I always thought US Marines would be prohibited from this kind of police action on US soil.  That's why they have National Guard.

@JerryKitich well I grew up in Baltimore, and during the riots in 1968 they called in the 82nd Airborne, and they are the Army, reg. I was about 12 but I remember that vividly. If they call Marshall law they can. Look up the history on some of the 60s riots, I am almost certain they did. They also had orders to shoot to kill, looters, it was bad.
