Faster ish liveaboard??? Living on a racing boat is an oxymoron. Racing sailboats are usually stripped down since lighter is faster...cruising boats/liveaboard sailboats are loaded down with creature comforts. Sailing single handed is a lot easier than racing a liveaboard boat. And don't forget, if you crash or sink, you've just lost your house and possessions.
Most sailboats under 45 ft can be rigged for single handed sailing, and most boats can be raced. As far as what is fast....everyone has a different opinion on that...
Great intro. I am currently looking for a sailboat and plan to live aboard in Chicago. (yes, even in the winter). I need the economy to stabilze, or I need to find a better job, then I am the liveaboard crowd!
That is wonderful. I think the hardest thing is getting use to "Something comes on to the boat then something must go off". I went from a 4 bedroom home to a 30' Newport and have been happy for 13 years. You will love it and it will be all second nature after a while. I would love to hear about your experiences....:)
Good points. Especially about the downsizing thing. The wife and I are in the middle of our liveaboard plans, and we have sold almost everything that is non-essential. Our home - gone. Our furnishings - gone. Our storage with all memories - pictures taken and gone.
We could leave on the 36 footer we have now, but we still need to prepare a bit.

I would think you would have to be pretty wealthy to live and travel the globe on a powerboat, if you could travel the world.
I can see it on a sailboat.
