I know one thing you learned in your high school...to cuss like a sailor on shore leave...very impressive...NOT !!!!!!! Grainy video peppered with profanity...thanks
75% of all tornadoes that occur on the planet Earth occur in the United States. And 75% of *those* tornadoes occur in 4 states. Think about that! As a weather phenomenon, tornadoes basically occur on a DOT on the planet. When was the last time you heard of a tornado ravaging France, Italy, Russia, Mexico, Canada, or North Dakota for that matter? And yet a state like Oklahoma will get 20 in one day! It's crazy.
I remember this day clearly in my mind even tho I live in N. Carolina. I got out of school early on this day && i turned on The Weather Channel && I remember Dr Greg Forbes (the severe weather expert) and Jim Cantore kept saying that Enterprise High School took a direct hit from this tornado and that there were students trapped...it was happening live on Doppler radar....
I keep hearing about the EIGHT people that lost their lives but there was NINE. 8 high school students and an elderly lady that lived on the corner of my street. RIP Mrs. Strickland!
My name is Logan Duncan.I am a senior and I go to Enterprise High School, class of 2011! My class will be the first to graduate from the new school they just built and the schools huge as hell! It took to long to build a school and they aint even getting the soccer stadium up in time for our next soccer season which upsets me cause I've played varsity for EHS since 9th grade. but just so ya'll know they finally built the school. remember the 8! David Logan Duncan signin out
What is now?? 6 Fucking years and the lazy Mother Fuckers have still not built these kids another school.Ofcourse with a corrupt local Govt scamming money from the project and an ultra Corrupt Gov. Maybe the Kids that were in 1st grade when it happened can have a High school
Man i remember this day so vividly i was worried that somethin wud happen my aunt and cuzins. I was just roaming the hallways of Elba High School till i hurd the siren and the bell rang i just ran back to my first block class
Yeah, it definitely wasn't funny. I went to Dothan High School, 20 minutes away. We lost 8 of our friends that day. It was a serious tragedy. I can't believe it's been almost 3 years.
Yeah that whole day was scary, I live in Dothan too, I remeber getting off school listening to the radio and someone called in saying there was a tornado touchdown near Enterprise High School.
Worst day of my life. i lost my bestfriend peter dunn(pj). I tried calln a thousand times, and found out the next day. i had never went to sleep, and the next day i took a long nap, one of the most relaxing 2. the phone had ring and my brother told me the news.
It formed over my house, and went on to the High School. All 8 are in my prayers. Especially Sean Vidensik. I know him and I saw his sister thae moday before the tornado.
I know Sean, but we aren't really friends. I still feel sorry for him, and everyone else who lost all their belongings, and loved ones. I wasn't in Enterprise for one year and this happens. I just wish there was a good reason to say why this happened.
i miss u Jamie ur in my prayers i cant belive ur gone it must be sad to see 8 young bodies lieing there dead no movemet the prom up soon so rachael ray and buddies helped thx for the support
It missed my house by exactly a block - my kids were in school but my wife heard the weather report and got them home. My wife, 3 kids,2 cats, 2 dogs, 3 snakes, and 2 hermit crabs were in the bathtub with a mattress over there heads when it struck the school. I was in Tennessee on business but came back to Enterprise the next day. It was another 24 hours until I could get back in my house because of the road blocks. Never forget out citizens who perished on that day....
i live in alabama umm huston county to be exact and i remeber like when we had bad weather on wednessday? i think he sad that we had a quick tornado very close to the school but it was so quick the sirins dident go off. and he also sad one time a tornado went throught enterprize and picked up his sons truck and raped it around one of them stadioum light poled

that makes mewant to cry so hard! and when i was at school that day out in the hall i almost cried and all i was thinking about was my cousins because i was afraid they were going to pass away.but there are somethings in life you can't help or fix once they happen and what you can do is help when they are with you and teasure them while you can.....=(
my sister's best friend lived there in enterprise and died in the tornado. she was Katy Strunk.(Not my sister the girl that died.) and my cousins live EXTREMELY close to where that happened. the thing with katy was that her mom was about to go eat lunch with her and theydidn't know the tornado had started and Katy had to go with herclass in the gym (she didn't know what was going on) and her mom went to go get the lunch and when the mom came back with the lunch Katy got crushed by a brick wall.
