I remember hearing this on Rodney on the Roq back when he was on for four hours on Saturday night and four hours on Sunday night. That was in 1978 and I haven't heard this song since then. Thanks for posting this, I love the main guitar riff.
Over here near Pittsburgh, pretty sure 'Ole Harry "The Wire" Wagner spun this classic on WYEP. Then WXXP "Double X" (R.I.P.) put it into rotation. Going to Pitt Greensburg at the time, we were all thinking: "OK, we guys had to register for the draft. Could this be our Cold War Calling"!! America needs a little more Paranoia, time to start calling the local radio stations, to make a special request. Why? Because, I am so afraid of the Russians. But this song will make things OK.....!
This video was a great offshoot from Velvet UG and the whole pre-industrial scene. See the Happy Monday's and Joy Division/the Manchester Scene that came out a couple of years later. Very Nico/Cale who gives a crap song, They LOVED it at Danceteria and the Pep Lounge.
I remember hearing this on DJ Malibu Sue's '80s Flashback Cafe' weekdays at noon on 92.7 WLIR(until it became an all-Spanish station on January 2004).How I miss those days!
Da Thanks for upgrading this. Back to the good old days of Cold War paranoia. Now instead of Russian spies everywhere we have Russian hackers everywhere and Chinese and Iranian. It is so bad I can't sleep.......at night

Did DJ Rude Boy play this once at Rage, in Baldwin when Hahn was tending bar there? Or was it played at Thrush in Rockville Center by DJ Rob?

So excellent!! I've been looking for this tune for years - has it really been 28 years?!?!? It sounds as good as I remembered it to be.

They've got ships at sea
They've got missiles in the air
Tanks on the border of Europe
And spies everywhere...
Spies...everywhere
Spies...everywhere

..I liked the later version better. The one that they performed it in the clubs in the DC area back in the 80s.
