example definitions of the kanji. If I don't know a hiragana by heart I'd right click it after copying it into word and learn the pronunciation that way. Hiragana Ko こ vs. ni に and wa わ vs. re れwas also a pain. I also type them in simple sentences to make sure that they "belong" to me (i.e., I memorize them).

I have actually been learning Japanese for 2 semesters and i still don't think i know a lot. Japanese is a very complicated language and you learn pieces of the culture with it. Its an amazing language but its not something you can just learn right away. Take your time with it because its not easy. I still want to learn more. thats the thing. i am learning japanese for the soul purpose of translating a few choice anime shows that never made it to america with an english dub (mainly Parappa). the signs in the show are in english but at some point im assuming they were planning on coming to america. therefore learning kanji is irrelevant to me. i mainly just want to develop a vocabulary and good sense of sentence structure in order to just LISTEN and be able to translate what si being said. writing + kanji = irrelevant