I'm from southeast Alabama and I believe at my high school at the time it hit EHS we were either just getting in the halls or just getting up, but we were all really shocked the next day to learn how not far away it was when it hit them. It was a big deal. My mom thinks she recognized one of the girls as one of her regular customers. I'm fortunate to have never been hurt in a storm here, but my heart goes out to all that are.
I'm living in Eneterprise again for the second time. I hate it. However, the town didn't deserve a tornado. I saw the school for the first time today. It's fucked!
Yeh, still bad though ;[ I've actualy been studying tornados for 1year now and im only 14, planning on being a Storm chaser or storm researcher when im older ;]
the footage doesn't show the detail that I could see from there. From my perspective you could see huge chunks of debris and wood flying all throughout the tornado. It is an understatement.
I didn't get hurt, but I was living on Dixie Drive when it happened and I had to move out and there where people trapped in their houses and I was actually sick from school that day so it was pretty much the worst day of my life! Shit, that thing is huge. I hadn't realized it was so big. I'm a tornado-phile but I hate hearing about such horrible aftermaths. My thoughts and prayers are with all who were affected.
Obviously I take it that you're assigned to Ft. Rucker. What was their response to the event? I thought I saw a couple of FLAT IRON Huey's at the school grounds immediately afterwards
this was a very dangerous wedge tornado. you were wise to not chade this one, the upper half of wedge tornadoes dispatch an incredible amount of debris. Looking at more and more pictures and video, the rating of EF-3 is accurate. I do think there will be isolated pockets of EF-4 damage, but overall. This is what a very strong EF-3 is capable of. I am so sorry this happened to you all. I live in Oklahoma, and we are way too familiar with this kinda thing. But for the tornado to hit the high school-thats horrible. I Pray that Enterprise and all the areas hit recently to a fast and speedy recovery-and comfort those who lost loved ones and property in these storms. I think they should set up an account to accept donations for this.
wow I live a couple hours north of there and it's really really amazing that there was a horrific tornadeo and all we got was rain, this is such a sad sad time
Just incredible. I live about 3 hours to the north and it's just sad. I have a big interest in weather and as I watched that storm yesterday it was obvious there was a large tornado. :(
My heart goes out to all in Enterprise, Alabama on this horrific tornado. I was in a tornado myself a few years ago in New Jersey...that's right even in NJ we get tornadoes too.
yeah uhh...im in middle school at dauphin which is 1/2 a mile away from the high school. i walked from dauphin to the high school b4, which is about 5 minutes
Im from the UK and this unfortunte event was on the news today and I really thought about everyone who was involved. My sympathy and saddness goes to the families of those kids who died when the roof caved in at the school, and I understand a old woman was killed in her home down the road as well. We were informed regularly of the latest by one of the ABC correspondents as he was linked up to the BBC News channel in London. RIP. Thank you for the video.
Amazing video. A very sad day for Enterprise and the other areas affected. Thank you very much for uploading it. Video of tornadoes from the south are rare. I have put together a DVD of over 30 eastern tornado videos called "Eastern Fury" at harkphoto dot com. The DVD shows that large and dangerous tornadoes are possible through the southeast and the threat of severe weather should be taken seriously.
Hey Bill, Thanks for the comment. I'm from the north and didn't know how to react to such situation without basements! My first instinct was to pull off to the side of the road and get an idea of what direction the tornado was going and take cover in a ditch from there. Cont..
As you see in the video the storm turns away from me. Although you can not see the the debris in the video there were objects flying as large as contruction wood. I believe much of the traffic you see in the video were family of loved ones at the highschool. Much of Enterprise is Employed and populated by Fort Rucker. Cont...
I do know a curfew was issued and it was wise to be off the streets. Reports of panic stricken people driving 80mph down that same road trying to get to the school. Truely a sad day for everyone. Thanks again. John
Thank you John for replying and I'm glad that you had good road sense whilst recording this, as I can only imagine what it must be like in that situation.
Thank you Bill for posting, I have watched your video clips and you got some of the best footage around, I was wondering if you're aware if there were any chasers out on the road, in around Southern Alabama?
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that has been affected by this disaster.
There were a few storm chasers in Alabama but nobody was able to obtain any decent footage. The storms were moving very fast in areas with winding roads and poor visibility. Many chasers chose not to chase or waited in specific areas rather than trying to track these storms.

So far, this is the only video footage of this tornado that I'm aware of, unless there were stormchasers in the area at the time.
I'm saddened to hear of any fatalities, I just hope that those who have survived can rebuild their lives and come out stronger than before.
Thank you for uploading this, Top rating.
