  • whats that weird spiral she does at 2:54? ive tried it but it feels like my shoulder is dislocating :S

  • it'a biellmen spiral, and Caroline shows a variation of holding the leg instead of the blades. this position needs great flexibility and strength of muscles

  • it's a kerrigan spiral.

  • she is a future world champ!!!!!!

  • haa! 4:12 random phone ringing

  • How did she place?

  • Oh ~! Her flexibility is excellent.

  • The USA ladies need to skate faster and need to land more triple triple combo jumps.

  • She has worked through her growth spurt this year, seems to be skating with greater speed and her jumps are getting better and better! Who cares about the extended leg? Sarah Hughes did it and won the Olympics, why can't she? Now that she seems to be completing her rotations better why? You don't get deductions for it as far as I know....

  • una verdadera promesa para el patinaje americano!

  • Zhang should have got the bronze medal. How impudent ASADA is!!!!

  • OMG, Caroline is da bomb! I won't say bad things about other skaters anymore, but I will have to say that Caroline kick all of their butts! If she was sent to the Worlds instead, I'd pay top dollar to go to the ladies' event. Unfortunately, now I have to make my decision between Ladies' or Dance.

  • Caroline definitely has the potential to become one of the world's and certainly one of the U.S.'s most artistic, expressive skaters. She has gorgeous line, remarkable stretch & suppleness and the finest layback position I have ever seen (her free leg is extended straight back from the hip, not the knee, her toes are pointed and her foot is perfectly parallel to the ice).

She has an introspective and poignant, slightly melancholy sense on the ice that to me makes her quite touching to watch.

  • I don't know if it's just me or was she skating a little faster than usual? I mean, compared to the others she's still a slow skater, but she's still beautiful to watch. She should have placed higher considering Mao and Yu-Na both fell.

  • hey referees!! you are fired:P

  • i agree with a lot of comments here, Caroline deserved bronze medal.

it's just a big shame that the true sportsmanship is not approved anymore

  • If I correctly judge this 4CC,

    1. Yu-na Kim

    2. Joannie Rochette

    3. Caroline Zhang

  • heh if they allow two first place ppl i wud put yu na kim and mao asada.

  • I so, so agree with you. Caroline DESERVED the bronze. :p

  • i do feel that Caroline was unfairly marked as downgraded. Her spirals are so elegant and I feel that she's getting to be a whole lot better than Mao's who spirals are good, but I still like Mao's extension though. I also feel that the judges really need to be more flexible and less rigid on Caroline who I feel, should be marked highly for her beautiful skating. Also I do like Caroline's jump and other elements which makes her even more interesting than anyone else I've seen on you tube.

  • Her spirals remind me of Sasha Cohen's.

However, she needs to get rid of that unsightly habit where she lifts her leg too high before a jump.

  • I do agree with you. A whole lot of similarities of Sasha comes through Caroline. And the same can be shown of grace.

  • I agree with you also. The thing is - there will never be another Sasha Cohen. ♥

  • Thank God, who wants to see someone like her falling all the damn time????

  • weird judgement...

Caroline deserve to have bronze medal.

  • it makes me mad that shes not going to worlds in her home town!!! especially when at this competition she beat the other two girls who are going to worlds...it not fair!! :(

  • yeah, i just looked at whos going to worlds and because of her performance at euros kiira korpi was bumped off the world team for susanna poykio, even thought kiira is national champ. dont you wish the american team would switch alissa for caroline, or rachael for ashley?

  • I really hope she can go to worlds this year.

But I want even more for her to go to Olympics 2010.

  • SEND THAT WOMAN TO THE OLYMPICS!

  • Who knows what she said at the end?

  • "Who knows what she said at the end?"

She said "...I don't get to play tomorrow"

  • Caroline should have won the bronze medal.

She was the victim at this event coz japanese sponsors always want a japanese skater to stand on the podium.

It should be Mao for japanese.

If you check out the detail results of ISU homepage Mao was protected by some sneaky judges.

Even though Mao fell and did not complete her triple jumps she got +1.

    Is it possible???LOL

Imagine how Mao gets the points if she does not fall.

  • to me... she deserved to in mao asada and go to the podium.

  • Funny how the placement of the American ladies ehre is the opposite of Nationals. Caroline was third and here she's the top American, while the National Champion ended up placing the lowest of the Americans

  • I totally agree that Caroline is not ready to lead the world, but I don't see any better candidate from the States. Throughout the past few seasons, I can only think of one girl who is as consistent as her from the US, that's Rachael Flatt. But Rachael gets her jumps downgraded just as much as Caroline. Not only that, her form is terrible and her spins and spirals are sub-par.

