Her argument being that an allowance is an allowance, not expenses, and it's up to the MP to spend it on whatever they want. She tried to turn the tables & hassle the BBC interviewer about her (the interviewer's) salary) & is worried that all this may drive some MPs to suicide. Socialism and totalitarianism are mutually connected. They both require a massive expansion of the state to enforce their ridiculous grand utopian schemes, and they bully anyone who disagrees with them. Bevan is a prime example of this. He slandered and insulted anybody who disagreed with the NHS, so he'd hate me. And if he treated me like he treated some of his political opponents, he'd be in an NHS bed for the rest of his life. He really was a vile piece of shit.

Socialism doesn't have to be driven by the state. It's a complex movement where some forms even advocate realising their ideals from the combination of trades through unions and guilds, forming a power base away from the state and a democratic, fairer life for those who lose out due to the inevitable corruption of capitalist society. In some cases force has been used to push through policy, but there is no mutual connection.

Err... well if not Bevan, then the Labour government did. Doctors were on the front line delivering the medications that existed, but it is was only through the government that those services could actually reach the people most susceptible to such diseases as TB in the first place. The fact is that many people without adequate protection in their jobs not only couldn't afford to get treatment but couldn't risk not going to work even if ill. Having the NHS drastically improved life expectency.

It would have happened regardless of the NHS. As society becomes more technologically advanced, illnesses become less frequent. We should abolish the NHS now, and give the money saved back in tax cuts. We should also raise the personal allowance to £18,000, thus talking around 10,000,000 out of tax altogether. This will create a market for healthcare, and in the long run, it will provide better and cheaper healthcare, because competition brings out the best in people and business.

The problem with your argument is that it's based on the idea that competition brings out the best in people. In other words you are supporting the philosophical notion that human beings are naturally selfish. So all I have to do to disagree is not believe that humans are naturally selfish. Since Insurance companies will only judge more vulnerable people as higher risk, those most in need will get the worst deal in the free market. We may be fine, but I bet you others will get a pretty raw deal.

Also, I assume because you reference insurance companies that you believe America has a free market health system. It dosen't. It is run by governments and corporations. In a free market, the state leaves business alone. No deals. America = corporatism

Human selfishness in some form or other has been supposedly proven, although what form this takes (i.e. altruistic individualism or otherwise) is still up for debate. However, that still doesn't disprove socialism as an ideology as it accepts that people are selfish, but that they have the potential not to be governed by those desires in a suitable society.

As for the insurance industry, my comments were based on the business model, as it operates worldwide, not just in the instance of the USA.

I am not quite sure how you can find a system that promotes complete equality and extensive democratisation in the workplace as abhorrent, but all the same, since we reside in different parts of the political spectrum i'm willing to accept that your views have a logical backing.

I have to agree, capitalism in its purest form would be an ideal if it worked, but I feel that it cannot provide all necessary services. Surely you must at least see the merit of state funded education?
