never shut the damper. white tarps are for painters. how do you keep the tarps from getting black? you should tarp the fireplace and have your vaccuum runnin while your sweeping it. and lets be honest.... that chimney wasnt dirty. you do know what your talking about but your methods and gear scare me
I have been a chimney since 1972 and through many years of experience I found it best to leave the damper open cause some chimneys with mass creosote build up will fill up behind the damper "smoke shelf " to where it will block the damper from opening and some dampers are non removable which creates a pain in cleaning! always mask of the opening of the system before sweeping
@SirgigglezTV It is not easy but like anything else the more you do it the easier it gets. Its a dirty job. The pay is ok but I'm just starting out so once you have more experience you get paid better. Also you need to have 0 issues with heights.
How exactly do you push something with a rope? Half the cleaning job is pushing, the other half is pulling. Thus the up-and-down motion of the brush in the tile as it cleans. The brush has a tight fit.
Different damper plates are held in by different methods. Many can't be removed without breaking the plate or the housing. Some are held in with cotter pins, still others have tabs that rest into recesses and can just be lifted out.

That crack through the fire place looks very nasty. I would get a structural engineer to check it out.

Strange way of cleaning a chimney. Why not use a rope instead of that "stick/pole" you have to screw together? ;)

@dm10901234 Use a weight below the brush so it will pull the brush down the chimney. Use the rope to pull it back up.

how are you gonna push something on the end of a rope down a chimney?

usually a cotter pin holds the damper in place, or it just lifts out, camera is little over a grand
lovejoyb1983 2 years ago
i got a couple questions first how did you remove the damper without breaking or cutting it out? 2 how much was that camera?