  • At the rate that the US ladies' are progressing, I really wish that Michelle Kwan (will be 29) and Sasha Cohen (will be 25) will make a comeback just to salvage this pathetic excuse for a senior ladies' team, just for the Olympics, so that we don't get laughed out of the building. If not, please send the right person to represent our nation i.e. Caroline Zhang

  • It's shameful for Czisny to take that National title home, knowing that she only did 3 clean triples and fell in a program with only 5 triples planned. It's a disgrace that she gets to go to the World Championships when we know that she never does well anyway and there are better options (Zhang) sitting at home. There goes the US Ladies' 2nd berth to the Olympics and 2010 WC!

  • Your 100% right about Ms. Czisny it's scary to think that for the first time since 1994 that the United States women will only earn 2 spots and places like Finland will get 3 that's crazy Caroline is not ready for the big time she is not anywhere near being mature enough to lead the world in skating!

  • Finland only has 2. Japan is the only countrie that has earned three spots.

  • But most likely will end up with 3 in the Olympics because they have all been skating very strongly this year. Laura Lepisto won Europeans.

  • By now, i am used to seeing Caroline not getting the score she should be getting.

If we look at just what happened at National, Rachael and Alyssa placed 7th and 9th here and they were the 2nd and national champion, respectively. See how judges are setting up who they want to win?

  • Absolutely freakin' gorgeous. How did she did not get on the podium?! *off to watch the others*

  • I agree with you Asbelow.

She was better than Mao Asada...

  • Her performance was better than Asada

  • wow, that was a beautiful performnce the best i've seen from her..she would fare much better at worlds than czisny, who can't seem to perform under pressure.

  • i thouth she was going to worlds?

  • the usa has only 2 slots for worlds this year because of the performance of meissner, bebe liang and ashley wagner last year. she is only the first alternate since she was third to alissa and flatt in nationals this year.

maybe if she performed better in the isu grand prix events, and czisny did not do well, she should have been favored in the last nationals (and not czisny)..

  • Its too bad she isn't on the world team. Its gonna be difficult for the U.S to qualify 3 ladies spots to next year's Olympics. Caroline is super consistent and if she competed at worlds this year, you probably could have counted on her to deliver.

  • her spin is pretty nice!

  • she skates with much more speed

  • are they downgraded?

  • Comment removed

  • if you don't care then why bother comment, you are such a troll! and you should stop lying. Caroline's jumps are just fine. Her 3-3 got downgraded, which is quite normal these days under the new strict rule. Yu-Na Kim is the one and only skater who constantly gets ratified 3-3 jumps. All other skaters get downgraded all the time. Actually, Caroline has more ratified 3-3 jumps than Miki Ando in the last two seasons.

  • dont watch if u dont like her

  • I'll do what I please!

  • amazing! except for her jumps which are needed to be improved, all of her movements are really truly works of arts!!! her signature pearl is definitely a 5+ level

the one and only! zhang is a gem!

  • She deserved to Bronze Medal.

Her performance was better than Asada

    Mao.

  • 2010 Winter Olympics will be interesting!

  • She is so beautiful. I woke up at 4am to watch this live from the UK and it was lovely.

  • Nice to see Caroline all smiles!

  • 어쩜저렇게 장할까 너무좋아

  • Anyone know why she went back to last year's program?

  • i think its because last years program fits her better.

  • I just don't think that her Sleeping Beauty program was working for her. It didn't completely suit her and she never looked fully comfortable skating it.

This was a beautiful performance. She had the highest TES scores in the LP (over 60). Just think of what they would have been had she fully rotated the 3T in the 3F/3T combo and had more speed into the axel.

Wish she was the one going to Worlds instead of the 7th and 9th place finishers, where we most likely have no shot at 3 spots.

  • i love the victory hand move she made at the end =D

  • Wow! Incredible skate! Can't wait to see how her skating develops over the next few years.

  • You can totally see her improvements in this programme. Little tweaks here and there, she can become on of the bests! as youariston said she will be a gold medal contender in 2010

  • She is definitely making her presence known. She has shown amazing improvement, and I believe she will be a gold medal contender in 2010!

  • beautiful. so much better than nationals. She skated with emotion. That smile after the last jump combonation is priceless.

  • i just watched this on tv, awesome job caroline.
